I quite like most of them, can’t stand Jane Macdonald, but enjoyed Susan Calman, and Michael Palin, definitely not Hairy. Bikers, Michael Ball was nice, Rick Stein very good, I like Paul Merton but haven’t seen it yet, depends on the personalities,

Not a fan of celebs going travelling. They all have that smug presentation style that says look at me getting out and about and enjoying myself while you are stuck at home looking at your four walls. I do however make an exception for Richard E. Grant. I'd watch him visiting a sewage works...

So what if these 'celebs' are having a bit of a freebie. Are you that jealous of them?
When you live in the back of beyond on your own, any human interest programme is interesting. So I welcome them all.
Some of you sound right snooty about the efforts that the TV Channels have gone to in order to provide you with entertainment. Wind in your necks.

I have to agree, I dislike these travel programmes as much as cooking programmes. Give me a crime drama any day, I drooled over Luther!

Anything with the word ‘celeb’ is putting me off at the moment - cooking, dating, travel, dancing … had enough being bombarded with it so it gets switched off. Anyone and everyone is a celeb these days! ?

It’s always the same, travelling, gardening, cooking all take over. Why can’t they mix it up a bit? It seems once the powers that be see that folk are interested in a thing, they cram the airwaves with just that topic. Very poor “planning”.

I totally agree. It grates that these very wealthy people are paid to enjoy themselves going to stunning places. Why can't they employ ordinary people (like me!) to visit some of these destinations. After all, we're all photographers and film makers these days. No, I have never heard of Paul Merton's wife before either. I watched Fern Britton, but I get annoyed at the repetitive "My" Cornwall business because really it's mine!!?? However, it was interesting.

These programmes will have been made at the height of the pandemic. It's an option for new TV which doesn't involve huge casts, sets, staff etc which would have been illegal and highly dangerous at the time.

They could have chosen repeats instead. I would imagine it's trying to interest people who normally holiday abroad with snippets and ideas. Boosts tourism too.

As has been said, if you don't like it there's an off button. And many, many new books being released

Yes far too many.And as pointed out, just rubs our noses in what we aren't doing ourselves! I don't mind the odd one or 2 celebs travelling show (the one where they all went caravanning was hilarious!) & someone went to Iceland which was informative (could have been Hairy Bikers?) But come on, now there's far too many, yes as mentioned already, they're getting paid for their 'jollies' i fully agree! I can't stand Jane MacDonald either, and when they rehash all the old Judith Chalmers stuff it takes the biscuit! I can't believe the beeb are trying to make the poor over 75-ers pay a licence fee for this rubbish! Or, indeed, any of us!?

I wonder if any of the ‘celebs’ meet other ‘celebs’ on their travels. There were 2 visits to Portmeirion in 2 weeks recently.

I dont understand why BBC doesnt purchase series from more countries to fill the gaps? Australia for example must produce dramas etc I have seen a couple and they were very good; I would prefer them to endless game shows, or celeb shows! Including the celeb travel shows which are ok but multitudinous.

I do enjoy them but agree there are are too many. Susan Calman really annoyed me as she didn’t mention the lovely things to see but seemed to hang around the candy floss and ice cream stalls. Went to St Ives and didn’t mention the Tate!
Other themes that are overdone are, canal boat trips, antique shows, vet shows, farm shows, road trips, railway journeys, cooking shows!!! Makeover shows although I love the garden ones and on and on.
As I’ve said I do enjoy most of them but they aren’t all good. The latest Paul Merton and wife in a camper van was just boring, their presenting style was just so dull.

On the rare occasions I have watched these programmes it is always some "celebrity" staying in expensive places I could never afford. How about a programme showing the experiences of "ordinary" people, not travelling business or first class, to unusual places within the price range of most of us.

So thats our choice is it, stilton & silvercollie? Put up & shut up, or just switch off?! Shut up yourselves, we were asked our opinion by OP and we've given it!?

Yorkshire seems very popular at the moment too with all the spin offs. And vet programmes in general.

MaggsMcG Each to their own I suppose but to dismiss BBC programmes as "rubbish" is I think a personal opinion rather than a fact. Lots of people, including myself, enjoy the great variety on the BBC. I think Netflix is over-hyped. I have found very little, apart from a couple of films and some interesting documentaries, to entertain me on Netflix.
Whereas the BBC has a whole range of programmes, from serious to light drama, light entertainment, and documentaries:

Line of Duty; Spooks, Sherlock, Baptiste, Broken, Time, The Split, The Terror, Only Connect, Would I Lie to You, Have I Got News for You, University Challenge, Strictly Come Dancing, Fake or Fortune, Wolf Hall, Storyville, Call the Midwife, Who do you think you are, Watchdog - not all to my taste but there are many I have enjoyed.

Of course, there is a concerted effort to get rid of the BBC in its current form, and Channel 4 is now also at risk.

I doubt very much that travel programmes would have been made at the height of the pandemic. We weren’t a,lowed to travel then!

I do like some travel programmes, but don’t want them non stop.
