New site design being tested!

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 04-Aug-17 12:19:06

We're VERY excited to announce that we are finally testing out a new site design! We've been working really hard to make sure it's easier to user and looks neater than the current format.

It is a test though and it may take a day or two to get used to. Apologies in advance for any teething problems - hopefully they'll be minimal. If you have any major problems logging in or you can't access certain things please post on this thread or email us at contactus. We'd love to have your thoughts. smile

Lara, I'd love too but I have no idea how to do a screen shot blush

Just to confirm my posts are highlighted in blue on mobile but not desktop.

ninathenana Fri 04-Aug-17 17:29:45

Yours are green on desktop and pink on mobile

Cherrytree59 Fri 04-Aug-17 17:34:37

Sorry
I don't like the grey I found the green background on mobile site (which I use) easier to read than the pale grey

NanTheWiser Fri 04-Aug-17 17:48:46

I don't like the font either - far too fussy and twee, and old-fashioned!

I prefer Mumsnet layout, with threads labelled "Started by" and "Latest", which gives an idea of the time-span of a thread. I would also like to see OP's posts highlighted (I notice only the opening post is highlighted but not the following posts in the new version), and my own in a different colour, which is not the case on the desk-top site at the moment.

Sometimes on a long thread I just want to skim-read and find the OP's posts, but that's not easy to do unless they are highlighted.

Not bothered by an edit button (MN doesn't have one), and I always preview before posting.

I'll probably get used to it, but at present I don't like it, sorry.

BlueBelle Fri 04-Aug-17 17:57:54

Where do you guys get blue and green posts mine are all white. Except admin which is green

BlueBelle Fri 04-Aug-17 17:58:52

Also my font just and ordinary one not old fashioned or fussy why am I seeing different to you lot

Ana Fri 04-Aug-17 18:01:02

I'd like to see examples of what fonts others deem to be non-old-fashioned and fussy.

Claudiaclaws Fri 04-Aug-17 18:03:11

I think it is a shame that you didn't take this opportunity to change the colour of a thread once you had clicked on it.
Sometimes one forgets one has already read it, it is so much easier to see if the colour is different.
It does this on Mumsnet.

Any font sans serif looks more modern and less fussy. Don' t see how I can show examples here but suggest googling font styles and you'll see lots of clear and up-to-date styles.

Luckygirl Fri 04-Aug-17 18:09:43

I hate serif fonts! - too fussy

joannapiano Fri 04-Aug-17 18:13:57

The logo still seems a bit old-fashioned.

Alima Fri 04-Aug-17 18:14:19

Blue Belle I get the same colours as you, or no colour, is it because you are using an iPad? Looking at the mobile version from an iPad and everything is so much clearer. With any luck HQ will improve on what it is now.

Not keen on the new logo, as old fashioned as the last one.

Jaycee55 Fri 04-Aug-17 18:14:21

I like it! I use the desktop site on my tablet and find it easier to read now, it's clearer and quicker to navigate.

dustyangel Fri 04-Aug-17 18:22:46

I absolutely agree with everything M0nica said. I find it very difficult to focus on and have had to make an effort to read to the end in order to comment.

Alima Fri 04-Aug-17 18:33:12

There are customise buttons for certain options. Could these be added to so that we could choose our own font/size and colours? This new wishy-washy colour scheme is simply not clear enough. (Interesting to know that the font size can be adjusted via a control button. There isn't a control button on an iPad).

mcem Fri 04-Aug-17 18:39:34

Just realised. The thread heading 'New site design being tested!' is a good example of a sans serif font. Why can't we have more of that and less of the old Times Roman type of style?

kittylester Fri 04-Aug-17 18:40:32

I have said, quite a few times, that I would like to know who started a thread. I think you are ignoring me!! grin

Lona Fri 04-Aug-17 18:42:19

I use the mobile site all the time and I don't think it looks much different. However the logo is just the banner at the top, no people. They are there at the bottom though.
I really like the way Mnet highlights the OP and then any additional OP posts, it's much easier to follow.
Can we have that please? ?

POGS Fri 04-Aug-17 18:47:31

Sorry but I don't like it.

My problem is with the colour .

It has no definition between posts other than the poster name as it is so wishy washy.

I do have PVD (posterior vitreous detachment) of the eye which causes me to have a minor issue with vision but I don't think that's the problem but genuinely find 'the flow' of reading posts now irritating.

Kittye Fri 04-Aug-17 18:51:49

Sorry I don't like it either. The old way was easier to read

TriciaF Fri 04-Aug-17 18:58:01

But why the need to change?
Especially when our main gripe - lack of an edit button - has been ignored.

POGS Fri 04-Aug-17 19:02:24

Heck

I have noticed long posts take up the whole screen on my tablet and some because of the print size.

Having to keep scrolling just to read/get through a thread.

Surely if a poster requires a bigger print, for whatever reason, they would set their tablet to their own personal required font size.

Sorry to be negative but I genuinely do not see the point or what this is supposed to achieve GNHQ.

Cherrytree59 Fri 04-Aug-17 19:09:09

Like the gransnet logo at bottom of screen with the 3 generations.

But maybe one should be a Grandad.
Or a Gran and Grandad with grandchildren ( and not just a GD)

Cherrytree59 Fri 04-Aug-17 19:17:56

Help ma Bob

Why is there no last (page) on soop's kitchen
Just first, pre and next??
