On BBC 2 now
Anyone watching this? She is amazing for 90! Obviously her hair is dyed, (or is it a wig?) and is heavily made up but still looks great. Very watchable.

I watched both interviews by Louis , he’s very skilled and knowledgeable of all of the stars . He’s gentle in his ability to get them to open up. Joan has lived and expressed that well. How she looks is her business. She’s a strong woman . If he was a therapist he would have a queue around the block. He got Pete to face stuff in his past by being silent when he spoke. No false posturing. Excellent tv.

welbeck Sat 25-Nov-23 12:47:28

yes, being silent can be v effective.
i remember reading the obituary of a successful literary agent.
she had kind of fallen into it, and in the beginning was astonished by how much publishers were offering for her authors' works.
she was amazed at how high the figure was.
so she said nothing, trying to think what to say.
and nearly always the publishers would then up their offer.
and she got the reputation of being an agent who drove a hard bargain.

I went to 'an evening with Joan' a while back and she was brilliant and interesting. I did not know what to expect, but thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Joan Collins did an evening with at our local Theatre recently and was seen in our local Greggs the next morning buying a Veggy Sausage Roll she looked amazing for her age, hair and make-up was spot on she is so attractive for her age she was very plesent & friendly chatting away with locals

Sadly I watched the programme.
Not looking well but trying to be glamorous and succeeding. Her attitude to others was demanding and it didn’t appear to bother her.
She has had an interesting life and her stories are entertaining.
Not a ‘nice’ person is my opinion. Could be more humble.

have i ?
i still don't get it.
i mean, the nazis were not known for respecting the rule of law, were pure fascists, might equals right.
so why not flex those muscles, stomp those jackboots, and grab everything in switzerland too.
i realise this question reveals more about my lack of understanding generally . . .

Welbeck
The Swiss were in a financial position to sell the stolen nazi gold to other countries. As they are doing now with the Russian gold sent to them.

Really? By who?

As I will be 90 next year, I will now watch the interview. I am not a film fan, but Joan Collins is a great personality so it will be interesting to see her. Fleur Pepper’s carry on about three Italian party makes me shake my head. From a light hearted discussion about a famous personality, FP has to bring her hatred of Johnson into the subject. What a miserable thing to do! Can I ask a question? How many Grans like FP are Scottish? If most of those who dwell only on hating the Tories are Scots then I understand them better. Now if I could be bothered I could rake up Jeremy Corbyn’s sex life and wee could have a thread about him, but I notice that nobody seems to have any interest in a rather insignificant man so he isn’t worth it. I love Gransnet but I had no idea that so many middle class, well educated women seem to hate a lot of disdain for those of us who have a more middle view of the world.

Callistemon21 Sat 25-Nov-23 16:08:33

I think Joanie's love life might be a whole lot more interesting than either Boris's or Jeremy's, Annie1!

montymops Sat 25-Nov-23 16:18:45

I think she looks amazing - yes, she’s had stuff done to her face etc - but what a personality- it shines through- she’s so down to earth, still flirts, beautiful eyes and I loved that phrase- ‘ ‘the ego has landed’ - perfect!👌

Agree absolutely.

Fleurpepper isn’t Scottish, she’s Swiss living in Switzerland.

Calendargirl Sat 25-Nov-23 17:07:44

One or two Scottish grans on GN are not happy with either the Westminster government or the Royal Family.

This is to springishere.

(I’m not in Scotland, by the way!)

RosiesMaw Sat 25-Nov-23 17:13:30

How many Grans like FP are Scottish?

Whatever gave you that idea?

Unless there are more ancestors along with the Tasmanians, French, S. African, Swiss etc?

Jeremy Corbyn was never Foreign Secretary unlike Johnson who was in that position when he went unchaperoned to that party. A huge security risk to the country and something that should not be overlooked.

I sit back in amazement! Fleur Pepper lives in Switzerland! I love that country! My sister in law has a Swiss husband and we get on very well. I always thought Fleur Pepper was a Scot. All I can say is lucky you FP! only drawback is that Switzerland is an extremely expensive country in which to live. My late husband and I visited Thun to meet his sister and her husband. It was a last goodbye for him because he died soon after and they returned to Australia where they now live. but Thun is still his home town.

What stories she could tell, a real star, wonderful career. Who cares what she looks like, real bitchiness in those comments, she's still full of life and long may she be so.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 25-Nov-23 18:38:44

Johnson is history, no point harping on about him.

Iam64 Sat 25-Nov-23 18:46:35

spring is here - I often disagree with Fleurpepper on various subjects. She is more than capable of standing her own corner and I’m not leaping to her defence in responding to your post at 16.06 today.
Threads meander. Fleur mentioned Johnson’s vague connection with Joan Collins as a widely reported get together in Italy. As foreign secretary, Johnson was advised not to attend. He dud, as ever, exactly what he wanted to do and went. Lebedev (now lord lebedev - thank Johnson) owned the venture. Italian secret service intelligence was monitoring the villa at this time.
The next day, various British tourists saw him at an Italian airport, much the worse for wear. His friend Lebedev got a peerage.
Repeating these well established facts doesn’t mean I “hate’ Johnson. It means I’m concerned he appeared to put his own interests first when foreign Secretary , as he did when PM

Saying these things doesn’t mean I care anything about Corbyn, or thst my comments are tribal/party political. It means I want grown up politics

Apologies for getting political on a ‘light hearted ‘ thread.
Joan Collins isn’t my role model but I admire her determination and zest for life

Sparklefizz Sat 25-Nov-23 19:28:17

If Joan Collins wants to still look glamorous at her age, it seems her husband Percy likes that from his comments in the programme. She and Percy seem to have a contented relationship.

Yes, she has had work done but it's much better than the work done by young women in their 20s and 30s. Her lips are normal and her eyebrows for a start.

Her wigs are fabulous and really enhance her face.

She's lively and interesting and I enjoyed the programme.

Absolutely and totally irrelevant to this thread. There are many British citizens on this Forum who live abroad. But only one who gets called out for it, on each and every thread, time and time again. Just so bizarre.

But my DNA definitely has 8% Scottish- so there. We are indeed a very mixed bunch- and again, this is totally irrelevant.

Thank you Iam64 for confirming my concerns about Johnson and the Lebedevs are based on fact. As said, for me, and for many- Joan's take on what happened that week-end would be a lot more interesting than all the tittle tattle.

Fleurpepper Sat 25-Nov-23 21:00:31

Johnson is history, no point harping on about him.

Lebedev (blackmail) is still in the House of Lords, eg part of our Governement- and a true security risk. And the damage he has done lives on.

Callistemon21 Sat 25-Nov-23 21:08:42

Absolutely and totally irrelevant to this thread.

Well, it is releant if someone thought you were Scottish, living in Scotland.

If Annie1 thought I was Scottish, living in Scotland, then I'd correct that assumption quite happily.

I've never had my DNA taken for genealogical research purposes btw so I could have % Scottish DNA. 🙂
My DC have through DH.

We're all bitzers.
