I am really enjoying 'The Fall', anybody out there doing the same???

Just watched the last episode and how disappointing there was not a resolution after all that slog of watching over the weeks. Should have been a proper ending.

I read an interview with the writer who said he knew The Fall was disturbing but he wasn't trying to sensationalise. Well, you could have fooled me. But the unnecessarily graphic, sadistic violence was only part of the difficulty of watching.

How irritating I found nearly all of the characters, including GA. The wife and daughter of the murderer were particularly so. And what a slow pace.

Grrr! I'd better do a bit of yoga to try to get rid of some of the frustration.

Yes The Returned seems very promising

I really enjoyed (if that's the word!) The Fall, but like many of you I found the last part a real let-down. It's always the practicalities of things that spoil a good plot: as someone said, as a nurse you can't just pack up and go, and also there were the children to consider, schools, etc. - I spent so much time thinking this, it certainly spoiled the story line. I was appalled by the idea of a) a serial killer who could have lived next door b) the violence, but I wonder just how many murderers are men (well over 50%, I'm sure) and how many victims are women?
Loved the Gillian Anderson character, but admit I often admire women the complete opposite of myself!
I am now enjoying The Returned, too, it's quite unsettling! wine

Saw the first Returned - there were an awful lot of adverts.

Tegan Mon 17-Jun-13 19:06:23

I'm going to get The Returned on dvd; it was much better watching Broadchurch without adverts and it's hard enough concentrating on subtitles withou tadverts every few minutes. Barbara Ellen in the Observer was very scathing of The Fall saying that it's only in soaps that people just up and move away.

I'm going to watch both episodes of The Returned on Catch-up. I made the mistake of going to make a cup of tea at the beginning of last night's episode and lost the thread completely confused.

Ella46 Mon 17-Jun-13 19:15:33

I missed the first one and watched the second (of The Returned) last night, but I found it very strange and switched over.

Ana Mon 17-Jun-13 19:17:32

I think I'll do that too, Tegan, - hadn't managed to watch the first episode by the time last night's was on so I'd always be trying to play catch-up. Plus the no-adverts bonus!

Tegan Mon 17-Jun-13 19:24:45

The only problem with Broadchurch was that I didn't want to do anything till I'd watched it and one day the S.O. went home and I watched another episode and had to wait till he'd then caught up before I could see the rest [although we did watch it over just a few days]. I couldn't just watch it myself as I bought it for him as a wink birthday present.

Still gripping. Still scary but I had problems remembering who is/was who.

The woman on the train.....daft or what?

Ana Thu 13-Nov-14 22:37:13

You're right there, merlot!

"Oh yes, you do look very like that suspect in the paper, yes I live alone, I'm not really blonde and here's my driver's licence (with my address on it) to prove it..." hmm

tiggypiro Thu 13-Nov-14 22:41:33

It seemed to need a level of concentration tonight which my brain was unable to give it. I think it should have been shown quite soon after it finished in the summer - 5 months is far too long to try and remember who is who ! I shall watch it next week though !

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 13-Nov-14 22:41:57

I've just watched the second episode of the last series. I'm all behind. Will I ever catch up?

granjo39 Thu 13-Nov-14 23:46:57

Never watched it before, decided to give it a try tonight but I'm afraid that I found Neil Diamond more attractive on the other channel.

In tonight's episode, first of the second series, Paul comes back to Belfast. He arrives off the ferry from Scotland into the port of Larne.
He boards the train for Belfast at Larne harbour, stopping at Larne town, Magheramourne, Ballycarry.......etc
However, in the first scene in the train, the train is going in the wrong direction I.e. it is traveling towards Larne. In the remaining scenes in the train, it is travelling in the correct direction towards Belfast.

Ooops... sorry about that double post. The first attempt had seemed lost.

whitewave Fri 14-Nov-14 08:46:33

I watched only so much then scarpered off to bed!

Lona Fri 14-Nov-14 09:18:55

It all seemed a bit slow to me hmm

Then I tried to watch Babylon! Is it supposed to be so funny/stupid? Bad language doesn't make it a good series.

Atqui Fri 14-Nov-14 11:24:13

I watched the first series and although I found it v dark, I continued, hoping for a swift resolution- only 5 episodes if I remember correctly. I vowed not to watch the second series as I kept imagining my daughter being watched in her house where she doesn't close the curtains!!!

Ana Fri 14-Nov-14 11:30:27

I agree Lona, it was a bit slow last night. I think it was more of a scene-setting episode.

I found Gillian Anderson even more irritating than I'd remembered! I was shouting 'Speak up, woman!' at the tv...blush

Eloethan Fri 14-Nov-14 14:32:42

I agree that it has been shown too long after the first series - well, for me at least because I couldn't remember exactly what had happened before.

There's something about this series that, apart from the usual violence against women, makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't think I'll watch it again.

Lona Fri 14-Nov-14 15:05:40

Yes Eloethan I know what you mean, it's difficult to put my finger on what is disturbing.

Lona Fri 14-Nov-14 15:07:59

"on what I find disturbing" would have been better!

Actually, I was the first to respond to the op, and I had the same opinion then as Ella46 grin

Ana Fri 14-Nov-14 15:47:18

You could be twin! grin
