So as many of you will know, following on from the whole selfie phenomenon, Galen volunteered to do her own pose to raise money (and awareness) for research into cancer. (You can find the original thread HERE

That got us thinking, and in consultation with Galen we have come up with the idea of doing our very own Calendar Girls style calendar. To raise money (and we are happy for people to decide which charity). To raise awareness (ditto). And also to turn on its head the idea that older people (and one person we spoke to who is working to get "older" people online is targetting those above 45...) cannot be internet savvy and up to speed with the latest technology.

So - classic poses with any bits that need hiding (smile) hidden not with the obvious cakes and flowers but with smart phones, lap tops, tablets, e readers etc.

Galen has laid claim to the Rokeby Venus with a Mac Air instead of a mirror. Now all we need is 11 other gransnetters to volunteer too (groups welcome!)

There will be nothing on show that you don't want on show. Logistics are being logisticised (is that a word?!) so do pick a pose and join the fun...

I think men should be included. Why should they be let off the hook miss out on a life changing experience.

My vote for a charity goes to Age UK. We are at a stage in our lives where their help and advice is often called upon. Either that or an Alzheimers charity.

The Christine Keeler one done in black/white phoenix?
Well, you would say that, wouldn't you? tee-hee.

rosesarered Thu 03-Apr-14 20:47:52

phoenix does it have to be technology to cover the bits? It may be fitting for you to be holding a lamb? also one of those beribboned shepherdess crook thingies.Galen could have a bow and arrow, I'm thinking an outdoorsy theme here.

rosesarered Thu 03-Apr-14 20:52:44

All right, I know it has to be technology, just having a bit of fun here,I still don't see that it has to be nudes though, any famous paintings of women would do, just add the mobile phone, iPod, tablet, Kindle etc.The Mona Lisa looking enigmatically at her texts?Girl with a pearl ear-ring and headphones? You get the idea.

I'm all of a confuddled doo dah now!

roses I'm especially confuddled by ^The Christine Keeler one done in black/white phoenix?
Well, you would say that, wouldn't you? tee-hee.^ ????

Yours with much love, confused of Devon! smile

PS Even more puzzled by getting a PM from a lovely sounding group of ladies who seem to think that I'm organising the thing!

*LADIES! KNOW YOUR LIMITS"

No prize, but a gold star and a big red tick to the first persons that names the source AND who said it!

bikergran Thu 03-Apr-14 22:25:57

Soo.....I sit on my motorcycle legs akimbo grin or sidesaddle grin
(can I wear my helmet to mask my identity) lol..

Ana Thu 03-Apr-14 22:32:56

"He would, wouldn't he?" is what Mandy Rice-Davies said during the trial of Stephen Ward in the aftermath of the Profumo affair when Lord Astor denied living off immoral earnings (she was an associate of Christine Keeler). Probably a bit before your time, phoenix, youngster that you are! wink

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 03-Apr-14 22:36:05

Oh! Well done Ana.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 03-Apr-14 22:42:29

women, know your limits

Anne58 Fri 04-Apr-14 00:11:34

Ana I do know that phrase, in fact i used it only recently in response to the letter I got in response to my complaint about a particular person on our local gov. council tax department. "Miss Holmes denies using the word "ludicrous" me: well, she would say that wouldn't she, being the sort of person that probably regrets being born too late to have served the Fuhrer"

Ok, perhaps I didn't actually say the last bit.....

Anne58 Fri 04-Apr-14 00:12:43

Spot on jingl a gold star and a big red tick winging their way to you!

Galen Fri 04-Apr-14 00:33:31

Only people willing to participate are eligible to vote on the charity.
I think you would all agree that's fair.
My list is only suggestions

Lona Fri 04-Apr-14 08:00:39

Galen Shouldn't the people doing the donating have a say about which charities are chosen to benefit?

Sandy217 Fri 04-Apr-14 09:09:26

Best conversation I've read for ages - thanks all! grin

DebnCreme Fri 04-Apr-14 09:20:16

Oh my! I thought this was a wind up, but I reckon it's getting serious. I would be prepared to expose a naked ear with bluetooth earpiece, but that is as far as I would go, sorry blush

Iam64 Fri 04-Apr-14 09:46:50

I've only just read this. If it happens, my vote for charity would be Age Concern. I don't have the technology or skills to take a photograph. Would it be "organised"

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 04-Apr-14 09:58:42

Might show Gransnet up in a better light if the charity was something less old people centred. Don't want anyone thinking we are selfish do we?

Anne58 Fri 04-Apr-14 10:15:32

Sorry Galen but I'm sniggering at this:

I've had a pm from a male member

grin
Yes, childish of me, I will stand in the corner blush

GilMaybe100 Fri 04-Apr-14 10:24:38

Dreadful idea! What price half a century of feminism working to raise awareness of the objectification of women in images. Fine Art as well as porn and page 3. The Calender Girls stunt only appealed to people who were unaware of this. Stupid pictures do not cure cancer - just give the money. angry

Ana Fri 04-Apr-14 10:26:52

Not sure why you were confused by roses' reference then, phoenix! confused Still, never mind...

merlotgran Fri 04-Apr-14 10:28:50

jingle, Would a young people's forum vote for Age UK? I very much doubt it. Do we need to be shown in a better light? What's wrong with us? confused

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 04-Apr-14 10:32:45

As the site is for grandparents, I think I you would have to have at least a couple of men in it.

Phoenix tee hee

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 04-Apr-14 10:34:59

What does it matter what a young people's forum would or would not do?

I would suggest something like WaterAid. Or UNICEF.

Anne58 Fri 04-Apr-14 10:36:20

Gawd knows Ana I was probably trying to do too many things at once and my brain short circuited!
