Your best film ever?

An ad has just flashed up on my phone offering a Private Screening at my local Cineworld Cinema for up to 100 people of my choosing for £120. So a bit like a birthday bowling/ trampolining/ soft play party for a child - but for grown ups.
So it got me thinking - I don’t actually have 100 friends sad so it might be fewer, but what film would I choose ?
While I am thinking - what film was your BEST EVER which you would like to share on a special occasion?
(Presumably the popcorn ? is included )

War of the Buttons?

Several favourite films already mentioned.

I loved Vacas though. Maybe it would have to be that. Not without its faults but still a truly great film.

Showing my age - Brief Encounter - just has to be my all time favourite.

bluebird243 Mon 05-Sept-22 13:48:25

I loved 'Slumdog Millionaire', great film.

Also 'Lion', a true story, very moving. The only film I've been to where the audience spontaneously clapped when it ended... most people with tears in their eyes.

Both starring Dev Patel. Love him.

Oh, The Elephant Man.

Never has one film made me cry so much.

I was in love with John Hurt from the day I watched that film (without knowing what he looked like).

I love brief encounter too, didn’t know it was trendy!

Speed with Sandra bullock and Keanu reeves

Trendy film choice don't think so.

I love Dances With Wolves but three hours is a bit long for a private viewing.

They’d all be nodding off ?

My best film has to be Ben Hur. I first saw it when I was fifteen and I have seen it lots of times since. The one I watch is the Charlton Heston film, the newer one is not very good .

I like war films. The Diar of Anne Frank. Where Eagles Dare. The Heroes of Telemark. The Longest Day and The Battle of the Buldge. But I live Home Alone and Big.. I think The 3 Godfathers is probably my all time favourite though and The Searchers second..

Do you rate the three Godfather films equally? We have recently re watched them and I think nothing can beat the first one. Not saying I don't enjoy the other two, just not quite up to the standard of the first.

I would have an old fashioned double- bill of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Lion.

Kim19 Mon 05-Sept-22 15:05:32

Difficult. I have a few first equals but I think 'Paint your wagon' would have the most appeal for 120 people.

Juno56 Mon 05-Sept-22 15:29:49

I think as my guests would cover three generations I would choose Mary Poppins.

Is that aimed at my choice? I've never turned down re-watching that film and it was a family favourite in my
household. Older films already quoted send me to sleep

Vito

Good as it gets , wonderful film.
Three billboards, faultless .

Frances Mcdormand is brilliant in everything she does (imho)

NanKate Mon 05-Sept-22 16:22:42

The question was “What is Your best film ever-“not “”What do you think of somebody else’s choice”
Let’s not start a rammy in an empty room

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 05-Sept-22 16:51:16

Tinker Tailor (the later one with Gary Oldman).

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 05-Sept-22 17:08:20

Three of my favourites here - Some Like it Hot ( best last line in any film), The Mission ( best music in any film) and Toy Story ( best family film) : maybe a multiplex showing?

LauraNorderr Mon 05-Sept-22 17:24:58

Top Gun for romance, action and great sound track. Moulin Rouge, only for the sound track.
Pretty Woman and Notting Hill for romance and light comedy.
Past favourites Dr Zhigavo for Omar Sharifs beautiful eyes, Far from the Madding Crowd for a great story, the first version with Julie Christie and Peter Finch, and I watched Mayerling at least ten times because I wanted to be Catherine Deneuve, she was beautiful.
Please invite us all Maw when you decide.

Forgot Dances with Wolves and The Bodyguard. Love Kevin Costner and Whitney of course

Whitewavemark2 Mon 05-Sept-22 17:49:59

The three Godfathers.

I do like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers for the music. But there are a few musicals “singing in the rain” “cabaret” “Chicago”

Really there are so many that it is difficult to choose.

JaneJudge Mon 05-Sept-22 17:53:19

If it would be to watch with other people I think maybe Elf in December!

Either Les Visiteurs with the wonderful Jean Reno or Delicatessen with the equally wonderful Dominique Piñon. Both are very funny, and not widely known. Neither are actually my favourite film but Goodfellas (my all time fav) is fairly violent in parts so not suitable for a mixed age audience.
