Bra Straps!

A few of us had a discussion the other day about how our bra straps are always falling off our shoulders - sometimes it can be just minutes after we've put them on! Very annoying! Anybody have the same problem? Our shoulders haven't changed, so what causes it?

Maggieanne Mon 19-Feb-18 11:26:56

Do you remember when we had shoulder bags and we were later warned that it made us "tilt" to one side to stop the bag sliding off because we raised one shoulder higher to keep the bag in place. Across body bags made such a difference.

I have the same problem but not with everything, I have the same make of bra, but it depends on what I wear, most things are fine, and other jumpers/t shirts etc dont seem to suit my bra, quite odd really, but I am lucky not to have this problem regularly.

This is a real nuisance and happens all the time. Especially when leaping about at keep fit and trying to dance and stretch etc.... bra straps half way down arms and quite painful!

W11girl Mon 19-Feb-18 12:38:18

I've never had the problem. Am I the abnormal one?

suzied Mon 19-Feb-18 13:27:13

If your bra straps fall off you are wearing the wrong size bra surely? straps should feel tight and should not move- that’s why they are adjustable. Lingerie straps can be sewn into the shoulder seams of sleeveless dresses and used to be a feature of hand sewn couture garments, so that ones underpinnings did not show. If falling straps is a problem possibly go to a proper fitting service ?

Come on ladies, get a bra fitting done, wear a cross body bag that doesn't pull one shoulder down and as the bossy deportment mistress always tried to drum into us- stand up straight, shoulders back and down. Result- bra straps should stay put.

Agree with suzied.

I always wear an underwired bra and have large boobs so maybe the bra can't ride up and the weight of my boobs in the cups stops the straps having any leeway. Possibly!!

I’ve always had this problem due to narrow, sloping shoulders, it’s a real pain. Those little retainers are still available but they’re not really suited to all clothes. My life has changed since I discovered racing back bras. ?

You may need a smaller size bra with a deeper cup size,

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 19-Feb-18 14:58:05

Oh Janie I've the same annoying problem which is more noticeable with a sleeveless summer dress. In those I've made 'strap-traps' with a loop of fabric and press-studs.
In winter I try to tighten them just a little to get them tight enough to stay up but loose enough to be comfy. Where's the happy medium?

Lewie Mon 19-Feb-18 15:04:14

henetha - my problem as well doing zumba and playing golf. I solved it by wearing sports bras.

DanniRae Mon 19-Feb-18 15:06:26

My left shoulder strap is always falling down - drives me mad. I think the person who said lacy, under wired bras have straps further apart is right. I can' be wearing the wrong size because the right side bra strap never falls down!!

sharonarnott Mon 19-Feb-18 15:10:28

Not having that problem at the moment. I've got so many fat bits crammed in that it is all tight straps included so nothing moves! blush

ReadyMeals Mon 19-Feb-18 15:15:09

Straps are usually designed too far apart, because some designer thinks they look "prettier" like that. On all my bras I unpick where the strap is attached at the front and move it nearer the middle. I think the mistake a lot of manufacters make is not realising that our bones don't get further apart as we put on weight or get larger breasts. The straps need to be exactly the same distance apart for every woman.

Snowedunder Mon 19-Feb-18 15:39:20

I was told by a bra fitter that if your strap(s) falls down then your back size is too small. The back is too tight against your body so the straps are not being used to hold the bra in place. Most people have one boob bigger than the other so the strap will often fall down on the side too.

HannahLoisLuke Mon 19-Feb-18 15:55:13

Hazel, I also wear the stretchy boneless pull on bras. Blissfully comfortable and no slipping straps. Don't think they're any good for ladies with big boobs though.

GrannyParker Mon 19-Feb-18 17:29:22

Oh yes, the curse of slipping straps, awful, I always blame the straps but as it happens with any straps it must be my shoulders. Blooming nuisance whatever the cause.

Legs55 Mon 19-Feb-18 17:44:02

I'm with Hazel too, I do have pretty bras too but for everyday, comfortable stretchy pull on bras are a must, no shoulder straps falling offgrin

carol58 Mon 19-Feb-18 18:29:49

Oo some great tips there ladies! I have a different problem in that one shoulder of sleeveless tops always bunches in towards my neck. (I'm a strange shape due to surgery) but the little loops attached with studs or safety pins might hold the shoulders of the top in the right place if connected to the bra strap! Hurray, you might have given me a solution after years of problems....thank you! Don't you just love GN? ??? BTW the underband should hold the weight of your breasts, so if you've got grooves in your shoulders, chances are your band size is too big....

Coolgran65 Mon 19-Feb-18 20:58:35

I bought a pair of silicone bra-strap-pads that slip over the straps and they don't move. However they are not discreet so only work under a sweater etc and not under anything fine strapped.

Also, they were about £8.

M0nica Mon 19-Feb-18 21:41:26

Rarely have a problem with bra straps, which is surprising as I have narrow shoulders, but cannot keep a cardigan, coat or jacket on both shoulders at once unless I do them up and as for handbags..............

Jalima1108 Mon 19-Feb-18 21:47:59

I have carried a bag on my left should since the age of 11 (it was a satchel in those days) so I could be lop-sided now as my bra strap always comes off my left shoulder even when it has been tightened.
Nowadays I tend to wear a cross-body bag, but it's too late for the bra strap. hmm

Jalima1108 Mon 19-Feb-18 21:48:10

left shoulder!

MissAdventure Mon 19-Feb-18 21:52:32

A long handled bag worn crossways almost saws my neck through! (Quasimodo?)
