I'd quite like to hear Jeremy Clarkson's reaction to some of the paintings

And if they swap programmes I somehow don't see Una being able to see over the steering wheel if she took part in the fastest lap in a reasonably priced car.

Gosh - some of you are very harsh on Una - I would rather have her than Jeremy Clarkson!!

Una Stubbs alone makes this programme unwatchable.

Yup!....its still not a patch on the old 'Watercolour Challenge' with the delightful Hannah Gordon.

However, I am not averse to Una Stubbs, she seems to be genuinely supportive and friendly. Its Richard Bacon's presence I find puzzling, what is he actually there for?

dreadful programme , I hope the participants recover from the negativity . That woman judge is so nasty

Today I am watching the penultimate recording.

Lachie Gaudie is hanging on his Dads coat tails, a third rate artist, Lachie.

His dads use of life , colour in his series from Britanny and Tam o" shanter are so vibrant.

Una Subbs is full of actors mannerisms.

Its so third rate ,the stuff we come to expect from the company we keep afloat by our taxes.

However only having watched 3 episodes the participants shine through, the tasks they have been set however have been compressed and loose the immediacy of being a one off programme.

Its like 3rd rate Blue Peter

Come on the revolution, ditch BBC and its overpaid staff.

I couldn't believe the nastiness of the comments by Daphne Todd - "I snorted with laughter when I looked at your work"! Any judge worth their salt would offer constructive criticism. Definitely not the Mary Berry of the art world.

I have been watching the Portrait Artist of the year on Sky 1 , much better in my opinion , constructive comments and no sneering

I think the amateur artists involved in this programme are terrific sports and should be congratulated on their humility in the face of outrageous criticism. I go to an art class and an art club every week and what I love about both is the encouragement and sheer decency of the experts, as well as the amateurs, when we discuss what we are all trying to achieve. Art should be fun, creative and exciting. Not a death sentence. And as for that Una Stubbs woman ... well, words fail me!

I now know there's another thread but because I'm not going to watch the programme again, I cant be bothered to change it. Sorry.

Daphne Todd painted a portrait of her mother - lying dead in the funeral parlour. Oh wow - that got her noticed didn't it? Google has the images.

The task of recreating the flamenco from memory was particularly difficult , and what I would like to see is the judges doing the tasks and showing their skills , I particularly did not like the work shown as that of the male judge , The female judge I cannot remember if they showed her work ?

My Art College days were pure delight - only positive criticism was leveled at me and as a result I'm still painting and receiving commissions and I will design, paint and create for as long as I am able. Painting is one of the paramount joys of my entire life and I put that down to the encouragement I received then. Forty+ years later the helpful conversations I had with tutors sometimes come back to me when I'm stuck with a problem.

I have never watched such a cruel and spiteful reality tv show. The judges, presenters and BBC should be ashamed, in my opinion.

Many years ago, on a Fine Art degree course, it seemed that the whole point of 'crits' was to see how many students could be reduced to tears by the lecturers!
Not much has changed!

I agree the second and third tasks were ridiculous. A lesson on how Degas created his images would have been a better use of time and money.
