A famous matador gored by bull!
GNHQ have commented on this thread. Read here.
Hello
Are Gransnet and Mumsnet the same 'company', and are posting rules the same?
What follows now is what prompted my to ask.
I had three comments deleted on Tuesday due to them 'breaking talk guidelines', more specifically because they were 'gossip and speculation'. I was told to 'bear this is mind before posting'.
(There is no mention of 'gossip and speculation' in the Talk Guidelines).
I was rather surprised, for reasons which shall become clear, and a teeny bit peeved; but took in on the chin and totally accepted it.
However, it later came to mind that I'd actually learnt said 'gossip and speculation' (which isn't allowed) on Mumsnet.
Furthermore, I learnt this 'gossip and speculation' on a very long running MN thread from 2019, which concerned another senior member of the Windsor's alleged affair.
This morning I searched on MN for the name of this second alleged mistress, and her name appears over eighty times in relation to the Royal Family member.
One of the thread titles in which she appears is '(Insert name here) alleged affair' and another is titled 'Why are the UK press silent about Royal Family Member's alleged affair?'
They are very long running threads and are still available. There are many more threads which discuss the issue.
So, to cut a long story short; are talk guidelines the same on both sites, as it appears that they aren't.
I was under the impression that Gransnet and Mumsnet were one and the same.
Please can you shed some light on this?
Thank you very much!

I did not name names nor would I, you have jumped to conclusions and were wrong.
I have seen a poster who became nasty banned, I dont know the reasons they did it in the end, but I did see the content.
Callistomon apologise, do not jump to conclusions you were wrong and dont justify yourself either.
Lauranorder I have been out for a couple of hours so dont know why you were deleted. If it was about me I did not report.
Can we just move on please - maybe discuss how we could all contribute towards following the spirit of the guidelines more?
Oh god I am going to have to leave this thread, I'm convinced everyone is talking about me <slinks off>
Bloody hell! What on earth is going on?
What's happened to my thread?
Laura, what have you done?
Are you okay?
Jane thank you for your lovely message - you are right, I meant no harm at all
Rafichagran just let it drop now please. I did ask early doors not to bring other people into it. Thank you

? you know what they say, just because you’re paranoid, it doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you ?
Two smiley faces to hopefully demonstrate I’m joking ( maybe ?)
My above post was partly in jest, but I do hope we are all ok
Fanny I would say ( but Laura may disagree) that what she did was a technical breach of the guidelines but not a breach of the spirit. Not mean, not nasty, not goady but just well asking for it technically.

did she ask you to go round her house and turn off her broadband?
OK in the spirit of wanting to be a better poster, what I would like is advice on how to deal with posts that are completely and utterly factually wrong. I find this hard to do without my irritation showing ( ok then without being rude/sharp/ sneery). I mean in situations where the poster is wanting to make a point not a genuine mistake and I do mean absolutely incorrect not an interpretation or opinion.
Just to reassure all, I did not refer to any of the posts since page one. One poster early on suggested that anyone reporting a post should own up so I did. I have only ever, during my four or five years on gn reported one post which was disgracefully racist.
I will always call out blatant racism and report it. Any other petty offence I might perceive, I’m big enough to discuss or walk away from.
Hopefully this time I will not be deleted.
Thank you for your fair explanation Suziewoozie.
Yes thank you FannyC, I’m fine and I’m not trying to be disruptive ?
People can ask you all sorts of things you dont have to comply
. I would only talk about why I have reported in a very vague way.
To be honest I think its partly personal taste suzie, I prefer things out where everyone can see rather than the more subtle ways of being horrible. I also dont mind swearing at all and swear a lot on MN although on here I do try and remember that many dont like it.
SW If I may I will give you a for instance, not one involving you. I posted an opinion on something and missed a word, I do that sometimes, I have an autoimmune condition and had a stroke so sometimes my brain does not comply with me, but I try my best for clarity with posts. Anyway, that was jumped on, sneered at and mocked. When I tried to put it right by clarifying my meaning, it was further jumped on and mocked. I'd like to have carried on the discussion, I had good things to say, but I gave up because I'm not here to be jumped on sneered at and mocked. I didn't report it, I moved on. So maybe, as I said somewhere up thread people could try having a heart before posting an opinion. And as I am less than stellar at this myself I will do the same. I think it's about remembering that it's another human being on the end of the comment and that most people actually mean well even when they don't always do well.
This is what keeps happening on thread after thread, people jumping to conclusions, taking umbrage, accusing others of god knows what
To be fair, I may have come to a conclusion which was based on innuendo but I didn't take umbrage and tried to defend a poster who is not here any longer to defend herself and tried to that in a reasonable and calm way.
Callistemon you are clever and funny, like so many others on here.
No wonder GNHQ have such a hard time, you really are quite an anarchic lot!
Oh, bloody hell, it was a joke, wasn't it?
Oh blimey. I thought that you were using GN tropes. Oops.

Woah what on earth did I say ?
anarchic
that's me, I was trouble with DD for teaching DGS bad manners and in trouble with DS for joking inappropriately with DGD.

In the interests of good manners...perhaps you would concede that you addressed one of your strongly worded posts incorrectly to me??

I had to tell my mother off for teaching my small boys how to flick peas off a spoon onto the ceiling.
Thanks for replying Nell. I think the situation you described is not acceptable - typos, spelling mistakes etc. However on threads were ‘facts’ are put forward often triumphantly to prove a point and are completely wrong, I just want to shriek where do you get your information from and why didn’t you just check it? The trouble is we believe ‘facts’ we want to be true and likewise with gossip and rumour
I had to tell my mother off for teaching my small boys how to flick peas off a spoon onto the ceiling.
Lucca apparently children do not have competitions these days to see how far they can spit cherry stones. It's a choking hazard.
My Gran taught me how to play poker but we had to draw the curtains in case we got arrested

When gossip and innuendo are presented as fact it is easy to come to the wrong conclusion.
