Is there a way of admin preventing further comments being added to a thread, without deleting it? (Apart from when it reaches 1000 posts).

Some threads become completely repetitive and further comments are pointless. Other cases are when OP posts and interesting question but never comes back. Others get revived, sometimes by spammers, after years.
In lots of comment sections of online newspapers etc, comments are closed after a certain time, though you can still read the ones posted.

?

I'm saying nothing!

Oh! I just did ?

Lucca was making a lasagne for friends, and was asking what she should serve with it.
The recipe called for some meat which isn’t usually in a lasagne (I’m a vegetarian, so I know little about this part).
Anyway, lots and lots of posters were up in arms about the inclusion of said meat.
Oh, and one charmer said that they were glad that they weren’t invited as they didn’t like lasagne.
It was quite ridiculous smile

Sorry - I meant about having the last word.

I agree with the OP that they sometimes go on endlessly and get repetitive because no-one bothers to read all the previous posts. Utterly pointless. The OP or Gransnet should be able to close the thread if they feel it's run its course.

Callistemon Fri 10-Sept-21 11:53:28

Ah, yes.

I think that lasagne has been eaten and well digested by now ?

Absolutely! Even worse when people come onto page 7 or something and announce that they haven't read the thread, then offer the most obvious answer that there is only a one in a million chance hadn't occurred to the OP or someone else in the course of 7 pages, or asks a question that was covered in detail on page one. It's just so rude?.

And it's not possible to 'just scroll by' if you are interested in the discussion - you have to read the posts to see if you don't want to read them.

I dispute that Lasagna does not contain meat, there are a lot of variations on Lasagna and of course you can make a vegetable Lasagna but an awful lot of Lasagna are not worth eating. In my humble opinion grin

I remember sausage-gate!

Lucca Fri 10-Sept-21 12:22:12

So do I !
The number of people having a go at me for innocently using a Mary Barry recipe !!
Plus others misreading said recipe

Who has said lasagna does not contain meat ? Don’t wish to be rude but what are you on about ?

Blossoming Fri 10-Sept-21 12:25:28

Just re-read it, you could have laid odds on who would moan about the sausage meat first grin

I do believe that there are posters who want to post something/ anything even if it’s just to comment on the price of eggs in Tesco’s ?
It’s obvious they don’t read the thread by the amount of times the same answer is offered.
There is a thread at the moment where it’s obvious that someone is having a laugh but posters still keep responding. Hey ho ?

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 12:31:16

Which thread is that Meryl?

toscalily Fri 10-Sept-21 12:31:24

I was so captivated by Garfield that I did not notice the link have now read and understand the reference to sausage-gate, quite a debate! Lucca no offence but it was this "The recipe called for some meat which isn’t usually in a lasagne (I’m a vegetarian, so I know little about this part)."

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 12:54:09

toscalily you are quoting me not Lucca
I’m vegetarian, I mentioned this only to explain why I couldn’t remember the meat involved, and why I don’t hold an opinion on the meat involved

lemongrove Fri 10-Sept-21 20:52:29

That’s the fun of a forum, all opinions are there, just as in life.
The urge to police threads should be contained, we don’t need even more rules to abide by.?
As for lasagne ( my speciality!) I will accept it in all it’s glorious forms?

nanna8 Sat 11-Sept-21 00:41:00

Our church and others in the area supply lasagne every week to homeless people in the area . It has mince in it, we follow the same recipe. I prefer moussaka myself, love eggplants. How much do eggs cost in Tesco and do you like thin sliced or thick sliced bread or unsliced? Do you add salt to your food?
Do you enjoy spicy discussions ? ?
