Otto film starring Tom Hanks

Thanks. I like Tom Hanks a lot. I plan to go and see it.

I'm going to see it on Thursday. It's a group trip, and I wasn't particularly keen (my vote was for Till), but it's good to hear it's worth seeing. I'll stock up on tissues as I'm a massive softie, so thanks for the tip .

Oh dear. I loved the book and can't imagine how it might be Americanised. I also love Tom Hanks. I just don't know if I can bear to see the film.
I hope they don't try to do the same to 'Britt Marie was here'. Great books.

My daughter who is a great fan of the book said the book is sadder but it has been sympathetically transferred to America. It isn't a typical American street (if that helps).

I saw Otto at the cinema today. An excellent performance by Tom, and all the cast. For me it was a bit slow to get going, it was quite depressing in the middle but it got better and better as the film progressed. It was a happy sad ending.

I assume it’s the same story as A Man Called Ove which I saw at our indie cinema a few years ago. That was lovely.

Went to see this as it was a vile wet day . Enjoyed most of it very much Tom Hanks is such a wonderful actor how he manages to convey thoughts and feelings just with facial expressions is amazing.Thought the film possibly a tad long ?

I read the book and saw the original film. Both excellent. I don't think I'll bother with this version.

I enjoyed the book and love Tom Hanks, so it’s definitely on my list.

I loved the book. I think that I will wait until the film is on Prime, or Netflix or whatever. I will be interested to see how it pans out. It's funny how some films you instinctively feel would make a good film, this wasn't one for me, but Tom Hanks is a good actor.

I tend to save the cinema for more spectacular movies especially with music! A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody and especially My Generation with Michael Caine, which was wonderful at the cinema! All that fantastic 1960s music and fabulous footage to go with it. I usually watch 'people' movies at home. Sully was well worth seeing at the cinema because it involved a crash landing on the river.

Going this week look forward to it.

I doubt I will go to the theatre to see it, but that's because our movie theatre isn't very nice! I will look forward to seeing it next year on a streaming platform.

I read the book, and saw the original movie. and really enjoyed both.

Tom hanks is brilliant in this film, it was sad and happy, loved it.

I can't think why? I actually never read reviews and like to form my own opinion, watch the film with no expectations, other than a nice cup of coffee, comfortable seat and a diversion from everyday life.

Brilliant acting from Hanks as the cantankerous old grump and Mariana Trevino as the foreign neighbour - the usual pathos, black humour and laugh out loud comedy of a 'feel good' film. A big lump in my throat at the end, but no tears.

A comfortable reclining seat, glass of wine and a few nibbles - a nice way to spend a gloomy Saturday afternoon

NB. For those who don't know the book, there is a suicide theme to the story.

Tonight it's The Lost King which I want to see.

It was on tv last night. I decided to make a point of watching it did enjoy it. As with most American adaptations of Scandi films it wasn’t so understated and was a bit over sentimental but I think I can watch Tom Hanks in just about anything. I might rewatch the Scandi version which I have on dvd somewhere. Pre covid, when we used to go to the cinema at least once a week we used to see lots of Scandi films. The American Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was quite good but their Let the Right One In didn’t lend itself to an American remake.

I did see it and didn't like it. I loved the book and I really like Tom Hanks but this Americanised version just didn't work. The book deserves better.

This is a beautiful film that shows all aspects of human emotions. It is both funny and heartbreaking in equal measure. I had tears streaming down my face in some parts. I cannot recommend it high enough.
