Is it just me or did the storyline of Endeavour last night seem far-fetched and ridiculous?

Anja Mon 18-Feb-19 08:04:35

Oddly enough I’m enjoying this.

PECS Mon 18-Feb-19 08:22:08

No doubt nasty cop will get his comeuppance! Less subtle characters atm. Let's hope they mellow a bit. Thursday is depressed...

Harris27 Mon 18-Feb-19 08:35:04

I thought it was just. Me!! I was totally confused have watched two episodes and struggling following the plot!

Luckygirl Mon 18-Feb-19 09:37:05

Not so good thus series - Thursday seems to be becoming more unpleasant and grumpy - no wonder his wife has wandering eyes! And the plots are silly. May not bother again.

Sparklefizz Mon 18-Feb-19 09:44:22

I wonder if the programme has new script-writers as Thursday seems to be changing personality each week, and the plots are silly and the dialogue seems stilted.

It's not a patch on "Vera" and the lovely Brenda Blethwyn.

Nannylovesshopping Mon 18-Feb-19 09:49:25

So disappointed with this series so far, and I love Endeavour, and what on earth is up with Mrs Thursday?

Sparklefizz Mon 18-Feb-19 09:57:40

Last night I wondered if Mrs Thursday had been seeing the "cult guru" but now I am wondering if they are writing the menopause into the series and it will turn out to be that. I am getting cross because they won't speak to each other.

Finding it hard going, certainly not as good as it used to be and is a bit long winded. I do wonder if they are struggling to come up with something that hasn't been seen before.

merlotgran Mon 18-Feb-19 11:01:54

What happened to the WPC in the last series?

HildaW Mon 18-Feb-19 11:57:02

Merlot I believe she went to London or similar - can remember her having some conversation with Morse after the other detective she was sweet on got shot.

Nandalot Mon 18-Feb-19 12:50:20

Mrs Thursday still hasn’t forgiven Mr.T for losing all their retirement fund by lending it to his brother.
I didn’t like last night’s episode, apart from the Thunderbirds.

Sparklefizz Mon 18-Feb-19 16:20:43

Nandalot Thanks for that, I'd completely forgotten it.

Nannylovesshopping Mon 18-Feb-19 16:31:33

I’d forgotten that too, thanks

merlotgran Mon 18-Feb-19 17:13:14

Thanks, Hilda, I liked her and I'm hoping she might re-appear in the future.

I was really looking forward to this series, there is so little on television that I enjoy nowadays, but I gave up at 9.45pm last night and went to bed with a book instead. Finished reading it this morning and for anyone interested it was Lethal White by Robert Galbraith and so much better than Endeavour.

lemongrove Mon 18-Feb-19 22:36:36

The first episode wasn’t bad, but the second was dire.
I think the series must have new writers, it is so different.
What a great shame.sad

Morse also seems to have gone a bit stiff and starchy. He has a lovely smile but we rarely see this. I feel they should be adding in a bit of romance for him, to lighten up the storylines. I’m rather disappointed as I was so looking forward to this latest series. Heyho.

PECS Tue 19-Feb-19 22:33:42

John Thaw's Morse was a tetchy old bugger though & not lighthearted! Loved his music and beer..but not one for frivolity... that has to be threaded into Endeavour. If he was off partying and joshing about that would not fit either!

NanKate Wed 20-Feb-19 14:41:00

Good point PECS.

I'm enjoying Endeavour especially after the very dark Les Mis, which I also enjoyed btw.
I agree with your view PECS
I am getting fed up with the brash, cocky coppers in charge of Thursday and Morse. Their attitude is very indicative of the era though. So glad Superintentent Bright aka Anton Lesser brightened up at Morse being re instated to CID. Pun very much intended. ?

I love Endeavour, I think it makes you think. Writing of this series not as good as in the past, but it's still superior to most of the other rather wishy-washy detective stuff on tv. And Oxford looks as ravishing as always.

PECS Thu 21-Feb-19 15:25:33

Other than Vera and Endeavour are there other current detective series? I did enjoy Rowan Atkinson as Maigret.

Sparklefizz Thu 21-Feb-19 15:39:37

Yes, PECS There's "Shetland" on BBC1 and I am also enjoying the second series of "Trapped" on BBC4 set in Iceland.

NanKate Thu 21-Feb-19 21:36:30

Shetland is excellent

I shall watch Trapped on your recommendation Sparkle I did enjoy the first series.

For those fans of both Shetland and Vera you may be interested in Desert Island discs from last week , it was the author Ann Cleeves she has had a very interesting and varied life.

PECS Thu 21-Feb-19 21:44:35

Oh thanks..will look out Shetland & Trapped. I do not watch a lot of TV but will certainly follow up your recommendations.
