Did anyone hear her on Today Prog Radio 4 this am?

rafichagran Sat 15-Oct-22 15:03:28

Farzanah

So she swore on R4 and the verdict is
always looks as though she needs a good scrub and
possibly has serious mental health issues

Dear me.

This, I like her, yes she has a potty mouth, yes people may not like her farting.
She is what she is, I hope I dont turn into a nice old lady, poor old dear, or poor old soul, I cant stand these descriptions, I will dress how I like, and swear when I want too and I dont apologise for this. I do not however swear in front of children, or when it is clearly inappropriate.
Long may we have Miriam in the media.

She is what she is
That doesn’t mean I have to like her.

I find her repulsive... a show off who swears for affect..... not much else in her conversations

You dont, everone is entitled to their opinion and you cant like everone. I like her though.

I don’t like it but wasn’t shocked, it’s something we hear on tv all the time. She thought she was off air after talking about her friend Robbie Coltrane.

Doodledog Sat 15-Oct-22 18:52:54

The swearing doesn't bother me in itself - I just think she is a show-off. Swearing on TV seems a bit like teenagers doing it for effect, as does the ostentatious breaking wind. She's very 'me me me', and I don't think I would want to be in her company for very long.

I didn't hear the programme though.

Urmstongran Sat 15-Oct-22 18:54:06

There’s a part of me that likes her. She’s foul mouthed but doesn’t care. She reminds me of a schoolfriend from years back. Highly intelligent. Pots of money (which does give one confidence - you only know this when you’re the friend with much less- hey ho!). Money also gives one access to experiences. Hotels. City breaks. Theatre tickets.

Yet confidence isn’t all with Miriam.
I think she hides innate sadness. It’s a mask of sorts.

JenniferEccles Sat 15-Oct-22 18:54:24

I can’t stand her. Foul mouthed, full of herself, devoid of any talent…..
It beats me how anyone could possibly give her the time of day.

henetha Sat 15-Oct-22 18:54:24

I find MM hugely entertaining and watchable. Long may she shock us.

volver Sat 15-Oct-22 18:59:36

I don't think it's accurate to say she is devoid of any talent.

Jaylou Sat 15-Oct-22 19:00:23

Miriam Gargoyle (!) has no redeeming qualities, I find her loud, lude, rude and crude just for the sake of it.

volver Sat 15-Oct-22 19:02:15

Apart from all else, she is a talented actress, particularly in some Dickens roles. She has been highly praised by critics in the past.

Wow, there are some really cruel, unkind comments on here. So much for all the #BeKind stuff, huh?

She is, but that's when she's not being herself. If she stuck to the acting, she could be a national treasure, but lately she's tried to become a 'personality' and (for me) that's where it's gone wrong.

NotSpaghetti Sat 15-Oct-22 19:18:32

She was extremely lovely about Robbie Coltrane. She clearly was very fond of him and accepted him "warts and all". She didn't avoid the more difficult aspect of his life/personality and I thought she sounded like someone I'd like to know. She also made me understand and like Robbie a bit more.

The swearing was really pretty much "offstage". It didn't bother me.

Callistemon21 Sat 15-Oct-22 19:23:58

She's clever and she can be funny without resorting to gutter and lavatory language but yes, this is probably right:

^She appears to have been a very much loved but spoilt daughter, who got away with too much^?
Over-indulged, an adult Violet Elizabeth Bott.

Her programme Miriam Margolyes - Almost Australian was most enjoyable.

People might listen to her if she'd spoken in a reasoned way instead just using foul language which means she lost her argument in an instant. The discussion is all about her - again.

I thought she was clever enough to realise that.

Newsflash...

She doesn't care what any of us think of her.

HeavenLeigh Sat 15-Oct-22 19:33:01

When she was booked to come on, they must have known there was a chance she would swear, she’s certainly no shrinking violet, I’ve read her autobiography, so wasn’t a bit surprised or shocked, I saw the clip on Twitter! I like he.

She's not a legend, she's an attention-seeking old bag. Her way of getting noticed is to be as rude and obscene as possible.

So true Chestnut I totally agree with your comments.

BlueBelle Sat 15-Oct-22 20:01:50

I think she’s a very clever woman with a heart of gold and a mouth of shite
I do think she’s a legend and she divides the world completely between likes and hates there’s no half way mark with our Miriam
When I watched her in Australia I was taken with her caring kind side but yes I do think she exaggerates her mouth to shock She’s got spirit for a short vastly overweight lesbian little old lady

When I met her she was lovely and we talked about her home in Italy. There were children around so no swearing or farting.
