I am really enjoying 'The Fall', anybody out there doing the same???

hummingbird Thu 06-Jun-13 22:44:39

I agree Ana. I know she's attractive and all that - but really? She seems to be unnecessarily sexualised, and too cold to be a siren. I'm enjoying being petrified, though. Isn't he scary? He's a fabulous actor!

Maggiemaybe Sun 09-Jun-13 11:55:25

I agree with you, Ana and hummingbird. I can't see anything about Gillian Anderson or her character to justify her being such a femme fatale, and apparently irresistible to both sexes.

And I am a bit thrown by the brooding detective with the eyebrows since my husband pointed out his resemblance to Eric Cantona. I keep waiting for him to say something inscrutably Gallic about catching fish.

Tegan Sun 09-Jun-13 12:09:11

I knew he reminded me of somebody...

Ella46 Sun 09-Jun-13 12:51:37

I think Gillian Anderson's appeal (her character) is precisely because she is so cold.
She doesn't flirt with the men, she just takes what she wants and the men can't understand it.

bluebell Mon 10-Jun-13 22:56:28

confused - were we supposed to take that seriously?

merlotgran Mon 10-Jun-13 23:11:24

Why drag it out into another series? All the shocking scenes and edge of the seat suspense will mean nothing.

Grannyknot Mon 10-Jun-13 23:11:56

Bluebell it kinda fell apart for me too, unconvincing ending.

bluebell Mon 10-Jun-13 23:22:33

Just read the thread on MN - very funny!!

Maggiemaybe Tue 11-Jun-13 07:46:03

Well, what a let-down! I have trouble remembering what's happened from one week to the next - I'll be totally clueless by the time Series 2 starts.

Ella46 Tue 11-Jun-13 08:01:16

Totally unconvincing, messy and rather annoying way to finish (?) the series. Might not bother when it comes back hmm

Bez Tue 11-Jun-13 08:03:40

We were disappointed too with how it ended - but I suppose to have a second series they needed to keep characters.
We found some of the scenes so dark it was difficult to make out who was who - glad the wife and detective had blonde hair!

Ella46 Tue 11-Jun-13 08:11:21

It would have been so much better to have finished this case and come back with a new one.
Although, she (GA) didn't actually do much to solve it apart from standing around with her mouth open!
#quitepathetic

Disappointingly depressing. I suppose I shall watch if there is another series, and there has to be really, but it should have finished last night. The whole thing was unbelievable, but quite gripping, and it is so silly to leave it so frayed at the edges. The more I think about it the more I seem to realise it was mostly about people standing staring.

Gally Tue 11-Jun-13 08:34:48

Very disappointing - I wondered if I had misread that it was the last in the series. I missed the 2 previous episodes, but it didn't seem to matter as the whole thing was totally confusing.

Atqui Tue 11-Jun-13 10:13:35

What a let down. I wouldn't have watched it had I known it would not be resolved in this series. I was very confused by the final victim- I thought it was the woman from the counselling session, but apparently she did go off to a refuge.??

Atqui Tue 11-Jun-13 10:15:03

BTW apparently the story was based on a true case from America ,according to The Times.

Ana Tue 11-Jun-13 10:32:42

Ella, yes! She did stand around a lot looking a bit gormless, didn't she? Glad I'd read this series was going to go out with a whimper rather than a bang beforehand - I was half-expecting to be let down.

Grannyknot Tue 11-Jun-13 10:32:47

Many of the TV programmes now have "episode guides" if you google that plus the name of the show, or sometimes also on Wikipedia. I didn't find The Fall confusing, but husband watches a show called 'Justified' and I sort of watch it (because main actor is dishy) the storyline of which is very convoluted and sometimes confusing, but then I just read out the episode guide to him, and he is no longer confused and I am just as up to date as him smile.

Re The Fall - the final victim wasn't the woman from the counselling session, she did indeed go off to a refuge, which is why her husband's dodgy mates came and threatened the murderer (Peter) and clamped his car etc. The final victim was yet another random one who fitted the profile of his victims, that the murderer found on the internet. He got careless and reckless with the final one and was rumbled because her brother came home with her, but because she saw him upstairs, he had no option but to grab her etc. The unbelievable bit for me is how the wife took him back so readily, despite his "confession" about the affair with the under age babysitter.

Tegan Tue 11-Jun-13 11:04:50

When I realised there was going to be another series it stopped being so scary but I still expected a dramatic conclusion of some kind sad. I can understand his wife taking him back, given that she was pregnant etc[and also he played the 'you don't have time for me because of your work' card] but can't understand how they just upped and moved to Scotland; as a nurse she would have had to give some sort of notice at work. Also why didn't the police pick up on the fact that his dna matched that found on the bodies/surviving victim? And, even though the girl was underage, I would have thought his wife would have confronted her in some way [I'm sure I would have done]. Also the picture of the murderer was so like him why did no one at the police station see the similarity? I also didn't understand what had made him a killer and why he targetted professional women. All a bit confusing confused.

Charleygirl Tue 11-Jun-13 11:29:19

Did the family cat go with them or was it dumped?

Mamie Tue 11-Jun-13 11:39:13

Did anyone watch The Returned on Channel 4 Sunday night? It is an eight part French series with subtitles. I don't usually go for things about the supernatural, but I recorded it and was totally gripped by it. It is about a town where a group of teenagers have been killed on a school bus, but four years later they start to return as if nothing had happened.
Even the adverts between parts were French with subtitles!
I gave up on The Fall after two episodes; the violence against women was too much for me.

Tegan Tue 11-Jun-13 11:53:55

The cat went back to the farm. I missed The Returned as hadn't realised it had started; I'd heard really good reports about it and was keen to watch it. I'm not sure if my Ch4 catchup works.

Sel Tue 11-Jun-13 12:01:04

Mamie yes, I saw The Returned and thought it was excellent. Gripping, well acted, beautifully shot and what an intriguing plot. How refreshing to have such a quality French drama.

Atqui Tue 11-Jun-13 12:08:25

Thanks GKNot. yes it was when the heavies clamped his car I realised I'd got the wrong woman.I did think it strange that the house was scruffy too!!I will look up the episode guides in future.

Marelli Tue 11-Jun-13 12:55:51

I watched The Returned as well, and it thought it very good. Horrible bit where the girl was stabbed at the end, though. Sort of stuck in my mind.
I found it hard to keep up with The Fall, though watched the whole series. Like Bez, I found it difficult to make out certain scenes because they were so poorly lit. Gillian Anderson played a 'come hither' part throughout, didn't she! I'll watch the next series, but think that the end of this one was definitely a bit frayed.
