On TV tonight, amazing interview, so much insight, compassion.

Please find the time to watch it on catch up.

There's a difference between coping with it and liking it.*gkn*. I doubt any of us has the vapours! shock

Vulgarity and coarseness is hardly a class issue. There are plenty of us from working class stock on here who knew exactly what would happen to us if we behaved like Miriam. And it wouldn’t have been pretty. grin

Well I like John Bishop and generally enjoy his chats so if I can find it I will watch it. I've seen her on a few things usually about pensioners abroad, not bothered if she's course or not really.

I didn’t think I would like this after some of the comments I had read here.
But “a dreadful coarse woman”? “Vulgar?”
Are we talking about the same person?
She has a beautiful voice, lovely diction and comes across as a warm and witty woman. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I met her when she was promoting audio books at our library and she was lovely. She reads beautifully She signed an autograph for me as Professor Sprout which thrilled my DiL no end!

I used to like MM, funny and erudite but she seems to have gone for the lowest common denominator......smut.

Maw I agree about her lovely voice and diction, but in recent tv programmes, she has rather overdone the conversing about farting and bowel movements! Her own and other people’s. It almost came across as obsessional!

I also watched the documentaries recently in which she travelled across America. I didn’t have much time for her prior to this but she met people from all walks of life, rich and poor, and interacted well with all of them. She didn’t suffer fools gladly, especially over-privileged ones, and was at her best in very deprived areas and in a women’s prison. She showed genuine compassion to people who had been dealt a bad hand in life and she changed my opinion of her. I will definitely watch John Bishop’s interview if I can find it. I only have Freeview and not sure if I can get W but I will listen to the podcast, thanks for the link.

Kittylester, thank you so much, I don’t have a catch-up facility on my tv with Freeplay but there is an a App which I have just downloaded onto my iPad. I have found the interview and will watch it later. My tv is a smart tv so I should be able to put the app on that.

I have met her - and she is amazing! But she takes no prisoners!

Jane43 Mon 30-Jul-18 21:16:51

Sorry I should have thanked starbird for helping me find the app.

I will take some time to find this. I think MM is a very intelligent and compassionate woman.. not sure I know the bloke but will probably say 'Oh him!' when I see the programme. Thanks for sharing the idea phoenix

I listened and liked it a lot. I haven't done podcasts before so in addition to this particular interview, I've discovered them. Wonderful! Thanks so much, GN.

I watched the John Bishop interview last night and thought it was very good. I found that underneath what comes across as a brash and sometimes crude exterior there is a soft, compassionate and loving interior.

I should say, too, thanks to Phoenix for the OP.
