Having spent 13 years living in Middle Eastern deserts, I do think a lot of it is down to how much sun you've been exposed to. It's certainly pretty obvious now, which of my ex-expat friends would lie in the sun, rather than sitting in the shade.
Although it was never possible to avoid it altogether, and there wasn't a lot in the way of moisturisers/sun creams available then, so we all show effects to some extent.
I've nearly always used Olay for daytime - I hate anything thick or greasy-feeling on my face, and Olay just sinks in. I do use something a mite heavier at night, though not fussy about brands.
Also need to moisturise arms and legs after every shower or bath, otherwise my skin feels horrible and I start to resemble some prehistoric scaly lizard. Lately I've started using up half a drawer-full of hand creams - all presents - for the purpose. They work a treat.
