I found Lara’s thread very useful and it was very popular so, as Lara hasn’t started a new thread I have.

Any suggestions on what to watch tonight gransnetters?

I watched a couple of episodes of Lodgers for Codgers. I found it quite interesting as it was all about yougsters lodging with an elderly person or couple. I was facinated by a girl called Lucy who lived in a van, she held such ideals about life and was such a joyful person. There was a young man called Chi who had never in his life had a permanent home. He was very emotional about the plight of his mum, sister and nieces as they all lived in temporary housing and he felt the lack of having a 'shot of testestorone' in his life as there was no father on the scene for him. It is on catch up if you are interested.

I have been watching and enjoying early episodes of A Touch of Frost on ITV3. It starts way back in 1992 so it's fascinating to see how limited the resources were then. No mobile phones, DNA or CCTV. Vague mention of a computer, but not in their office. David Jason was very good, and funny.

I couldn't find episode 1 of series 1 but the rest seem to be there.

Borgen is a brilliant series on Netflix. We will watch tonight season 3 episode 4.

I watched an amazing documentary on BBC2 about Bernard Haitink. It was so good that I watched it again on iPlayer. What a man ....

I have enjoyed documentaries on the Smithsonian Channel called Aerial America, enjoying seeing places I have visited and seeing others I would like to. PBS and Sky Documentaries are also good.
Talking pictures has some hidden gems, I have recorded An Inspector Calls.
If you are in the mood for a bit of nostalgia both Talking Pictures and Forces TV have programmes such as Bless this House, Budgie,Callan. Sometimes they seem impossibly dated. One I have enjoyed is For the Love of Ada which I remember vaguely as a child, very sweet.

I am hoping to watch the Bernard Haitink today - I just caught the end of it.

I watched The 7.39 on catch-up. Interesting drama with some excellent acting.

Bellanonna Sun 27-Sept-20 12:04:14

The Bernard Haitinck was really good, Lucky, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

The 7.39 was also good and very well acted although the ending surprised me slightly.

I watched Michael McIntyre's 'Happy and Glorious' last night. It was dangerous. At one point I was laughing so much I couldn't breathe and the tears were pouring down my face so my glasses stuck to my eyes!
DH came rushing through as I sounded so worrying.
What a funny man Michael is. Nothing offensive either.

Mortimer and Whitehouse at 8pm. Love it. Must go, it’s on soon smile

Urmstongran Sun 27-Sept-20 19:53:17

Me too! They’re on the river Wye tonight.

Jane10 Sun 27-Sept-20 19:54:07

Enola on Netflix is quite good. Sherlock Holmes's younger sister.

Urmstongran Sun 27-Sept-20 20:38:16

Aw, it was the last in series! I don’t watch much tv and I think I’ve only seen one other episode!
☹️
Stunning scenery. Nice touch chatting with the doc about ‘men’s health’. Caught a fish each too! ‘then I let it go again ...’ ? ?

If you have access to iPlayer, all the episodes are on there.
It’s a relaxing half hour of friendship.

Thank you YorkLady for reminding me that it was on tonight. And yes I’ll watch iPlayer catch up once I’m home in Manchester. I’d best start a list.

Oh, missed it!
We were catching up with part 1 of Us.

Is it me or do they seem rather old if the baby born just after their marriage is Albie, age 17? They looked to be in their early 20s then.
They both look to be well in their 50s now.

Luckygirl Sun 27-Sept-20 23:05:50

Marmight - I have just finished watching the Haitink programme - what a truly extraordinary man; not just as a musician.

I also watched the BBC4 programme on black composers, which was fascinating. I have been investigating women composers and they featured Florence Price, a black American composer from |I believe late 19th/early 20th century - I love her music.

sodapop Mon 28-Sept-20 08:34:40

Regarding 'Us' Callistemon I think I caught an inference that they had a child before Albie who died. Not entirely sure though.

Alegrias Mon 28-Sept-20 08:37:03

Their first child was a girl. Albie is a boy. Not too hard to work out. Although I suppose Albie could be trans, but unlikely.

Puzzler61 Mon 28-Sept-20 08:43:50

I thought they referred to a daughter, who hadn’t survived, in the first episode?
I’m wondering if Albie is adopted?
Or if the mother had an affair and Albi was the result?
Or had a sperm donor father but his mother is his natural mother? (they “get” each other, he is blonde as she used to be?)

Perhaps that’s why he has no empathy with his “dad”?

Thanks sidapop that may have been mentioned during the 10 minutes when I nodded off!

Not too hard to work out.
It is if you fall asleep

sodapop sorry
Although sidapop sounds like ciderpop

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 28-Sept-20 10:17:10

If I recall the book Us rightly it's mentioned that they lost a daughter, Albie is their second child I believe.

Tonight I hope to watch 'Honour' though I expect it'll be quite distressing but hopefully a good drama.
