I particularly laughed at the episode when he was supposed to be watching porn videos (presumably evidence) and slept through the whole lot!

Can't believe it's the last episode tonight! He's so gorgeous and his character is equally well developed. I'm going to really miss this. I love the comic touches and his obsession with food. I'm looking forward to reading the books while waiting for series 2.

Will he ever marry Livia? I don't think so. Will there ever be waves when he's swimming in the sea? Can I resist the temptation to answer the phone 'Montalbano solo'?

I have just googled him and apparently "Pronto, Montalbano sono" is a Sicilian dialect way of answering the phone. Well, there you go. Now we can all swear in Danish and aswer the phone in equally fluent Sicilian Italian

I wonder if we are going to have any Spanish series on any time soon I could do with the sight of some Guarda Civil officers in their nicely tailored uniforms,my friend and I used to go officer spotting when we went to the local market when I lived in Spain I am sure those trousers where sprayed on just for the delight of the local ladies.Another thing was that there where never any ugly officers they all had movie star looks.

Lovely last episode with lots of humour - but I did notice that Salvo is a bit bandy-legged!

You're right, he is quite squat and the legs arre definitely bandy. But Mimi (unfortunate name) is tall, dark and handsome as is the young chap with the "sheep's eyes". Oh what am I going to do on Saturday nights now?

Watch out for The Bridge, another latest Scandinavian thriller, starting next Saturday on BBC 4 with much fanfare too.

Have actually sailed under that 'bridge' ...so hopefully we'll get scenes of both Copenhagen and Malmo

Those who like Inspector Montalbano might also like his contemporary, Aurelio Zen, the Rome-based detective creation of Michael Dibdin. Starting with 'Ratking' his stories explore the dark side of Rome and the Varican whilst delving into some glorious-sounding italian restaurants and cuisine.

Ps: I think that there is also a tv series of the Zen stories.

I think there were four of the Aurelio Zen stories on TV some time ago, but for some reason the BBC decided not to make any more. I wish they would do the Brunetti books. I know they've been done in Germany but Italian stories, filmed in German and then sub titled in English might be getting too complicated!
