70 Million Animal Mummies

I agree, roses, and I thought of the sacrificial animals while watching this. Battery hens, intensive farming in general, salmon fisheries, puppy farms - they all spring to mind. If mankind can make use of animals, they will and often with little thought for their welfare.

Thinking about it, was it any worse( breeding animals for this end) than ritual slaughter of live animals for sacrifice?Or the life of battery hens, which is truly awful.

Animal sacrifice, human sacrifice – it's happened in lots of places and down the ages. Gods have to be placated one way or another.

is it depressing or comforting, to know that man has been ripping off customers since time immemorial? yes, it was a fascinating programme.

To be fair though, they did say that a huge number of the mummified 'bodies' contained nothing more than bundles of rags and straw with sometimes a tiny bit of a bone in them.Demand obviously outstripped supply!So you were handed what looked like a mummified cat, told' the Gods will be very pleased with you mate, that's a tenner please!' a bit like all the Christian Saints tat that was hawked about in early times, bits of ' the true cross' and holy Saints fingers ( they only come in packs of ten, squire!)

It was pretty horrid to contemplate, but the vast distance of time somehow erases the horror and leaves just the sheer fascination with their belief system and how it was manifested.

I heard about in on the radio this morning. It was horrible. All sounded very weird.
