I Have to admit that at this time of the year I DO like a bright lipstick.
think it gives one a lift . My colour at the moment is Estee Lauder, "Fireball"
Which might give you an indication of my taste .

Of course My real favourite is Bourjois "Pamplemousse" . But surprise , surprise they have stopped doing it .
That gets on my pip !!!

Soutra Sat 07-Dec-13 20:18:38

I've got a very nice MAC lipstick in a brownish red. It's a matt finish and a bit darker than my natural lip colour. Sadly I can't remember the name of it and I'm sure that when it runs out I will find it's been discontinued.

That's the trouble I have Deeda. You like something, use it ad nauseam and then Boom! it's not longer available. That's happened to me a fair bit and it's a not very nice way of getting us to part with our cash methinks.
I used to love 'Y' by Yves St Laurent and that disappeared off the planet until a websearch uncovered some - and they smelt the same and didn't turn my skin bright green or anything. I'm now searching for another 'me' fragrance.

Golden that happens so much , you get a colour then , kerplunk they discontinue it .
Still I have a little "STASH" of one particular favourite , Bourjois , I find their products very good .
The good thing though is I was down town this afternoon and "looking" and there is a colour nigh on the same !
Yippee !!

It's full of little "pearls" of wisdom. And those shopping tips are worth a bag of gold.

Nelliemoser Mon 09-Dec-13 19:55:49

While on the subject of lipstick this story came to mind. I have heard it before.
The actual contents of this link are upsetting but it is an interesting story.

In brief it is about the delivery by the Red Cross, of a large quantity of lipstick to Bergen -Belsen concentration camp shortly after it was liberated.

How wonderful it must have been to be given something that made you feel female again.Man does not live by bread alone .......

Soutra Mon 09-Dec-13 22:13:12

A propos of not very much my father was among the first troops to liberate Bergen-Belsen. He never talked to any of us about it, indeed I only found this out after he had died and I had a phone call from Tam Dalyell who wanted to write an obit of him for The Independent. My father had said to him, "I have never spoken of what I saw there and I never will."

confused

penguinpaperback Mon 09-Dec-13 22:42:11

A very moving story. Thank you Nellie flowers
I alternate lipsticks with lip gloss all the time. If we are shopping together DD steers me towards a gentle gloss, not too gloopy or sparkly over a lipstick. But I have a lovely Dior nude number 459 lipstick, it's really flattering. And I love Estee Lauder gloss 05 Nude Rose. Those 2 are really my favourites and when I want to glam it up Clinique Long lasting lipstick, Dubonnet. I'm one of those who wears make-up every day, even if I'm at home, by myself all day. I just love make-up. smile
I was one of those little girls who loved watching their Mum apply make-up.

Soutra Mon 09-Dec-13 23:07:54

Why the hmm Ana??

Sel Mon 09-Dec-13 23:35:45

Soooo, back to lipstick. No offence Soutra but the OP was about that, maybe why Ana's confused

I've always bought the expensive stuff, beautifully packaged and would make sure I got every last smidge of it by digging it out from the holder with a brush. I was caught short a few months ago, no lipstick so nipped into a small chemist on Baker St in London. They had no make up but a small display of weird lipsticks called 'Magic Lips' With no option I bought one for £5.

I'll never buy a lipstick again for £20+. I've ordered more, in weird colours, they last all day, amazing value.

Agus Mon 09-Dec-13 23:45:27

I stopped wearing lipstick a few years ago and instead, outline my lips with Chanel Mordore/Nude lip pencil, then fill in my lips with the pencil. Finish off with a few light dabs of Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Lasts a lot longer than lipstick.

Soutra Tue 10-Dec-13 09:02:26

Oh got to keep to the subject have we? Slapped wrist. Surely there is only so much one can say about lipstick colours hmm

Ariadne Tue 10-Dec-13 09:19:59

But it was about lipstick, and it was moving to say the least! Seems appropriate to me.

MiceElf Tue 10-Dec-13 09:24:57

And to me. What a wonderful man.

Nonu Tue 10-Dec-13 10:52:34

That must have gone some way to help the ladies NELLIE , after what they had been put through !

janerowena Tue 10-Dec-13 11:06:34

Sel are those weird lipsticks the ones that look green, but then turn pink and last all day? There were called Magic something and I have been trying to track them down for years, since superdrug stopped stocking them. Luckily I bought 6 the last time I saw them, but I am now down to my last eighth of an inch. I wear them under other colours, so that when my expensive ones wear off I still have some cheap lip stain left underneath. I like brown shades usually, and save the bright colours for the summer because I am too pale to get away with bright red. I think I would just look like a pair of walking lips. I love lipsticks though, and despite all the advice I never throw them out. I've never had any weird and wonderful skin infections either.

janerowena Tue 10-Dec-13 11:12:33

Ooh they are! Thank you, I couldn't remember who made them and my label had worn off. They have some on Ebay and on amazon. The darkish green one comes out a deep bright pink and lasts and lasts, I have never found anything to beat it. Just apply lightly with a lip brush and it lasts for years.

Sel Tue 10-Dec-13 18:25:19

janerowena yes, those are the ones, glad you are as impressed as me. It is possible to buy them direct - I've just bought several, a variety of three in a pack, as small Christmas gifts. Crikey I realise I sound evangelical. The company sells the 'beauty without cruelty' range so they must be nice smile
