Wasn’t Mr Papadopolus a manager in a launderette or in the factory or summat?

That was in East Enders, many years ago, wasn't it? I can still hear Pauline Fowler saying his name ...

Max has committed a serious offence - distributing an indecent image of a child. In reality, the police would not take any action against him.

As has already been mentioned on this thread, it is rife amongst teenagers (and younger, sadly) and if the police prosecuted very one of them, they'd never have time to investigate any other crimes.

And Mauren Lipman? Pure gold. I hope she stays for a long time. I still giggle when I think of her 'ology comment last week. I wonder if that was written for her, or if she ad-libbed it.

Maureen Lipman's 'ology quip is still making me chuckle too.
Corrie humour at its best. grin

Poor little Harry, he just seems to be forgotten about at the moment.

Aveline Thu 23-Jun-22 21:27:32

Mr Papadopoulos was also a boss at Gamma Garments I think. Did Emily work there? Who was Leonard Swindley?

lemsip Thu 23-Jun-22 22:01:53

leonard swindley was played by arthur lowe of dad's army fame...
Leonard Swindley was manager of the Rosamund Street branch of clothing retailer Gamma Garments from 1962 to 1965, owned by Greek tycoon Niklos Papagopolous.

you are right about gamma garments.

And Emily Bishop, nee Nugent, was engaged to Mr Swindley, but was jilted at the altar by him,

She seemed the eternal spinster until Ernest came into her life.

Glad to see the Corrie private ambulance is still on speed dial.

lemsip Fri 24-Jun-22 20:35:41

yes and no waiting outside the hospital along with several other amulances for hours.

and who is this 'son' steven that's turned up

Doodledog Fri 24-Jun-22 21:29:26

He's Audrey's firstborn. She had him when she was very young, and he went to live (with his father?) in Canada, becoming a useful host to David, Sarah and Bethany when each of them needed to go away somewhere to get a head transplant.

He pops up now and then to save the day and irritate Gail, who does all of the day to day dealing with her mother and is unappreciated.

Something tells me that this time St Steven is in trouble, though.

I must have s a bad memory I can’t remember Stephen although I ve watch Corrie for donkey years

Doodledog Fri 24-Jun-22 21:39:00

He's been offscreen for most of it, BlueBelle. Audrey would refer to him now and then, and Gail would ship off misbehaving offspring to go and stay with him.

Which of Gail's lot is in Italy? Didn't Bethany go there to get over falling for Daniel?

Sarah went over there for some time, ‘working in Milan’, for Uncle Stephen, doing goodness knows what, and Bethany seemed to spend her growing up years there. This was after the actress playing Sarah left the show, and then returned, as they do, when other acting roles dried up.

I am having problems with diction on Coronation Street. They either mumble, speak too quickly or both.

The answer is subtitles.

Invaluable.

NotTooOld Fri 24-Jun-22 22:34:41

Charliegirl - they do mumble. Even DH who has super perfect hearing, or so he says, keeps asking 'what's he say?'

BlueBelle Sat 25-Jun-22 06:18:50

I remember Sarah being in Milan but forgot about the ‘working for uncle Stephen’ bit thanks calandergirl did we ever see him or was he just talked of

I use the subtitles for everything apart from the news programmes

I think he had appeared as Audrey’s long lost son who she had when very young and single, and he must have been adopted. Think it was a fashion type business in Milan, and although I can’t recall the storyline, I guess he came in to give Sarah a reason to ‘leave’ the Street.

Could be wrong though, the plots grow hazy through the mists of time!

Don’t they just and I have to admit although I ve watched forever I m sure I have missed some over the years so I m always learning bits I didn’t know

Amazing how he arrived just as needed and knew where to get out the car right by the door of the barbers ??? clever man

Aveline Sat 25-Jun-22 12:10:57

Obviously I'm a Corrie nerd but I recognised him at once! Will be interesting to see how the story pans out.

Doodledog Sat 25-Jun-22 15:42:41

He's been back and forth a few times.

At first he was just referred to as part of Audrey's murky past (that she chooses to forget when she's on her high horse), but he came into it properly a while ago - Alma fell for him when she was married to Mike.

He relocated from Canada to Milan, (I think) and has been responsible for getting all of Gail's children into better lines of work than their qualifications or previous training would have allowed - they go to stay with him for a year or two and come back captains of industry.

Sara1954 Sat 25-Jun-22 15:55:07

Wasn’t he back at one point, and Alma fell for him, sadly her love wasn’t reciprocated, I can’t remember exactly, but I don’t think he seemed very nice.

Charleygirl5 Sat 25-Jun-22 17:21:36

I do use subtitles, even for the news. I could not survive without them, even with my impaired sight.

Serendipity22 Sat 25-Jun-22 17:28:40

Sidestepping Stephen ( yes I remember him ) I move on swiftly and annoyingly to his sister Gail, ohhhhh I can't stand that woman, yes I know its all acting but for chuffs sake can't the writers please, PLEASE get rid of her, not bothered how its done, just get her off my TV 3 evenings a week, I absolutely love Corrie, have done for years but..... BUT Gail, Tilsley, McIntyre, Platt, whatever her name is, sets my nerve ends to a point of no return !!!!!!!!!

Sara1954 Sat 25-Jun-22 17:59:34

Serendipity
But Gail was quite a feisty young woman, I don’t know why they’ve turned her into such a drip.

Doodledog Sat 25-Jun-22 18:33:45

She's awful, isn't she? I can't decide if Helen Worth is just a terrible actor, or if it's the character of Gail. All the blinking and simpering is like nails on a blackboard.

She was washing the door of the Bistro recently (when she accidentally threw the water at Shona), and was singing to music through headphones. It was cringingly terrible.
