Are you a longtime lurker? Love reading our threads but have never actually posted yourself? Then this is the week for you!

Simply say hello here, or post on one of our special lurkers’ week threads (which will all be listed here over the course of the week) and you could win one of our special prizes just for joining the fun.

What are the prizes, you ask? WELL <drumroll> we have an assortment of glorious goodies, from a limited-edition collection from Look Fabulous Forever, to a £50 voucher from the gorgeous jewellery retailer Merci Maman, from brilliant board games from John Adams to champagne glasses from Prezzybox and a year's supply of ebooks from Boldwood Books - and more! (Did we mention the money-can’t-buy, limited-edition Gransnet tea towels?!)

Posting is quick and easy - but if you have any questions, head over to our handy ‘getting started’ guide. This week we will also be running tips on how to get the most out of the site - and if you can't yet tell your DIL from your SIL, here's a handy guide to Gransnet acronyms.

Regular posters, fear not...as if we would leave you out of the fun. Seasoned gransnetters who extend the hand of friendship to newbies will also have their names put in the hat, just for being lovely people.

So welcome all. Don't be shy! Do post!

Say hello. Tell us what you like about Gransnet and join our warm and wonderful community. Happy posting!

GNHQ

I’m a lurker and have been for some time but never posted any thing to shy lol

Glosgran Mon 09-Mar-20 14:13:22

I login most days to 'lurk' following the links that come in the emails and have occasionally posted if I think I have a valid contribution to make.

GrannyMary1 Mon 09-Mar-20 14:13:33

Hi. I’m a bit of a lurker. I don’t normally post although I do comment if I agree/disagree strongly with a particular comment. I love the advice sections that gransnet have about health, and issues with daughters in law or being long distance grandparents. I joined in anticipation of being a granny and have now a gorgeous little granddaughter. I visit the site every day when the email comes in. I love this site.

Minerva Mon 09-Mar-20 14:14:46

I lurked for a long time then asked for help with a problem and received so many kindly replies that I have dared to comment a good few times since,

Lin663 Mon 09-Mar-20 14:23:24

Brilliant idea...I am somewhere between a lurker and a poster...I read many more than I comment on!

Great idea! Welcome to all new Grans posting for the first time.

Loujoamk Mon 09-Mar-20 14:33:49

I lurk too - every day - I look forward to seeing the topics. I have posted a couple of times but I am hesitant to do this as some members can be a little ‘ sharp’ in their replies at times. Absolutely fine with different opinions but I think we should always be supportive ie. be kind !!!

Sourcerer48 Mon 09-Mar-20 14:35:31

Me neither, kind of feel like I'm writing to myself.
Also have to say I find it a bit clichy, they all seem to know each other.

HHBBNN54 Mon 09-Mar-20 14:35:51

I love reading the threads on gransnet but have never been brave enough to post anything.

knickas63 Mon 09-Mar-20 14:43:54

I lurk more than post. Always a bit nervous of voicing my opinion and nearly always regret it when I do. Mid 50's, Grandmother of 5, Mother of 3, Full time work and completely exhausted most of the time. WI member and I love crafts. Married for 36 years this year - together for 40.

pollyolly Mon 09-Mar-20 14:44:56

I am a lurker most days, surprising what people ask or tell, sometimes good tips. Competitions seem to be won regularly by the same grans. Is this just good luck and are the winners chosen at random? I enter most of them but have not won a sausageenvy

Marydoll Mon 09-Mar-20 14:45:33

We all seem to know each other, because we took the plunge and posted, despite being nervous ourselves.
It's only by posting, people get to recognise you. How do you think we all started out? No-one was more nervous than me.
I've had a lot of support on here and many laughs.

Try posting on one of the gentle threads, like Good Morning or Soops Kitchen, you won't be ignored.

Holidayenthusiast Mon 09-Mar-20 14:45:56

I’m a bit of a lurker too. I have posted a couple of times but I mainly use the site for things like book recommendations and I love the competitions.

monk08 Mon 09-Mar-20 14:47:24

Love reading the morning thread and soops kitchen regularly but dont post. Occasionally read some of the other posts depending on the topic so definitely a lurkersmile.

TrendyNannie6 Mon 09-Mar-20 14:59:49

What a kind think to do, that’s great and you have a chance to win lovely prices

Polly99 Mon 09-Mar-20 15:00:22

I am an occasional poster but mainly a lurker. I love the humour on some threads and the good advice. Quite shy in real life so sometimes feel awkward about joining in. Just looking after 10 month old dgd today she is such a joy. I read gransnet every day and look forward to certain posters who come across as kind and generous.smile

Gransnetters

Hello to the lurkers, the sometime shirkers, the caring kind ones, the oh-so prolific ones, the cross ones, the who's-the-boss ones, the stitchers, the Kitcheners, the name changers, the game changers, the near ones, the far ones, and everyone in between. smile

GreenGran78 Mon 09-Mar-20 15:08:38

Hello to all the Newbies. There are so many of you that we need a collective name for a large group of lurkers. Any ideas?
Please don't be shy about posting replies, or new posts. All are welcome on here

Seakay Mon 09-Mar-20 15:15:23

what a lovely idea! I have posted occasionally but mostly lurk as I only come on via my laptop

Juno56 Mon 09-Mar-20 15:19:43

I am mainly a lurker but I have posted a few times so am not eligible for this draw. I would like to say though (even though I am not an 'old timer' either) it is great to see so many new names, welcome. X

Nanoo15 Mon 09-Mar-20 15:20:44

Another lurker and rare poster here. This is a good way to give us a gentle push to join in more. Thank you.

grannyactivist Mon 09-Mar-20 15:21:46

I've been on here since the beginning, but I clearly remember how nervous I was when I first joined. Several of us have tried very hard, on occasion, to encourage our 'lurkers', but it needed something like this from GNHQ to engender some much needed encouragement.

To all lurkers, newbies and occasional posters. Because threads can move rapidly and we don't have a simple means of response (i.e. a 'like' button) it may seem as if no-one has noticed your contribution. Please don't be discouraged by this, persevere in making comments and asking questions and eventually you will start to receive replies. smile

Very well said!

Welcome to all Newbies and lurkers! I lurk most days and post occasionally, but never on political topics. The main forums I lurk around are books, TV/film and general chat.
Re Pollyolly's comment about the same gransnetters winning prizes: don't think this is the case, I'm sure its random. I have been lucky enough to get a few books from the 'book of the month' draw over several years. You have to be in it to win it, as they say!
