What makeup do you prefer (if any)?

I once got some advice for my ageing face, and decided to stop using eyeliner.

I haven't used makeup for ages but I bought a make-up mirror with 5x magnification and lights earlier this week (on offer at Aldi for €14.99) and decided that it would now be much easier to apply so I could start wearing it again. I also have boxes and drawers full of stuff to use up.

I shall start with a dab of foundation and a flick of mascara (don't want to scare the DGC). I might have to start going to places where people see me, too.

You have ten eyeliners or you like ten eyeliners?
If you like ten why would you need more?

I have loads of tips gained from various beauticians and magazines over the years.

E. g. for lasting lipstick:

1. Apply foundation over the edges of the lips, to make for a smooth transition.
2. Use lip liner.
3. Apply lipstick with a brush.
4. Squeeze a tissue between lips to press colour into skin and remove excess.
5. Repeat 3 and 4.
6. Apply gloss. One beautician had a liquid like nail varnish, which you lightly paint on then allow to dry like nail varnish so you can't close your lips for a couple of minutes.

Sounds a horrible faff, but it lasts for ages, and it doesn't feel likes it's caked on, strangely.

Between times keep lips well moisturised.

I particularly like Clinique lipsticks. I have tried others but think they are the best and wouldn’t use any other brand now

I downloaded Photodiva from photodiva.net/, it is a free photo editor for portraits in fact but is also can add some makeup. So I just apply random makeups to see if it will look good lol. Some combinations really worked and I use them now.

You can never use too much moisteriser massaged in.

Just bought the best eyeliner ever. It's Maybelline lasting drama gel. The applicator is so easy to use and it lasts for ages.
I have hardly any eyelashes so can't use mascara.
Got it on Amazon!

I wish someone would tell me an easy way to apply mascara to my ever more sparse lower lashes. I tried Nichole Shirtslinger's ( sorry ) tip of using a tepe, but with limited success.

For those on here who have absolutely stacks of make-up - it does go off and can hold a horrendous number of germs. Apparently it's best to have very little and use it fairly fast. (So I'm told, anyway)

Instead of eyeliner I use dark eyeshadow. I put beige on my eyelid then use a pointy sponge brush to push dark brown eyeshadow into my eyelash base top and bottom. It is much softer than eyeliner and much better for an older face.

Tedd1 my eyelashes are sparse too and mascara irritates my dry eyes but I can cope with eye-liner. I shall be trying that one you use, sounds promising. Thanks for the tip.

Teddl , thanks for that link,, I have hardly any lashes, or eyebrows, and used to be blonde, fair, o.k mousey.

so I like to put a bit of emphasis on my eyes, else I look "old"

I recently changed from bare minerals to an american brand Mally ,the foundation is lovely ,its a cream in a pot with a mesh over it so the brush doesn't pick up too much and it gives a lovely finish.Her mascara is good too ,I dont like the eyeshadow sticks and they irritate my eyes so its still bare minerals eyeshadows I'm using for now .
One thing I've added to my cleanse /moisturise routine is face oil ,put on last .over the moisturiser it seals it in place and I think my skin looks better after just a few days using it .I do like my make up,I wont put the bins out without it .

Missfoodlove I love make up but I am really inspired after watching this! Will have to pinch my granddaughters Charlotte Tilsbury make up as I can’t bring myself to pay that much!

I have started using Vitamin C oil regularly at night. Also use castor oil on lashes, just brush on with a clean mascara wand. I use Vsadey pure cold pressed castor oil for lashes- it comes with a set of applicators.

I love make up but my tip would be to keep it soft and throw away anything over a year old. It apparently harbours so much bacteria....?

There's a lot to be said for the more expensive items such as foundations. I used to buy Lancôme creamy foundation which I can't seem to find. It all seems to be dry/matt and it cakes too, horrible.
Lipsticks too are a better quality if you " pay out " for them. You're better only having a couple of decent expensive items rather than a drawerful of run-of-the-mill cosmetics.

Polnan try an eyelash serum, they really do work. Mine were getting really sparse and now they are very long. Even my beautician asked what I used! Some are very expensive but I get a very reasonable one from Amazon and it has worked wonders. DIL and GD both bought one.

YSL - mascara
Clinique - blusher, powder and lip gloss.

Very simple routine and used sparingly.

I personally do not like eyeliner, it can make your eyes look smaller, and can look harsh and ageing, instead use a soft powder blend it in, less is more, I’ve found you don’t have to use the expensive brand make up. It’s taken me decades to realise this, lol love NYX lipsticks, if you want to make your face look brighter wear pink lipstick, having worked on beauty counters for a few years before I had my children, I learnt lots of tricks, the only make up product I do splash out on is, benefit mascara, but the rest of my brands are mostly nyx or rimmel

Cambia, I bought Revlon and mid price range alternative eye products.
There are a number of bloggers that will recommend tested alternatives to the Charlotte Tilbury brand.
