After twelve weeks of no haircuts, beauty treatment, nails, eyelashes and eyebrow treatments what are we all going to look like. Men wont be able to get to the barbers for hair and beard trims either!!!!

CraftyGranny. Reminds me of when my daughter said her piano Teacher "opened the door in her nighty".

We searched for years to buy a nighty with a door in it.

I always do my own roots. Supermarkets and chemists sell this so you can all try this at home. Paint your nails if you must. I use mascara and false lashes from Semichem...£1. I always have worn a full face of make up and have never been to a beauty parlour. I probably couldn’t afford to. The most important thing at the minute is to make sure we’re all staying safe. Nothing else is as important as that.

I too dread to think what I'll look like ,but I suppose we have worse things to worry about. Also I feel sorry for the hairdressers ,who can't work, many, like mine, own small businesses that they have spent years building up

As others have said I only have haircuts and occasional eyebrow waxes. Tweezer chin hairs out! So I shal
Have shaggy eyebrows and long hair but it doesn’t bother me a bit. No-one but
DH will see me snd he knows the horrible truth!
Ps This is when Im glad I don’t dye my hair!

Riggie Wed 25-Mar-20 13:23:53

I have shoulder length hair ayway and have been contemplating havig it longer anf growing my fringenout for a while. DH has long scruffy hair anyway. Son is the only one who usually has a proper haircut

This thread has made me laugh. I have always used those wash in wash out hair dyes so never have roots showing I just gradually go grey. I use a Silk epil on my legs have done for years . Not so many hairs left on my legs now. I very rarely have anything on my nails as I am always gardening or doing crafts. I am forever washing my hands though so my indulgence is hand cream. I just told my partner I may have to cut his hair when it grows long but he has informed me he is going to grow it long and have a pony tail if necessary!

gillyknits Wed 25-Mar-20 13:27:14

My hair doesn’t grow long , it just gets bigger and bigger. I usually have it cut every five weeks, so at the end f this I shall look like I could change the guard at Buckingham palace!??

millymouge Wed 25-Mar-20 13:29:26

Can manage to trim my own to keep it tidy until my hairdresser is back.Usually go for a trim every 3 weeks to keep it neat. I shall trim DH’s, he has very thick hair and will have a real mop if I don’t. Like to keep tidy as I think it makes you feel better.

Now I may be able to help you with self cutting the fringe. After struggling with mine for ever I watched a great tip on YouTube and it worked for me. Comb fringe forward and twist it twice then cut straight across. Then repeat twisting it twice the opposite way. Your fringe will be just slightly shorter in the middle (as it should be) but may be too blunt so just point cut it a little and the heaviness well be gone. It worked like magic for me! Here i am with my fringe nicely under control, who knows what it will be like in a few weeks time!!!! lol,

There are going to be some very desperate young women who can't get their beauty treatments! They have so many. Maybe they will end up actually looking like themselves instead of all looking the same. That would be nice.

I worry that the salons will keep their treatments going and spread the disease. Some people just don't seem to understand the importance of social distancing and will try and cheat.

Millie22 Wed 25-Mar-20 14:08:58

Yes some interesting books there. You look great Maw

Lizbethann55 Wed 25-Mar-20 14:24:16

It's my DH I worry about. He has masses of white hair which grows amazingly fast and his eyebrows are reminiscent of Dennis Healey's. He has always been quite smug when surrounded by the many completely bald men of his age group, but it looks as if they will be the ones with the last laugh! I have never ever cut anyone hair and wouldn't dare start now. My own hair is still brown and usually looks a mess anyway, so I shan't bother.

sophieschoice Wed 25-Mar-20 14:44:56

Gee!! if I looked as good as MawB I wouldn't be bothered about the stuff she mentioned either. If only ?

hulahoop Wed 25-Mar-20 15:34:33

I have a wig from when I had chemo so can always put that on if necessary I cut oh hair so no probs for him as long as I can give hug to all my family I won't care .

TwinLolly Wed 25-Mar-20 15:36:55

My hubby trusts me to cut his hair with the electric trimmers (I've not made a botch up job yet but I rue the day when I let slip by mistake and give him a bald patch to match the top of his head ...).

I've asked DH to trim my hair but he is too nervous - even with the trimmers despite my giving him free rein to do what he can. (Methinks that he feels that the wrath of god will be on him angry if he doesn't do a good enough job - not so though!).

Ok, so I told him to give me a number 1 cut or let me shave it off for the sake of keeping it short until I can see a hairdresser. Nope!

So... I might have to try and trim my growing short hair myself of make a slip wink with the trimmers to make an excuse to take the whole lot off. Well... the weather is warmer and I can wear a hat if I need to get groceries once a week. It will grow back.wink

Have offered to pay my hairdresser for two cut and colours in advance she is a lovely hard working girl with a heart of gold and hate to think of her having no money coming in

Went on the Boots website, was put in a virtual queue before even getting access to the site. Wanted some root touch-up spray and did actually find one that wasn't out of stock. Added it to my basket and went looking for something else only to come back and find my basket empty as the root spray was now sold out. Next time, I'll act faster!

Lulu16 Wed 25-Mar-20 16:14:06

My nails have all broken due to copious hand washing and gardening, so no manicure! Decided to have my grey areas lightened a few weeks ago so that with my dark hair it will blend in a bit more when it grows out. My eyebrows will just be Frida Kahlo!

Barmeyoldbat Wed 25-Mar-20 16:23:47

My hair white, so no problems there, but it grows outward and becomes uncontrollably so I will just have to put up with it. Facial hair will be the big problems but I can always pluck. In one way it will be interesting to have a different hairstyle. I always cut whats left of Mr Barmey's hair so no problems there either.

Conni7 Wed 25-Mar-20 16:26:07

My hair will look like a Brillo pad - grey and frizzy!

CBBL Wed 25-Mar-20 16:27:30

My husband has an electric hair trimmer and I cut his hair for him. I have a comb with blades which I use to keep the back of my hair "shaped" so it does not stick out, but I'm going to have to persuade "himself" to trim my hair when it gets longer! I can manage my toenails (just) and am partially sighted, so much of the operation is guesswork! Hubby has no problem shaving, and since none of us have anywhere to go - with cafes, restaurants, and all other entertainment venues closed - only the neighbours (and in our case - the farmer's cows) will be seeing us!
