Your best film ever?

An ad has just flashed up on my phone offering a Private Screening at my local Cineworld Cinema for up to 100 people of my choosing for £120. So a bit like a birthday bowling/ trampolining/ soft play party for a child - but for grown ups.
So it got me thinking - I don’t actually have 100 friends sad so it might be fewer, but what film would I choose ?
While I am thinking - what film was your BEST EVER which you would like to share on a special occasion?
(Presumably the popcorn ? is included )

Cinema Paradiso is good

Shutter Island , never tire of realising how they lead you to the end twist without you working it out

Pulp Fiction is my all time favourite. I love Tarrantinto films, although they’re a little violent.

Yes. PULP FICTION.

Or, would love to see WITNESS again with it's gorgeous barn-raising sequence and fabulous soundtrack by Maurice Jarre.

Love shutter Island and really think Leonardo should’ve got an Oscar for that one, personally I thought it was better than The Revenant For which he did get an Oscar..

halfpint1 no not referring to your choice at all sorry you thought that. I meant to say (posted too soon) there's no such thing as trendy film choice simply because some of them are timeless.

My absolute favourite has to be Braveheart and I love the music in that film as well.. always end up crying ?

I could watch Local Hero again and again. My favourite beach in the West Highlands, Scottish humour, Scottish characters, a great part for Denis Lawson and an intervention by Burt Lancaster. What's not to love?

Local Hero is another favourite of mine, probably more suitable for a mass gathering too as it's funny and a bit less violent than the Mission ?

Yammy Yayyyyy... finally found someone else who has seen The Mission.

Abitbarmy Mon 05-Sept-22 20:19:10

Oh LauraNorderr that is one of my favourites! But I think my all time favourite is Steel Magnolias. All about strong women and the bonds of friendship.

I’ve seen The Mission. I chose the music for DH’s funeral. Best film ever? ‘Rebecca’. Larry Olivier and Joan Fontaine. Priceless! And ‘A Bridge Too Far’. Best casting of a film I’ve ever seen.

So many out there, but if I could only have one it would have to be The Godfather.

PoppyFlower Mon 05-Sept-22 20:37:06

Dr Zhivago. The original film from 1965 with Omar Sharif and Julie Christie.

Depends on my mood.

Tom Jones
Some Like It Hot
The Gay Divorce (or almost any other Fred and Ginger)

Another vote for Witness. The culture clash between the Amish and a modern cop. The love interest between Harrison Ford's character and that of Kelly McGillis' and the tension of the search for a killer.
Added interest is watching Ford demonstrating his carpentry skills.
I also liked the music too.

Jaxjacky Mon 05-Sept-22 21:56:32

The Hunger, David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve, music Bauhaus.
I’ve watched it just a few times ?

fiorentina51 yes, and such a bitter-sweet ending too.

Local Hero for me

Hunt for Red October for DH. We have the video, the DVD, bluray and are word perfect with the script

The Godfathers every time. I was so knocked out by the first one when I first saw it, particularly the interlude where Michael flees to Sicily and the accompanying soundtrack. There was a compilation put together a few years ago of all three whereby sections were taken from the first two films so there was a chronological order to the narrative commencing with young Vito fleeing to America.

NotSpaghetti Tue 06-Sept-22 09:29:57

Yes. Great films terribull!

Athrawes Tue 06-Sept-22 09:35:03

Dr Zhivago
South Pacific

dolphindaisy Tue 06-Sept-22 09:39:58

Definitely WITNESS the chemistry between Harrison Ford and Kelly McGuiness lights up the screen
Also never get tired of watching The Great Escape and The Magnificent Seven especially because of Steve McQueen
