Jimmy Carr. Loathsome A***

I’ve always despised the man.
I’ve just read what he said about Gypsy Roma Traveller people, and I’m just disgusted.
I’ve worked extensively with Roma children and their families.
He has said that his ‘joke’ was an excellent one because it was ‘educational’.
I wish him nothing but ill.

The worst thing you can say about a comedian is that they're not funny.
Jimmy Carr is just not funny. ?

Ah, but he’d say that you aren’t clever enough
It’s the emperor’s new clothes

Callistemon21 Sun 06-Feb-22 10:11:47

He gives me the creeps too, he looks manic.
And he's a tax evader too.

A thoroughly nasty piece of work.

He's not alone, that other vile so-called comedian who mocked Katie Price's disabled son is back on TV.
Anyone who mocks the disabled in the name of comedy should never appear on TV again.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Feb-22 10:20:11

That was horrendous what Boyle said about Harvey and Katie.

Galaxy Sun 06-Feb-22 10:22:23

I loathe Boyle, another one where the misogyny is absolutely out there in the open. This is quite cathartic fanny smile

Carr's itinerary consists of constant jokes about fat people (mostly women), minorities, sex, anuses, paedophiles, wheelchair users, children with special needs, menstruation, and abused / raped women.

If he's attempting to make a point, my uneducated mind is missing it, even tho' I've tried not to take his jokes at face value. Is he pointing out to us our own hypocrisy? His joke about dwarfism - "are dwarves just aborted foetuses that have survived" simply seems to me like a juvenile joke at the expense of those with this disability. Perhaps I'm missing something? I'm always willing to learn...

... or is he just a more sophisticated version of Bernard Manning?

Oldwoman70 Sun 06-Feb-22 10:28:39

Never listen to him so can't comment on this "joke" - but seeing that picture of him reminded me of a friend who described him as having "the most punchable face - especially when he laughs"

Aveline Sun 06-Feb-22 10:31:06

Jimmy Carr? Yawn

That's him, I couldn't remember his name.
Makes jokes about blind children.

JaneJudge Sun 06-Feb-22 10:48:40

I was really surprised the BBC gave Boyle a TV series after all the comments he made regarding paedophilia alone!

I remember I went to see Newman and Baddiel, many, many years ago and there were jokes about those with disabilities and people got up and walked out! smile (I'm ashamed to say I didn't but I was with a friend)

While I’m here, might take a moment to mention I also love @JimmyCarr, a close friend who’s made about a thousand jokes I wouldn’t make myself, as a stage performer, but as a man is full of goodness and kindness. He’s a properly decent person.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Feb-22 11:12:51

Yes, the kindness just shines out from him envy

Callistemon21 Sun 06-Feb-22 11:14:57

He’s a properly decent person.

Properly decent people pay the tax they owe.

Well this has been an educational thread. I have learned that I don’t laugh at vile remarks (I won’t call them jokes) because I’m too stupid and/or uneducated.

No I don’t think that is right.

The way the conversation went was that Carr maintains that his horrible jokes (dark humour) are supposed to “educate” the listener. My argument would be that those who need educating of the historical facts will simply pick what they see as confirming their prejudice, and not look any more deeply.

My argument is that you would need to have an historical knowledge in order to understand his rhetoric, therefore more educated than some.

? I haven’t explained it very well

I can see where he's coming from in a way.

There's a certain hypocrisy with those that shed tears about the Holocaust but would happily see Roma people banished from the UK, particularly if they were migrants from the EU.

Aren't we all a teensy weensy bit irritated, to say the least, with Travellers in the UK who often seem to be a law unto themselves with their illegal camps and not properly educating their children.

I think maybe Carr hit a raw nerve.

Surely there is a huge difference between being a 'teensy weensy bit irritated' and finding the fact that 500,000 Roma and Sinti men, women and children were sent to gas chambers is acceptable never mind funny?

Larsonsmum Sun 06-Feb-22 11:50:11

This is SO outrageous - as has much of his material been long before this. This could well be the end of his career as a 'comedian'. Many would be pleased about that.

Sago Sun 06-Feb-22 11:55:40

I cannot and will not watch the smug **.
I want to smack his face with a frying pan?????

Callistemon21 Sun 06-Feb-22 11:57:54

I know what you're trying to say but I don't think it's the right way to go about educating the listener.

If he thinks the average listener is apparently too uneducated to understand his rhetoric then they'll either switch off in disgust or he will appeal to those who don't understand the subtlety and will cheer on his assumed prejudices.
It's too convoluted.

I dont think I'm thick but I do think he's odious and I know I'm being prejudiced but I can't even bear to look at him.

That! ?
More succinct than me

singingnutty Sun 06-Feb-22 12:01:33

Perhaps he is taking his lead from our esteemed PM by saying unacceptable things and then claiming of course that wasn't what he was meaning to say.

Sue450 Sun 06-Feb-22 12:03:35

I really don’t get the comedians these days. Their humour doesn’t make me laugh, Eric Sykes, Peter Sellers, Norman wisdom just made you laugh. Bringing political sarcasm into humour to me is not funny.
It can be very insulting as this incident is.

TerriBull Sun 06-Feb-22 13:25:48

Jimmy Carr and Frankie Boyle, two loathsome, misogynists who really don't deserve a platform angry

Give me Ricky Gervais any day of the week and the much lamented late Sean Lock, now there was a man who was really funny

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Feb-22 13:28:30

Talking of much missed comedians, they don’t come better of lovelier than Jeremy Hardy and Linda Smith.
I still feel sad when I think about Linda. She was so young ♥️

Aveline Sun 06-Feb-22 14:05:24

Eric Morecambe. I was smiling even before he said anything. He was only ever offensive about Des O'Connor and Des loved it.

Ailidh Sun 06-Feb-22 14:24:45

I hadn't heard of Jimmy Carr.

By the sound of it I don't miss what I've been missing.
