So have switched onto Netflix - wanted to see for myself what the 'fuss' is all about as many diverse opinions on this couple on here and other social platforms ...as well as the media with 'experts' who state this and that etc etc...

I've watched the first episode. It seemed to me a rather nice story of a young couple falling in love. One thing that did strike me was how much Harry hated the press intrusion into his childhood. I think given how he felt their departure was predictable after Archie was born. Who would put their child through the treatment they hated? California laws protect children from unwanted press attention until they are 16.

Four camps.

The ever-growing group made up of people who think I'm just waiting for them to post so I can comment on them.

And they say Meghan is obsessed with her own importance. 🤣

Well at least you own up to being obsessed with your own importance. Great perception on your part, well done you.

volver Fri 09-Dec-22 09:08:00

Five camps? Actually this one is probably very similar to Camp 4.

The people who think they are making clever remarks but actually come across as being the teenager from the Simpsons.

You remember; the "Why are you hitting yourself?" character.

petera best comment so far 😂😂😂

Any reply to my post at 06.09 this morning ?

Also the thread rules are getting silly, sorry. Volver and I told off fir being “wingmen” or a clique of two, now Volver can’t comment after Joseanne.

I had this once, quite a while ago. Accused of 'stalking' someone on here. As if I have that level of interest!

It's an online forum. Other than the mods, no one on here can make any rules for other members.

volver Fri 09-Dec-22 09:18:43

Perhaps we should form a clique GagaJo. All us stalkers together. You can join the one Lucca and I formed.

(I hesitated to type that because someone somewhere will take it literally.)

Joseanne Fri 09-Dec-22 09:21:58

Likewise Lucca, no reply to my honest answer comment either! Just a sneer which I probably deserved for my warped sense of humour! grin

Back to those who watched it, I thought the hair in a towel bit after a shower was clever and hilarious, to make us think she was just like all the rest of us!

eazybee Fri 09-Dec-22 09:23:09

Seeing the clip of Meghan and her curtsey is a revelation. Clearly a narcissist, and on a high, she revealed an uncouth side normally not on display, as she jibed at Harry's family and royal traditions whilst he sat silently by. The 'curtsey' she produced is the 'Texas Dip' as performed by American debutantes, not the straight -backed court curtsey which she was too lazy to learn, as with so much else.
One of those women who delight in displaying to the world at large, but more particularly to their in-laws, just how much power they wield over their husbands.
She may dance high, but she does not dance disposedly.

volver Fri 09-Dec-22 09:24:13

You mean you thought she has bits the rest of us don't? 😲

Meghan in wet hair and towel scandal.

Sorry Joseanne. It's me again!!

Galaxy Fri 09-Dec-22 09:25:11

I mock the royal traditions all the time, many are absolutely ridiculous, I am quite uncouth though.

Luckygirl3 Fri 09-Dec-22 09:25:32

I haven’t watched it. I haven’t needed to as it’s all over the media, the tv and the blogs.

But that is exactly the point!! The media are not a good source of information on this subject which is why the series has been made. The media have a vested financial interest in provocative banner headlines and stirring up dissent.

I looked at the headlines online and they bore no resemblance whatsoever to the programme I watched.

The tabloid press is a complete disgrace. An embarrassment to us all.

Chestnut Fri 09-Dec-22 09:27:17

Oh dear, now Harry is blaming himself for Meghan not having a relationship with her father. 'If Meg wasn't with me then her dad would still be her dad'.

volver Fri 09-Dec-22 09:28:54

The media are commenting on this documentary and giving their opinions of the film and the people in it.

Which is exactly the problem that the film is highlighting. So on it goes.

Nicholas Witchell last night on the BBC News was disgraceful, so much for their heavily trumpeted "balance".

biglouis Fri 09-Dec-22 09:29:10

I watched it last night while I was packing customer parcels. What a load of sentimentalised mawkish twaddle. I wont be in any hurry to watch the other "episodes".

biglouis Fri 09-Dec-22 09:30:58

The only sentiment I agree with is that the tabloid press in this country are a disgrace and need to be reigned in by draconian new regulations.

But H&M have courted this media interest by making the series! So yes, so it goes on. That is their choice. They could have settled down to a quiet life away from the media or they could have done this. It is open season for the press to slaughter them and everything that happens now they have brought on themselves.

Washerwoman Fri 09-Dec-22 09:38:19

I'm not watching despite having NF and stuck at home recovering from surgery.I never intended to watch their wedding but ended up doing so and thought it was joyful. And especially lovely that Charles stepped in for her dad.
Instead now it feels like that their scorn towards the British public has lumped us all into one amorphous racist blob.So thanks but no thanks H and M.
They certainly don't deserve hate, and yes elements of our press are low life.I understand why they would seek an alternative life. But the passive aggressive swipes about cultural differences. The obscene amount paid to rehash all this again. Approaching Xmas- the season of goodwill-with so much hardship for so many this kind of slickly produced, one sided Hollywod style 'docuseries' holds no appeal.

But "freedom of the press" is a sacred cow - and for good reasons in a democracy. Freedoms require some sense of responsibility - as I have asked before, how do we curb these excesses without quashing press freedom?

As to the RF - they are a good tourist draw, and I guess that is why we still have them. But they are an anachronism and their behaviour is toxic - old ideas of monarchs marrying for political reasons and then have their bits on the side is offensive in the 21st century, and as for the bloody curtseying .... what a total nonsense.

They haven't brought it on themselves Chestnut. Its perfectly allowable to make a documentary about yourself and not to have the press "slaughter" you for it. "Why are you hitting yourself", again.

If certain parts of society don't like these two, fair enough. But they absolutely should not have to hide away and not say anything just so that the press don't crucify them. Whether we approve of them or not.

And the whole "privacy" thing is a red herring. You can have a life lived in the public eye and not have revenge wreaked on you in the way of insults and false accusations. They can show us what they want to show us, and still not expect the paparazzi to follow them around day and night.

Galaxy Fri 09-Dec-22 09:46:37

I am not keen on blanket condemnation of the press to be honest, and I would be very cautious in terms of limiting press freedom. I think we have to put up with those excesses because the alternative (controlling the press) is much worse.

You sound as though you are trying to form a," Just Like Meghan Markle ", fan club and emulate her behaviour.
Let's all get at people and then pretend they were doing it to us first. Let's stalk and pretend we're not. You hesitate to type,I must have missed that one.
How old are you, all playground stuff do you really think you are so important that we wait for your posts? We've all got a life and better things to do. Haven't you noticed the streams where your posts are have gradually been ignored by a lot of people? What a sad life.sad
