Has anyone on GN got the right to give private information about you?

(593 Posts)

GNHQ have commented on this thread. Read here.

Fleurpepper Mon 12-Dec-22 17:02:28

Surely not. People on GN should have the right to anonimity, unless they choose to divulge any private information, be it about profession, locality, ethnicity, or whatever.

Secondly, should any information given in a PM be fair game to share to other members? Surely not.

GagaJo Tue 13-Dec-22 19:34:38

Because the thing is, I'm sure GNHQ have records of those previous misdemeanours, despite all the protestations of innocence of the fan club on here.

Well my money’s on Mrs. White in the library with the lead piping.

Anyone prepared to get out of the playground now ?
No idea what this is about nor do I wish to but appears ridiculous.

It's as simple as a few members picking on someone they don't like. It's happened before. At times, the member is driven away from the site.

Some older people depend on this site for friendship and companionship. It isn't the same as hazing on social media for younger people.

You appear to be the only person on here who knows who the other person involved is.

She who has seen ‘em all come and go. 😂

Doodledog Tue 13-Dec-22 19:51:13

I really don't think it is as simple as that unless you know more than the rest of us, GagaJo, in which case it is hardly fair to take the moral high ground. It is true that the OP is accusing an unspecified poster of betraying an unspecified confidence, which none of us would have known about otherwise, and it is not 'picking on her' to say so. That really is the language of the schoolyard.

As for the veiled threats about people needing the mind their Ps and Qs - again, that is between them and HQ, unless you are hinting at information that should be private. I am only aware of one poster who was banned and reinstated and has been responsible for the loss of valued posters. (She made a public declaration about it and has referred to it since, so I am not breaking a confidence here). If there are others, it may have been public knowledge at the time, but it isn't now, so it strikes me that you are guilty of the speculation of which you are accusing others.

Lathyrus Tue 13-Dec-22 19:54:55

I don’t get all this at all.

If Fleurpepper thinks someone has stepped out of line why doesn’t she just report it?

I mean what’s the point of telling us, posters can’t do anything about it?

Rosie51 Tue 13-Dec-22 19:59:31

Well said Doodledog. I too am aware of the one you refer to, and only that one. I am aware of other posters that were banned and never allowed back, some of whom are very missed.

There really was no need for this thread and the speculation that has followed. The OP should have asked GN to remove the offending post and taken any grievance up with the person she thought responsible for the betrayal.

VioletSky Tue 13-Dec-22 20:01:27

Oo is that about me?

No can't be

I didn't get banned for reasons people say ( I've been told what they say) I got banned because I gave as good as I got in an argument and discussing with gransnet, my mental health was clearly malfunctioning. Gransnet put it more kindly obviously.

I'm the same person now as I was before thyroidtoxicosis and will ever remain so now I know I have Graves.

Also I apologised profusely for my part in arguments

Also, no one left because of me, maybe switched username which is fine if people want to do that

Nevermind

But there has to be evidence.

So far I haven't seen or heard of any.

And Fleurpepper did say that it is:

^Just an example, to illustrate my point about privacy^

So it's a non-event, a hypothetical situation.

Doodledog Tue 13-Dec-22 20:02:57

If I thought a poster had stepped out of line, I would take it up with the poster. This is not school. As adults we should be able to talk to one another and ask if someone has passed on information or not. Give them a chance to confirm or deny before plastering accusations all over the boards.

You were present for the huge blow-up on here Callistemon. Someone had been unkind to another member and had been banned.

These aren't non-events. They hurt people. And usually, sadly, the bullies pick on the vulnerable.

GagaJo Tue 13-Dec-22 20:06:44

As we all know, telling the teacher about your bully often isn't successful.

hazel93 Tue 13-Dec-22 20:07:41

And we are supposed to be the adults !!
What the hell is wrong with some of you -grow up.

Well quite. Far better to speak to the alleged bully direct. Spreading rumours about her isn't likely to work either, and you might have got the wrong end of the stick.

Oh, I know only too well, Gagajo, having experienced it when I first arrived, looking for friendship and solace.

Silvergirl Tue 13-Dec-22 20:10:08

Much ado about nothing!!! Back to class now children.

Couldn't agree more. Just ignore those you don't like! It's such a no brainer.

Lathyrus Tue 13-Dec-22 20:13:20

Nope still don’t get it.

Are we lining up to be the banned poster?

Sorry I’m being flippant.

I have had my knuckles rapped for that before.

Nothing posted on GN is behind anyone's back.
Anyone in the world can read it.
