Do you and your family wear Christmas jumpers. Or do you think they look tacky

Gonegirl Thu 12-Dec-19 21:16:58

Sounds great Chewbacca. Good idea.

Urmstongran Thu 12-Dec-19 21:19:24

I don’t wear them because like MissA I find jumpers in houses with central heating stifling. Then I would feel itchy and scratchy!

I have a cute Christmas brooch though. It belonged to my mum. This will be our second Christmas without her so I shall wear it on the day with fond memories.

It’s only tiny - the ‘Snowman’ from the film with that beautiful song ‘Walking in the Air’.

Callistemon Thu 12-Dec-19 21:26:15

I've also got some Father Christmas earrings
Ho Ho Ho

Namsnanny Thu 12-Dec-19 21:42:47

Like Miss A I find them too hot for me.

But I'm a knitter so I make them for family....whether they want them or not tchwink

I started making them years ago for the children when they were small, then as they out grew the idea, and they became less fashionable so I stopped for a while.

Some times I make vest/tank tops with no sleeves as that makes them cooler.

I love the fact that they are fixing their place as a 'tradition', and yes they're meant to be ironic!!

Gg ...I think they make knitted jackets with scandi reindeer type Christmas designs on rather that cardigans now. But of course they are more outer wear.

Namsnanny Thu 12-Dec-19 21:44:03

I love the thought of you wearing your Mums brooch Urmstongran, very touching.

Namsnanny Thu 12-Dec-19 21:48:34

Callistemon ….I've got some snowflake shaped earrings, but I usually forget to put them on when Christmas day comes!

Chewbacca ...that's a good idea, I think my son does that in his office.
Makes for better relationships when we laugh at ourselves doesn't it? tchsmile

Sara65 Thu 12-Dec-19 21:51:28

Not for me personally, but my husband and son have matching elf ones, which the children find hilarious!

Gonegirl Thu 12-Dec-19 21:53:05

Yes, I've seen those namsnanny, but it's just an ordinary cardi I want.

BlueBelle Thu 12-Dec-19 22:24:24

You should all come live in my house you would need and love to have a jumper on
I have a black one with sparkly presents on, from this year a dark navy one with dear Santa in sparkles from last year, a white snowflake one and a white one with light up flamingoes but that’s gone in the bin because I ruined the light up bit
I must be tacky if you all think so but they are a bit of fun when there’s not much fun around I always get complemented Yes we all wear them on Christmas Day, kids too

Nico97 Thu 12-Dec-19 23:04:40

I just wish I could buy a Christmas jumper with a v-neck as I really don't suit crew necked ones. If anyone knows where I can buy one could you let me know ? tchsmile

Tangerine Thu 12-Dec-19 23:07:10

I think they're a bit of fun but I think you have to be aware of your audience. There are some Christmas functions where they wouldn't be appropriate. Tomorrow is Christmas Jumper Day and I shall wear my jumper.

harrigran Thu 12-Dec-19 23:07:44

No, tacky.

BlueBelle Thu 12-Dec-19 23:08:22

nico97 I also find it hard to find many v necks either and don’t like the round neck on me but have to buy them as there is virtually nothing else around

Nico97 Thu 12-Dec-19 23:15:00

Same here BlueBelle - I've got a couple but would prefer the v-neck. I just make sure I sweep my hair away from my face to make my neck look longer lol grin grin

rosenoir Thu 12-Dec-19 23:37:56

Amazon sell v neck christmas jumpers and cardigans.

mumofmadboys Thu 12-Dec-19 23:46:42

I think Christmas jumpers are fun! Everyone should have one!

quizqueen Fri 13-Dec-19 00:02:24

I wear Christmas jumpers from mid December (at work for the last week, when our uniforms are put away). I wear them for shopping and socialising and sitting round the house, with Christmas socks too.

MiniMoon Fri 13-Dec-19 00:26:42

Both of my Christmas jumpers are lovely and warm. They have drawbacks though. My blue one has silver sparkly threads that scatter all over the place. My pink one with penguins on the front leaves little balls off fluff on everything it comes into contact with.
I think I need to wash them as they are both new.

Willow500 Fri 13-Dec-19 06:46:38

I too couldn't cope with thick jumpers but do have a couple of nice Quacker Factory Christmas tops which are more like thicker tee shirt material. Also have a Christmas dress with reindeers on it which I've not worn yet smile

Jeanlizzie Fri 13-Dec-19 10:30:41

The Christmas jumpers are bearable but people in santa hats really get to me, i must be getting old and grumpy

Elijah Fri 13-Dec-19 10:48:14

When I worked we always had a Christmas jumper day for charity, I was alway too hot for jumpers so I wore T shirt type tops instead,. Yes we all looked daft but for a good cause!?

Aepgirl Fri 13-Dec-19 10:49:55

I think they are fine, in the right place.

Kartush Fri 13-Dec-19 10:56:03

A jumper in 38c heat would be awe full but the kids sometimes wear Christmas tshirts

EllieB52 Fri 13-Dec-19 11:03:25

I searched high and low for one last year but most of them would be way too hot. In the end I found a really subtle one in knitted cotton from Lands End. Only to be worn at home on Christmas Day though!

4allweknow Fri 13-Dec-19 11:04:13

They are meant to be tacky, all lights and sparkle, musical even. Worn one once and will if requested wear again. They are also meant to be fun!
