Well, we have to have a thread each season don't we! grin

Katie Piper was announced on Breakfast this morning. I am full of admiration for her and can't wait to see how she gets on.

paddyann Sat 08-Sept-18 21:19:48

cant understand why people are so down on Judy Murray, surely she's an irsprational woman, she coached both her sons and helped them be world number ones
.She's funny and apparently good hearted and she'll give anything a go.I'd rather see a dozen Judy's than all the band members and stage school kids who've been dancing for years and can learn a routine in a morning .

Jane10 Sat 08-Sept-18 21:21:48

Er she's not in this year paddyann!

HildaW Sat 08-Sept-18 21:28:44

.............er have we gone back in time?

Anniebach Sat 08-Sept-18 21:57:03

I missed Brendan

Charleygirl Sat 08-Sept-18 22:13:57

I read today that Anton was not being partnered with anybody this year and was only taking part in the group dances with the professionals. That was not strictly true.

kittylester Sat 08-Sept-18 22:22:44

I suspect that will be the case quite soon. I think it must be part of his contract!

paddyann Sat 08-Sept-18 22:30:41

I do know that but she was being discussed further up the thread and not in a good way

minesaprosecco Sat 08-Sept-18 23:20:03

Does anyone else think Charles Venn is sleazy? I wanted to like him because I love him in Casualty but he made my skin crawl!

Juggernaut Sun 09-Sept-18 00:34:14

Joe Sugg, a social media star?
So, a nobody then!
I just CBA'd with people who are famous for being famous.... or thinking they are!

Alima Sun 09-Sept-18 04:20:58

Agree minesaprosecco, but he also makes my skin crawl in Casualty. It should have been Ethan!

OldMeg Sun 09-Sept-18 06:55:38

I thought Joe Sugg came over as a pleasant and intelligent young man. He certainly makes a living from his chosen line of work.

Joseph Graham Sugg is a British YouTuber, film-maker, author, and vlogger

DanniRae Sun 09-Sept-18 07:37:20

I LOVE "Strictly" but agree that it was a little over the top yesterday with all the excitement when they are paired up. But I suppose it wouldn't be very kind if one of them said "Oh, I really didn't want to be with you..........I wanted the younger, better looking one who looks like they can dance!!"
It would make great telly though, eh? shock

Sparklefizz Sun 09-Sept-18 09:32:39

I love Strictly too, DanniRae, even when I don't know many of the so-called celebs. I don't like the OTT excitement when they find out who they're paired with because it's so fake, I don't like Tess because she seems quite dim and also fake.

I enjoy seeing another side of people - Judy Murray came across as a very good sport (as indeed has Teresa May [ducks behind parapet] who Tweeted that she was watching and if anyone wanted any tips, to get in touch.)

I love Claudia but they could cut out those stupid comedy segments...... but overall it's a lovely happy sparkly feel-good programme, and the dancing is fab - u - lous.

POGS Sun 09-Sept-18 10:37:51

I like Strictly but I recorded it and I quickly realized it was not my cup of tea to have virtually a whole program of introductions so I zapped my way through it. I did enjoy the professional dancing and music though.

Was that format always the way Strictly started?

I don't remember it being like that , more a case of getting on with it because the contestants were well known. I am probably wrong!

I like Katie Piper too Kitty , beauty inside and out.

Anniebach Sun 09-Sept-18 10:42:13

Sparkle, Theresa May tweeted that? I love it,

mcem Sun 09-Sept-18 11:30:03

I agree paddy and realised you were following up on earlier comments.
Keep up ladies!
I'm another who's pro-Charles.

Brunette10 Sun 09-Sept-18 11:47:28

I agree with mcem, think Susannah will be first to go. Didn't like her own introduction, bit ott.

annodomini Sun 09-Sept-18 12:12:44

I thought last night's show was OTT. It could have been done in half the time. And is it really necessary for all the male dancers to pick up their partners and spin them round? So predictable and so obviously rehearsed, if not with those specific partners who must have rehearsed the move too. I thought I wouldn't recognise many of the celebs but realised that I must have seen most of them on screen at some time. I am glad Kate Silverton is one of them. I remember her doing a swimming challenge in the Moray Firth (I think) and she seemed like a good sport.
Joe Sugg has been brought in to attract the youngsters. It won't work because they will have their noses glued to their small screens!
Maybe Graham Snow will emulate the achievements of his fellow professional cricketers, Darren Gough and Mark Ramprakash. He's an amusing character anyway.

kittylester Sun 09-Sept-18 13:03:36

I love Graham Swann and think he has a fabulous personality. He's also tall and good-looking - what's not to like.blush

GrannyGravy13 Sun 09-Sept-18 13:40:50

I think Theresa Mays tweet was brilliant!!!

I think Katie Piper and the guy from Murder in Paradise looked good.

I just remember the excitement when our friends AC was on strictly and went all the way to win the glitter ball!!

Alypoole Sun 09-Sept-18 17:19:21

I did the same as youPOGS and recorded it. I always do that so I can skip through all the unnecessary bits.

I missed Brendan too Anniebach and Orla and a few other “old” professionals.

Jane10 Sun 09-Sept-18 17:31:59

Gosh. I forgot about Brendan! shock
That's showbiz I suppose.

Charleygirl Sun 09-Sept-18 18:09:16

It could have been done and dusted in an hour last night- so OTT it was nauseating at times.

I only recognised the fellow from Casualty, Kate Silverton and the ex cricketer. I have never heard of the remainder before.

Because of the youth, I think that the standard will be high.

Blinko Sun 09-Sept-18 18:23:49

I had heard of about half of them, as per usual. I was quite prepared not to like the young vlogger, but actually thought he came across rather well. I'll be watching out for Katie Piper, Kate Silverton and Danny John Jules. Oh and Graham Swann. Can't really remember any of the others....

NanKate Sun 09-Sept-18 18:50:30

I love to watch the dancing but the two female presenters are IMO inane, irritating and very annoying and when I think about the money they are paid to be ditzie (if that is a word) I despair.

I had to switch off last night when the dark haired one had an eye patch on as a weak joke. She has a double first from Cambridge so she is not thick. What a waste of her talent which she must have hidden somewhere. Her mother Eve Pollard must feel her daughter could use her skills better.

Now my rant is over I know many of you will come to their defence and if you enjoy watching them that is fine.

I shall watch in future with the sound off for the chat.
