OAPs Behaving Badly in Tenerife

Just been to Tenerife, didn't notice any naughty oldies, we behaved beautifully

People like watching other people being 'naughty'. That's why there are programmes showing it. It doesn't mean most people are like that but is more likely an indication of unusual, preferably shocking, behaviour. Audiences like their sleaze.

I have set my recorder too, but am sure I shall cringe when watching!

I've just seen a trailer for this programme, as a couple are being interviewed on "This Morning".
It's just as unpleasant watching older people getting drunk, falling over in the street and generally behaving badly, as it is watching the youngsters in Magaluf doing the same thing, imo.

Why do they think it's clever? I don't get it

I saw the trailer YUK!YUK!YUK!! I know OH will watch but it looks very cringeworthy!

We go to a canary island in February/March (funds permitting) and love it. Pity this programme wasn't set on La Palma, which we discovered in March this year. Beautiful island, and our small hotel full of people aged 60 plus, great retirees, all kitted out with walking boots so we could enjoy this beautiful island. Don't suppose OAPs from various northern european countries, who fly to the canaries to enjoy the climate, walk in the beautiful countryside and then drink wine with their evening meal makes quite the same headlines - pitty that.

It looks to me like another ploy to turn people against the older population. How dare we spend our heating allowance on alcohol and enjoying ourselves?

As someone who has visited Tenerife many times (and loved it!) I can say I have never seen this type of behaviour. However, it is probably happening in the sort of place I avoid (the Veronicas in Las Americas!).

The last time I was in Tenerife I met some lovely older people and we would spend evenings sitting outside, having a few glasses of wine and enjoying good conversation, no-one got drunk or fell over in the street, but as Iam64 said that wouldn't make "good" television.

I would think it depends on which end of Tenerife you go to.

Are there still 2 very different ends to Tenerife? Good to hear, last time we went, about 12 years ago, we made sure we chose the quieter part of the island. Had a lovely, quiet holiday.

Oh my goodness !! one couple are from Wallasey here on the Wirral,I hope I don't know them that would be embarrassing.

Only been to Tenerife once about 6 years ago, it all seemed very sedate to me. Didn't know about two different 'ends' to the island, in fact I can't even remember the name of the place enough to spell it properly , Los Gigantes? Something like that, very tall cliffs, hence the name.We had some nice walks, read our books and slurped coffee or wine and generally chilled out.I think the programme makers must have had a hard time finding these people.

We spent our week recently walking, relaxing and reading, went on two very nice trips; also eating excellent food and drinking a glass or two of wine followed by Ron Miel (just the one!). Lovely, but not good tv.

That's the whole point, roses and rosequartz - we all know no one on GN would behave like those shown in the documentary as it wouldn't make good tv, no need to labour the point!

We are all so nice and well behaved on here!! Just saying, in case someone on GN recognises me.

rosequartz I do love a glass of Ron Miel it goes down so so well doesn't it a nice finish to any day,I always buy the one made by the locals of the Islands and not the mass produced one from the main land,in fact one would go down down very nicely just now.

I've never seen OAPs behaving badly abroad - do you think that C5 advertised for raunchy pensioners and offered them an all-expenses paid holiday if they promise to play up for the cameras!

I don't think it's going to be that shocking. From what I've read, it's mainly about a few pensioners who winter abroad because they say it's cheaper than staying at home and they can afford to go out and have a few drinks.

Some enterprising old chap's opened a bar up over there to encourage all this debauchery, apparently!

Hmm...trailers are notoriously misleading. But I might just have to watch the programme now, just out of interest!

Haven't seen the program or the trailer and I'm not sure I want to . There is something disgusting about older people being drunk and disorderly, overly sexual, using foul language and walking around in bikinis and/or budgie smugglers! I think I am probably a prude but I find this kind of behavior stomach churning.
