Réal tearjerker last night. Those poor parents trying to make the best of their last few days with their baby.

It was also awful to think that poor May might be taken away from the only parents she'd ever known and her brothers and sister, by a virtual stranger and shipped off to a strange country. Can you imagine how terrifying that would be for a small girl and the agony Sheelagh and Patrick would go through worrying about her.

Trixie is starting to look completely out of place with her mannerisms and ott outfits. They're starting to turn her into a caricature.

My best friend was given pethidine by the doctor for dysmenorrhoea. She really suffered badly with it.

When my son was born in 1964, two, yes two babies born at the same time were born with heart defects and both died! In those days the bereaved mothers just had a curtain round their bed on the maternity ward as along then you spent 10 days in hospital !! I can still remember the anguish of those mothers and Call the Midwife brought it all back in bucket loads. Desperately sad.

I was put in a side room after DD1 was born because it was a long and complicated delivery. There was a woman on the main ward whose baby had been stillborn and like Jabberwok says, they just put screens around her.

As soon as I'd had a good sleep and the visitors had all gone I asked if I could swap. Everyone on the ward was relieved when the staff nurse agreed.

Just caught up with the latest episode and it was a return to form, I thought. The rubella storyline was truly heartbreaking, and I thought the way it was juxtaposed with the possibly of the Turners losing May was clever.

I didn’t buy the pethidine storyline. Sister Frances, as a midwife, would have been very aware of the pitfalls of pethidine and wouldn’t have done that.

Now Nurse Anderson is back with her beau, I wish they’d give Trixie a boyfriend, too!

My father was present at my birth back in 1951. I was a home delivery and arrived early.
The young midwife who delivered me virtually frog marched my poor father upstairs to "help out."
Dad always said it was the most wonderful experience and always encouraged other men to be present at their child's birth.
It also put him off having any more children. ?

Is tonight’s episode a repeat? It seems to be very familiar.

Sorry, I know it can’t be with the running stories but it does seem I’ve seen it before. Good story and yes unfortunately I agree with you re drunk. Unfortunately it’s quite true to life

I often watch things and have a feeling of déjà vu. Probably there are only so many stories that can be revisited.

A very engaging episode. Wasn’t there a previous storyline with someone addicted to something? Maybe I’m thinking of Trixie and her problem with alcohol.

It's such a shame when people are offered Home Care, as the blind lady was tonight, and turn it down out of hand as they don't want "strangers" in the house.
I did home care for the elderly for two years and I found you're not a stranger for long, you become a welcome support to the whole family and it's a very rewarding profession.
Mum and Dad refused all help for months when she had Alzheimer's until a fall, a six week hospital stay and social services (quite rightly) made it a requirement of her going home. They had a most delightful lady called Rosie and Dad was devastated when she had to stop coming after Mum died.

Anyone else worried tháth Phyllis is going to retire? She'd be a big loss.

Hi, in one of the episodes a lady took Castor Oil to bring on her labour? Did this happen? I know of ladies who went on bumpy bus journeys but that was it! I was just wondering if ladies actually did this. I had never heard of it.

I have certainly heard this before, yes, but don’t know anyone who took it.

I had it in 1978.

When they tried to induce me in Jamaica I was given what was called the OBE.
Castor oil floating on orange juice ( yuk), a hot bath and an enema.
They didn't work so had a drip after all that.

I never needed any assistance, but a lady opposite me was having twins, was overdue and being given castor oil and orange juice. It was a very long ward, she was down at the very end, spent a whole day non stop trudging to the toilet, no sooner back than off again!
Does anyone remember being dosed with liquid paraffin and cascara to make their bowels work? It was so vile that every time I was asked after the first dose if my bowels had worked, I said a very quick YES!
