Theresa May & Trump, why the negative slant ?

Am I alone in thinking that Reporters & Journalists seemed hell bent on reporting the meeting of DT & TM in a particularly negative way, despite the fact that both of them were obviously making positive efforts & remarks in a civilised & mature manner?

So true Starbird, the next few years are going to be at best Intersting at worst devastating.

Bridgeit Fri 13-Jul-18 22:24:20

Yes thats thankful very likely too NfkDumpling.

I think its very disturbing to see them holding hands ..not what I would expect of a world "leader"...and thats Mrs May I mean ..not the orange person with the floppy hair and foot in mouth disease

Mapleleaf Fri 13-Jul-18 23:23:34

Now then ladies, maybe that was a fake Trump, telling fake news! ????

Seriously, though, he's an odious man.

His behaviour with and towards TM has been dreadful. He makes highly critical comments about her as PM, says Boris would make a great PM, tries to further destabilise the Brexit process and - gets hold of her hand at every opportunity. In her position, away from the cameras, I'd have told him very clearly - do not attempt to hold my hand again, or I'll slap your hand away, no matter if the world's media are filming the incident.
He's patronised TM at every opportunity. As for keeping the 92 year old Queen waiting 15 minutes in 80 degrees, then stepping in front of her, walking so fast she couldn't keep up, had to step around him, during their walk along the parade - how dare he be so rude to an older woman, never mind one who just happens to be the Queen of the country he's a guest in.

May does not hold hands with him, he grabs her hand , she has dignity and wouldn’t make any public display , just as queenie didn’t show any outward display of annoyance , they have dignity, he is a disgrace to mankind.

Egged on by DH I reluctantly looked at some photographs online this morning and thought I caught a glimpse of a smile from her maj. It looked quite genuine too . Whether you despise Trump or not and it seems most do, I don’t think he or the First Lady should bow or curtesy to anyone . There again I don’t think anyone should .

Grandma70s Sat 14-Jul-18 09:22:41

Iam64 and Anniebach are spot on. I have never seen such bad manners from a public figure. I wouldn’t expect him to do a full bow to the Queen - after all, he think he’s much more important than she is - but a slight inclination of the head would have been polite. He is just a lout, a yob.

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 09:31:52

Why is any bow of any kind necessary Grandma70’s?

Iam64 Sat 14-Jul-18 09:52:17

gillybob, it isn't 'necessary' for a US president to bow to the monarch because of our shared history,ie their independence.
However - that issue doesn't alter the act he's an ignoramus who behaved like the narcissistic bully he is by walking in front of a 92 year old woman etc.

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 09:56:07

Well I haven’t seen the proper live coverage ( only silly speeded up online clips) so can’t comment on the “walking in front” although I’m not sure whether it matters to be honest , maybe he wasn’t quite sure where to be ? Like when you walk into someone and end up almost dancing ? She is only another human you know .

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 09:56:35

Meant to add that it isn’t necessary for anyone to bow to anyone .

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 10:07:38

Walking in front of a woman in her nineties ? I think it matters but i abhor bad manners so it would matter to me

oldbatty Sat 14-Jul-18 10:15:38

I think we are astute enough to see the difference between somebody who doesnt know where he is going and somebody who is ignorant.

People in power are briefed on the details, if they care to listen .

trisher Sat 14-Jul-18 10:22:50

I'd be worried if the reorting wasn't negative. I am worried by the submissive attitude of TM. She should have found a way of removing her hand from his, but of course she wants trade deals with him. The hand holding indicates that she will be prepared to do any sort of a deal with him. Make way for chlorinated chicken and watch out for the sale of the profitable bits of the NHS.

Anniebach Sat 14-Jul-18 10:33:38

When someone grabs your hand in front of the press pulling your hand away would be impolite, in Private it doesn’t matter

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 10:34:42

I find it unbelievable that people really think that her maj and the firm are their betters . That anyone should bow and scrape when they meet her, walk a pace or 2 behind ( but never touch mind you that would get you sent to the tower ). I repeat I haven’t seen the actual footage just a silly speeded up version on line . Did he deliberately try to trip her up ? Now that would be nasty .

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 10:35:45

I agree pulling your hand away in front of the world press would be very rude . TM is better than that .

Elegran Sat 14-Jul-18 10:54:38

Ignoring the office which HM represents for the moment, it doesn't show a lot of humanity, or basic good manners, to keep a punctual (and punctilious) old lady standing in the hot sun waiting for you, block her path so that she has to scuttle around to walk beside you and then hustle her along at the speed of your own longer, younger legs.

The delay in appearing was probably tactical - keep her waiting and show that he is more important. Stopping stock still in front of her probably because he expected to "review the troops" on his own (most important again) but why he strode along God knows - trying to shake her off and leave her behind?

Elegran Sat 14-Jul-18 10:56:44

Did he do that to his old Scottish mother? Perhaps he wore her out to an early grave.

oldbatty Sat 14-Jul-18 11:15:22

gillybob, I actually do believe that the Queen is " my better". She has done a magnificent job.

As a mark of respect I would do what I had been told to, whatever the protocol was.

That doesn't mean I am a fan of the royals, particularly some of them who waste money and do little.

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 11:17:49

Then I’m sorry for you oldbatty I really am .

oldbatty Sat 14-Jul-18 11:18:50

well OK fair enough.

gillybob Sat 14-Jul-18 11:23:43

I’ve only just watched the actual footage Elegran and honestly can’t see what did did so horribly wrong . Ok so they got a bit wrong footed to start with but that’s it ! Has anyone even stopped to think that the reason he might’ve been late could be because of all the protesters, half of whom probably don't know what is they are protesting about .

Have you ( not you personally Elegran) ever been a few minutes late for something despite your best efforts not to be ? I know I have.
