Monty Don

Gosh, I wish we had a Canadian gardening show! I don't think we get whatever show Monty Don is on, but we do have some of his special travels through France and Italy on Netflix.
I do enjoy gardening shows, and enjoy his relaxed manner. He would never get away with looking such a scruff on TV in Canada

Nigel is the star of the show for me.

shysal, so was I. He made Rachel so welcome on her come-back after illness, without standing on ceremony and even had her open up to the viewers that gardening, or being in the garden, had helped her as she endured her treatment. He was incredibly sensitive, and wise.

If only we could cultivate the Monty Don gene. What a lovely, pleasant, kind and knowledgeable man he is.

Speaking as a totally dyed in the wool Monty Don fan, I really do appreciate Adam Swift. He focusses a lot on solutions for little town gardens, and what’s more he “let slip” that his dad was a landscaper so he gets respect from me for being a gardener “man and boy”.
Heck, the programme is an hour long all spring and summer, there’s room for them both, and for the nice vegetable girl who my DH is not-so-secretly in love with.
I’m afraid Carol Klein’s mannered delivery and hair grate on my nerves, and her obsession with bright colours is boring. And the way everything is “gorgeous”. Sorry to be negative.

That is so funny Lily65 Has anyone read Monty's books? I have read Nigel my family and other dogs and The Jewel garden. He is such a good writer, so easy to read and enjoyable, although he has been through some tough times. I find I can't put the book down and when I have to, I look forward to continuing his story.

I love monty. I love his lovely british accent with no local dialect. The relacement had a horrid cockney accent. I think they should all speak queens english if they ate on tv.

Lily65 what are you like???!!! I love Monty, such a calming voice. Also like Adam , enjoy watching him getting to grips with his new garden, and the fact that he worked with Geoff Hamilton, he must have a good idea what he is up to. Also Monty was lovely when Rachel was on his programme, so sensitive. I have a friend that sits there waiting for him to come on the TV and then falls off to sleep (its his lovely voice).

I have a theory that Adam Frost is slowly being phased in. We were shown his new house and garden a little while ago and it seemed a huge project almost as if we would be following its progress for some time. I hope its a very long slow gentle transition. I have always liked Monty as both a gardener and as a philosophical sort of chap but I would not be at all surprised if he wanted to be a little less involved....perhaps not every week.

I could have left home for Monty Don (sigh)

I recommend Beechgrove Garden - the "Scottish Gardeners' World. Very hands in and practical. BBC2 Sundays at 09.30.

When I get my next dog, I am going to call him Monty ( even if it is a girl)

My younger daughter is going to do the same.

I see on a Instagram that Monty’s just had his first grandchild - a boy, George. Perhaps we can invite him to GN now - Lily65, you can show him round Grandad’s shed . Pics from Instagram
