Ponytail at my age?

Being very broke at the moment and long overdue a visit to my usual very expensive hair stylist, I am wondering if it’s ever acceptable for someone in their sixties with very fine dark blonde hair to put it in a high ponytail?

I have thick silver hair down to my waist
I wear a plait or whatever you like !
It is more about your attitude
I am 62

Much better to have it neatly tied in a ponytail than all straggling in your face.

Wear what you feel comfortable with. Whoever made up these ridiculous rules about what older people should wear/do need shooting.

shock That might be a bit harsh. [ grin]

I like a low ponytail, but is that really a ponytail? Or just a tied back low bunch? IYSWIM

To be very honest this age thing makes me laugh, as does what will people think of me if I do this, as long as you are happy with your hair colour style whatever and you think it suits you, go for it, I don’t go to a expensive hairdresser mines 30 pound for cut blow dry which I’m happy with .

Hi saracens. I'm 61 years young this year and still wear my hair in an high pony tail and I'm not self conscious. You wear your hair as YOU want too and enjoy life.

I had very long her before having chemo. My preferred style was pony tail or plait . After it all fell out and regrew I discovered that I loved it short! It’s now shoulder length and I find it so much easier to look after smile

I hate to see old men with a low down, long ponytail. They are stuck in a time warp. (The early 70’s I expect). My fingers itch for some scissors ....

I think there is nothing worse than long grey hair hanging down. It's often coarse and unattractive. Just look at the younger women who have really healthy heads of hair.

My fine hair would never stand being in a ponytail other than perhaps a shetland pony style. If it works just go with it. Would the alternative be having fine hair hanging over your face annoying you? Whatever you are comfortable with. There are hairdresser who train stylists and a cut from a trainee would be relatively cheap or if you are near a technical college they may run hairdressing courses and you can have a hairdo for nothing.

I am a young 56 I have long blonde hair. Children In there 30s and six grandchildren oldest is 16 they love the way I look. If you want your hair in a pony tail you go for it.

No I’m 65 and have a long blonde pony tail. I sometimes wear a bun also, long hair is very versatile. Most women on the continent have hair long and up. Love my long hair.

I have long grey hair which I twist and pin up with a prong. It is so long and so wavy now that the tail sits up in a sort of a ringlet on the top of my head. I quite like it. Not really bothered what anyone else thinks about it....

Maxblank Tue 04-Feb-20 17:55:24

Are you male or female?

Female, it's fine. So long not as long straggly bone dry, grey hair, then it's ok.

If male
ITS NEVER OK!

63 here, with long greying-on-brown hair. I wear it in a side-swiped low ponytail; odd months under my left ear, even ones under my right, with the tail falling forward down my front. Was amused in a supermarket to hear a young girl being assured that yes, her hair was now over on the side "like that lady there." Guess that meant that at least one other person likes it! I have thickish hair, a fairly round face, and a fringe.

My mum let her hair grow long in her 90's. I often styled it in a pony tail for her. She loved it!

I cut my own hair for a few years when funds were low. It’s thick and mad, my hair, I know, but no one noticed the difference off my now much more expensive cut. I also do a pony tail frequently.

Shropshirelass Thu 06-Feb-20 08:31:30

I am just in the process of trying to grow my hair longer as it has been short for years. See how I get on.

I did it! Have low pony as advised by you guys, tied with silk scarf, while saving up for hair appt. Happy with it!
Now to buy more small silk scarfs/large silk hankies
