Dickensian

Dickensian is excellent, the acting, the story lines and the interiors.

It's the only thing that holds my attention these days. It's a quality programme, well done the BBC.

Seems it was her rolling pin that did it so maybe one of their older children had borrowed from Marley then borrowed the rolling pin ...
But that could indicate that it was premeditated.
I think I give up!!

According to Breakfast telly this morning, Mrs Cratchit did do it.

The dilemma will be Inspector Bucket's. Will his actions leave six children without a mother?

Will he cover it up?

He must do or she wouldn't have been able to serve all that lovely Christmas dinner.

Haven't watched this much because I keep missing episodes, so I was a bit surprised to find out that the murder case was unresolved and nobody had yet been charged. A bit unbelievable in my opinion. As for not prosecuting someone because they are mother to 6, forget it. At the time women were sentenced to imprisonment and transportation for small thefts and transgressions regardless of how many children they had.

Am slightly confused about the business with the baby!! I can't believe that the household wouldn't have had a full compliment of servants who surely would have heard and heard all these goings on. I can't believe that Papa wouldn't have returned, also baby hadn't been fed and would by the time she had been handed over to the baby farm, been hysterical with hunger, dirty nappy and cold! All a bit unbelievable, particularly the apparently empty house!!!! Apart from that, spot on!!

I thought they did not have any servants or maids because the father had gone bankrupt. He had been in the debtors prison.
Even in those days, you wouldn't have kept servants just to keep up appearances.

Sir Leicester has paid off all the incurred debts, as you must realise if you've been watching the programme, in the hopes of marriage with Honoria. I think you'll find that servants had been reinstated. I don't think those two ladies particularly Honoria would have run this fairly substantial house single handedly.

I'm not sure about Mrs Crachit? I think this COULD be a red herring of some sort! As has been said, she's in Cristmas Carol, and Jacob had been dead for years by then. Maybe Breakfast TV is part of this herring?!!!!!

They do have a maid, but it was her day off. At the start of Frances' rant at Honoria in the hall, Frances says something along the lines of it was typical of Honoria to do this on the maid's day off. She used the maid's name, but I can't remember what it is.

trisher I don't think anyone would normally be let off, but we don't know what the story is yet and we're talking about Inspector Bucket here. Once he knows what happened, I can see him reasoning for himself about what to do about it. After all, he's no longer involved in the case and did say to Omid Djalili that he would discover who the murderer was for his own satisfaction (paraphrasing here!) - like a private investigator than a policeman.

It did look like she might be taking the blame though,because she thinks her husband did it (as Nelliemoser said before).

Sounds beyond catching up state now think I shall just leave it

I wonder why the BBC made this program - although everyone I know of my age group loves it the ratings are low yet it must have cost a bit to make with so many well known actors in it.

Half a million every episode, so I read somewhere.

For some reason i-Player isn't showing the latest episode yet. Anyone else finding this?

I watched episode 17 on catch up, episode 18 is on Thursday.

My Virgin catch-up must be on a 'go-slow' J52.

It should be there. When you click on the first menu picture for the series, episode 16 appears. It assumes you want to watch that, but under the big picture for episode 16 are little pictures, number 17 is the first one of those.

That's probably as clear as mud!

We had a mammoth catch up yesterday, thanks to DH, and by the end of it I was sick to death of all these awful people. I now don't give a toss who did it and can't wait for it to end!

Greyduster I am really puzzled why you would watch something you don't like. Why not just turn it off? I love Dickensian especially the first class acting and costumes but then I am a big Dickens fan and have enjoyed the clever way the characters from different books have been interwoven to come up with a completely new story. It has been a real highlight of the week to watch and enjoy for both DH and me.

I agree Gagagran (I'm sure you're not!!!) I can't understand wading through a series that you can't stand. Can't wait for it to end?! Why watch any more of it?!! !
I too am a great Dickens fan, having had it read to me from an early age and continuing throughout my adult life. If I didn't like it , I wouldn't watch it!!
The eldest Cratchit son did it?! There's a thought! Roses, I'm pleased to see Inspector Bucket back from Moscow, clearly refreshed by his stay! He's certainly very versatile!!!!!!

Perhaps it was the mammoth catch up that did it; perhaps I'm not the Dickens fan I thought I was and I won't be watching the rest. DH, on the other hand, is enjoying it, so I'll take myself off and watch something else.
