Janey Godley on BBC 4, 7.30pm last night?
She was in the middle of chemo for ovarian cancer when she recorded this and she was magnificent. Very very funny and she really lifted my spirits and was also open and informative about her diagnosis and treatment.
I loved her before, and love her even more now.

JG doesn't feature here in England, as far as I know, so I'm not too familiar with her work. In the early days of Covid someone posted a few YouTube videos where she dubbed Nicola's press conferences - I found them very funny especially when NS totters off in her high heels.

But I just can't get past the ugly racism expressed many times when she was a fully-grown middle-aged woman, not a callow teen. That sort of stuff comes from the heart.

Out of interest, did she have a Damascene conversion and educate herself out of racism, or was she exposed?

In a statement, Ms Godley said: “These historic tweets that people have quite rightly found offensive are deeply hurtful and shows my lack of empathy and zero self-awareness and come from a time of ignorance in my life.

“I am a firm believer in progress not perfection, I will continue to progress.

“People have every right to see who they are supporting and what values they hold and looking through their past social media is the way forward. I apologise for every single offensive word I wrote.

“The offensive replies from me, were to accounts that threatened me and I lashed out with abhorrent heckles. Their accounts were suspended, I should have blocked and reported them and not argued back.

“Comedy is no excuse for shocking and hurting people with words. I will endeavour to be better in future.

“There are fake tweets that were created to threaten me, but notwithstanding, the ones I wrote, I take responsibility for.

I don't believe in witch hunts and I'm certainly not condoning anyone dishing out abuse to her, but as I said before on this thread, some of the things she said were, in my view, unforgiveable. Yes, she has apologised and some people may think that's enough. I'm not a forgiving person.

She is sometimes funny but too often her foul mouthed rants are just embarrassing. I am sorry she is ill but on Twitter she currently seems to be milking the situation and in the past she has said some truly unforgivable things.

Oh dear-can anybody be said to be milking (possibly terminal) cancer?

An apology due to all cancer sufferers, survivors or not- perhaps?

I cannot understand your reasoning there Maw. All cancer sufferers, survivors or not do not go on social media milking their condition. In my opinion Jamey is doing just that. We
