I am afraid I am left unmoved by this supposed tear-jerker! What a waste of money! What do others think of it?

Bring back the boxer and foxes on the trampoline best advert ever , this years John Lewis both not Christmassy to me

Carooline Sat 06-Nov-21 11:25:52

I was very disappointed in the John Lewis ad and not impressed with M& S either. I adored the penguin advert and the wild animals in the woods who woke the bear so he didn’t miss out on Christmas Day ❤️ Bring back the old ones ?

Calistemon

The spoof ones are often much funnier.

Remember this one?

Love it ??

I think John Lewis set the bar very very very high with the boxer advert and can’t see them easily beating it..

Couldn't work out how it was a "Christmas" advert. No reference to Christmas as far as I could see. All the usual christmassy things - trees/stable/angels/presents/santa etc were conspicuous by their absence. Only plus point seemed to be ethnically correct family! (Don't know which ethnic group and don't want to insult them. - a bit like calling a Scot or an Irishman '"English"!)

not keen on the john lewis advert and have started to hit the mute button with the m&s advert, neither of these will stick in my head and make me want to buy from them.

I don’t like Xmas adverts early November, it’s too soon, then we have them over and over again right up to Xmas until I want to throw something at the tv. With regard to JL, the one I liked was the bear in the woods coming out of hibernation to the Lily Allen song somewhere only we know. None of them have any influence on where I do my Xmas shopping, so to me it’s just a waste of their money which they could use to do some good.

Gabrielle56 Sat 06-Nov-21 11:52:33

As the handsome young actor in the add said once"3years slogging at drama school, and a dog steals the scene....!" It's ok but the song? What IS that caterwauling? Our choir is doing the lily Allen "somewhere only we know" as part of our repertoire this year, I have to sing it about 3 times before I go to choir so I can get all the weeping out of me!!! It's a real hard act to follow!

I didn’t like the JL ad at all, can’t see the point of it. I’ve just watched the Boots ad though and that did bring a tear to my eye.

Advertisements have the reverse effect on me, won’t buy it.
As Christmassy as Christmas Day on a beach in Benidorm.

Call me off the chart but I don't like the idea of young chap meeting anything/anyone in the woods and keeping it secret from the family!?! Are these ads thought up by the new breed of 30/40 something's without children and minds of adolescents? It's rubbish and not thought out properly at-all! Why not have the alien(?) Landing and say sitting in the outside dog kennel in their garden? Or she'd or airing cupboard? Much safer and NO secrets !

Gabrielle56 Sat 06-Nov-21 12:07:15

Tripe.....Hmmmm.....maybe the new "woke" turkey alternative ?? but agree, vanity projects the lot! Agree about donating the costs of these non events to good causes though , maybe show a still of one mince pie, one bauble and one bottle of matey /bar of choc with a pom pom stuck to it, and sounds of distant snowball fight and some sleigh bells? Just a thought!

Gabrielle56 Sat 06-Nov-21 12:09:44

All these ads I fear may be rubbing Dalton some very open wounds anyway. They're uppermiddle I come perfect made up family groups with wonderful looking homes and families, no one doing without here or making do with old stuff? Unrealistic and cruel or lush and fantasy?

Gabrielle56 Sat 06-Nov-21 12:10:34

#rubbing SALT ( where tf did Dalton come from? Oh yeah USA....)

Alioop Sat 06-Nov-21 12:12:35

Georgekirrin I'm loving the Boots ad too. Would just love a handbag like that grin

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Sat 06-Nov-21 12:15:49

Not for me this year, preferred the trampolining boxer dog. I like the Kevin the carrot ads best ??

Riggie Sat 06-Nov-21 12:18:20

I can't get that bothered about an advert. I rarely shop there so them spending a lot of money on an advert isn't affecting me.

MarilynneT33 Sat 06-Nov-21 12:23:12

Very disappointed this year. A lot of money spent for nothing. However, I love this one from the National Trust. What do you think? www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhPGCdTfhp0

sandwichgeneration Sat 06-Nov-21 12:44:07

Always a waste of money and make me feel less inclined to shop there.

It’s very politically correct, no mention of the Christmas story, as you say, and has lost the appeal story of Christmas. Unless of course you think God was an alien and came down in a space ship They have wasted a huge amount of money on this, and it certainly wouldn’t get me into John Lewis.

Kevin the carrot my favourite also.

I am not sure what people mean when they say it's not christmassy, it has presents, Christmas tree, mince pies, family, Christmas jumpers etc.

jaybee66 Sat 06-Nov-21 12:55:39

I liked it.

polly123 Sat 06-Nov-21 12:58:04

I think I am immune to advertising particularly if celebrity endorsed. I always fast forward through ads and when I do catch any I never remember what they are for. I do wonder why they are supposed to make people buy something. Since John Lewis closed two stores which were accessible to me, I don't bother with them.

Lucca Sat 06-Nov-21 12:59:48

I hate the word “Christmassy “
