Feel liberated, but.....

Evening all, hope everyone is well, and if not, sending good wishes.

Well, it has been quite a few months since my poor hairdresser and I had a marathon 4 hour session converting my dyed dark red hair to a sort of grey.

The process went like this:
1)Apply bleach, leave on, rinse. Result? Sort of pink/apricot.
2) Dry hair to be ready for next stage!
3) Apply more bleach, leave on, rinse.
4) Dry hair, ready for next stage.
5) Apply sort of ash blonde colour.
6) Wait, rinse.
7) Result! Cut and dry.

Well, of course my hair was left in really awful condition, can't blame my hairdresser, but over time it's now ok.

So, apart from the odd dalliance with temporary hair colours, namely Silver (pretty good) and Steel (not so keen) I am now completely natural!

Most of my hair is silver/white, some of the back bits seem to be more iron grey.

It is brilliant not to have to worry about roots anymore, especially as my hair is very fast growing, and of course there is a financial saving too.

However, when I catch sight of myself unexpectedly, I don't feel I look like "me"!

Yes, there are more important things in life, (and I am currently dealing with some) but sometimes the way we feel about ourselves can matter!

I don't want to go back to high maintenance, I.e. having to deal with roots and regrowth, but would like to do something to give a bit of a lift.

Any ideas?

I put light ash brown on my hair. A fiver every six weeks and it just lifts my hair from the grey.

I don't know about the UK, but in Australia even young women are dying their hair grey! Seems to be the fashion. I love my grey hair. There are more important things in life to worry about than the colour of my hair!! And I remember my mother dying her hair into her 90s and she looked hideous! I think natural is always better!!! Who are we kidding anyway.

I got fed up with doing my roots and the hairdresser now puts some ash highlights in the lift the grey, also a sliver toner. I also use a blue / lilac toner from Superdrug which really brings out the silver and makes it shine. Agree about different colours and make up. I find blues/ greys/ pinks and white the best colours and can't wear greens/ browns/orangey shades so much any more.

Thanks for the responses.

I have practically given up on wearing make up blush but I do rather like the idea of the colour mousses, will have a look on line, as I haven't seen any in the shops around here!

I know you said you have given up on make up, but do give it another try.

As I am going greyer from being very dark and have very pale skin I felt I was looking colourless, so went & got myself done at John Lewis. I now use a tinted moisturiser, soft blusher, & a bit of lipstick sometimes mascara too. It all takes a few minutes to do & really makes a difference.

The stuff lasts ages too.
