When TV arrived in Scotland in 1952, I was 11 but well remember Andy Pandy and Muffin the Mule- neighbouring kids came round to watch them. That summer we became hooked on Wimbledon - the summer of 'Little Mo' Connolly and I still watch avidly every summer. My favourite in my early teens was 'Animal, Vegetable, Mineral', a programme in which archaeologists had to try to identify objects from museums or recent digs. I longed to be an archaeologist and once went on a dig during a University vacation, but, though still interested, I never did manage to follow it up...I suppose it's too late now! I can't speak for the youth of today, but I have happy memories of taking two of my GC round Roman remains in Provence and my 6-year-old DGS identifying the parts of a villa he'd learned about at school.
