Indian Summers

It took a few episodes to get into, but now I have I love it. The colours are superb, and the flowers just beautiful. The plot now it's all come together is gripping, so all in all, I'm really enjoying it.

Difficult to know whop are goodies and who are baddies.

I love Indian Summers, the acting, plot, dialogue, costumes and scenery, all wonderful IMO.I always look forward to the next episode.

Its a really big expensive programme for channel 4 to make yet somehow there doesn't seem to be much "buzz" about it. Has Poldark won the ratings war? I like Poldark but record it to watch another time and watch Indian Summers at the nine o'clock slot. I sort of want to see what happens but don't actually care much for the characters if you know what I mean. I'm sure its very clever but sometimes feel I must have missed an episode!

I love it. It's probably the only TV programme I look forward to watching.

I've watched all the episodes but am annoyed with myself because I fell asleep watching tonight. Like others above, I find it confusing and I'm not always sure what is going on. Could that be deliberate? The scenery and the clothes are lovely, though, except for Julie Walters' outfits, I don't like them very much, too shapeless. I just read in a magazine that JW loved her outfits but I can't see why as they are not very flattering.

I'd been looking forward to it but didn't bother watching after the first episode. I wasn't convinced by the characters and didn't like them either. I agree the scenery was beautiful.

I'm not really sure if I understand it, actually! I must be missing something. Maybe I've been expecting more.... !

I've given up on it. I don't like any of the characters.

Am still sticking with this but ,although it's beautiful to look at, they don't seem to be very likeable people. Not a nice place or time to live in judging by this representation

Thanks for the link Pittcity.I thought I'd seen her in a costume drama (Austen/Bronte??) but obviously not. The link was helpful in sorting out who was who.

It must have been a pretty lonely existence for a wife out in the colonies, especially with no internet forums, as you said Jane10. No skype, no Facebook... nothing much to do except drink, gossip or have affairs. It was a hard life

It was just a visual feast! So beautiful. Not the real Simla though. I read that it was filmed in Penang. My GPs were tea planters in Assam at the time this was supposed to be. On looking at their old photo albums things looked much more staid at 'the club'. Thank goodness too! Still it was a hard life for the 'mems' stuck on remote tea estates -no radio, intermittent post and no Gransnet to keep up on. When my Dad was being born the Dr arrived on an elephant -the bridge had been washed away in the monsoon. What a life!

He wasn't a doctor, but took the boy to one and then to the Mission to be looked after. for the first episode I thought it set the scene very well.What a charmed life they lived in Simla and Poona and all those places, having got used to a life in the Raj no wonder they didn't adjust well to life back in Britain, cold, no servants and so expensive here.

I thought the same, but maybe the wig was deliberate, as the rest of the female cast looked to be 'wearing their own hair'. JW seems to be playing a bit of a memsaab, on slightly hard times, but clinging on to the club as it gives her social standing in the colonial community. So appearance would be paramount.

Who was the actress playing the wife of the British doctor(was he?) who left the train and took the Indian lad to hospital with a very attractive young lady? Lots of longing looks so guess that's going to build from a slow burn into a bonfire!! I'm sure his wife(actress) has been in something recently and it was driving me mad trying to think where I'd seen her. No use asking OH... he'd fallen asleep before the train came to a shuddering stop.

JW's wig was a bit naff I thought.

A bit confusing. Needed the subtitles. Lovely settings. I agree with Absent, I got a hint of Mrs Overall at times from JW. I will watch next time (recording to cut out the adverts.)

As I said on a previous thread, it had plenty of posh frocks and fabulous scenery. It did take a bit of getting in to, rather a character overload, but that seems to be the norm for drama these days. It was a bit 'Stephen Poliakof' but not quite so confusing. (don't think I've spelt his name right, so I apologise in advance). I think I've grasped the main characters and so I'll be watching next week. I love that period of time in 'The Colonies' anyway, so I'm sure I'll stick with it.

Julie Walters was ... Julie Walters, although when she was frantically polishing she slipped into Mrs Overall mode for a few moments.

Yes the scenery and the crowd scenes were worthy of a major film project.

I think Julie Walters is going to be the stand out performance in this....as usual.

We really enjoyed it and the scenery is stunning.

I will watch it on iplayer sometime this week I also like Julie Walters .

I'm reserving judgement on this as the first episode in such an ambitious project is always a bit difficult to take on board. Like Lona I found the sound quality variable and ended up putting the subtitles on which I prefer not to do. However it is obvious that a lot of money has been spent. We'll see how it goes.
