My husband refuses to believe in coronavirus

I am finding it difficult to tolerate my husband's continual assertion that coronavirus is not real and is, in fact, a tool used by governments and big pharma companies to control us. He believes that Bill Gates is behind it all. Any reasonable discussion is off limits and he is now trying to convince me that I shouldn't have the vaccine when it arrives. Not sure how to deal with this.

I’ve been saying for months now that long COVID reminds me of ME. I had a dear friend that suffered from it and through him I met several people that also had it and everything they told me about their symptoms were so similar to long COVID.

how many long-flu sufferers do we hear about.

Actually my husband and I caught a virus in 1989 which we were told was 'flu. He got better, I never did, and developed M.E. All the same symptoms as Long Covid. I have not been able to work since, was bedridden for 2 years, I still go back to bed during the day 31 years later, had to give up all the sports I used to do, spend every day pacing myself.

Those of us with M.E. are hoping that more research will be done now that Long Covid has materialised in the hope that it will help us too.

I read an article online that "suggested" that the "deniers" had certain personality traits.More likely to have always had issues with rules and authority, smoke weed, come from dysfunctional backgrounds. The 3 people I know that are non believers are all of the above and more! I've deleted them on social media, one being my sister in law.I just dont understand their mindset. How you keep it together living with your husbands opinion deserves a medal. It infuriates me how blind they are...

Tillybelle - we are in the East Midlands, tier 3 prior to lockdown. Her regular ward is more than busy atm but I'm so proud of her - does what she is paid for but always goes the extra mile too smile

Tillybelle Thu 12-Nov-20 21:43:49

BladeAnnie. Is that in one of the regions which are hard hit at the moment? I do admire her. I have to say my neighbour was nursing during the flu epidemic of (my brain is tired was it 2017?) when our hospital had two refrigerated lorries making quite a noise outside for the overflow of bodies. My friend said it was so terrible she didn't think she could do it again. The complications of pneumonia I think were very bad.
I remember that and the local news showing these refrigerated lorries so vividly so when we were in Lockdown first time I was getting scared of seeing that dreadful picture again. Fortunately it never happened.
The stories that some wards are rushed off their feet, which we hear here and I do not doubt at all, are a great contrast to some areas where the staff are whistle blowing about how they have nothing to do and even though it is the busy season they have empty beds.

Tillybelle Thu 12-Nov-20 21:34:19

welbeck. They get called M.E., Fibromyalgia, Postviral Fatigue, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and some get brushed off until a long time has passed and then they may get to see a Neurologist and be diagnosed with M.E.
The symptoms of M.E. are so similar to Long Covid. Especially if, like me you have both M.E. and Fibromyalgia.

Tillybelle Thu 12-Nov-20 21:25:38

Kryptonite. I think they have changed the nasal swab from doing a deep nasal pharyngeal one (which I would only allow an ENT Dr or Neurologist to do and never in a Car Park!) to a 1-2cms inside the nostril from what I read on advice to Carers online. It was the only thing I could find though.
Thank you for your kind words.
I do hope you are keeping well and your Mother too.
The people I know when they go out do what everyone does I assume because they think like me that to not wear a mask (actually I am exempt but...) and to get near people is just upsetting to people now that everyone is so scared of catching this and has been conditioned to be afraid of other people. It is a huge piece of fear conditioning. But what can one do. <ost of my group saw the kind of psychological tricks that were going on very early and a paper was leaked to us early on from the Govt's little group who concentrate on Psychological methods of changing public behaviour without the public being aware. It was hardly subtle and very reminiscent of the Nazis. Just scare everyone to bits. They wanted people off the streets. They scared people to death and got what they wanted, I put the death statistics up a while ago. Ot's really strange how people cannot see that when Covid had to scare us about death, suddenly the number of deaths they announced for Covid matched the number of deaths that ran short this year on flu and pneumonia compares with the 5yr average. So blatantly obvious. They have lied for years - governments, in the UK always supported by the BBC. The "fact check" affairs only appeared when Covid lies had to be held up. I stopped believing the press and BBC and Govt announcements and checked things by reading from lots of different sources and countries. How many people know about the Zinoviev letter in 1924 which caused a landslide victory for the Conservatives? It came to light on 4th Feb 1999 which meant my Dad died not knowing it was not true. www.theguardian.com/politics/1999/feb/04/uk.politicalnews6
The most recent scientist I have heard interviewed is the one I mentioned above. I'll try and leave you a few to see in your own time they are all sensible not crazy people like you'd think from comments here. Try not to worry yourself, my love. Do the sensible tings. Eat as well as you can. Have vitamin D and zinc and vitamin C people tell me.

I'm sure you don't need any more.

Please, everybody, try not to get worried. Just do the things they ask, eat well and look after yourselves. Please don't fall out over differences of opinion over it all. I think the govt has to be responsible a bit for this as it has been very contradictory in the things it has told us and has hardly made things easy to understand. We'll get through. It can't go on for ever. But we may have to speak out one day for the sake of the children's education. Just see how things go for now.

My daughter is a sister normally working on an elderly medical ward where she has end of life care to deal with on a frequent basis. Last week she had to take charge of a covid ward and she said it was the worst shift she had worked since qualifying as a nurse. She wishes all the doubters and disbelievers could see what she saw. And this is from an experienced healthcare professional used to end of life care

grump - your contribution made me laugh, so thanks for that

nightwriter started this thread asking for advice on how to deal with her husband's distorted belief system around the covid virus. I hope she found some suggestions useful. I do hope she dismissed the overly long, over detailed nonsense from people who should possibly be wearing tin foil hats.

Hear, hear Iam64

nightwriter has to find a way of dealing with a close relative's conspiracy theories. The rest of us have the luxury of ignoring anything daft we see on forums that we believe to be conspiracy theories, that way we don't help them spread or give them any more credence than they deserve.

This is a hint.

I don't know which "fact check". you used. They are notoriously mendacious, being mouthpieces of the people running this show.

The most recent research shows that the virus is less deadly than flu. It has had a lower death rate than flu most of the year using the Govt's own figures. The govt has been struggling to find ways to boost the death figures for it so as to use its control measures.

For current figures see youtu.be/ZnpnBYgGARE where he mentions it near the beginning. Lockdowns are killing more people round the world than lives they claim to save. There will be court cases. In India people are starving to death. It is inhuman.

The numbers of deaths from this coronavirus are 5 out of 10,000 for people under 70yrs old. At that figure you will not need a vaccine.

It’s a difficult one. My older brother became caught up in a cult religion when he was very depressed and they seemed to offer him hope and comfort. Fortunately he did get proper medical attention and cut contact with them before he’d gone too deep.

Is your husband in touch with other conspiracy theorists nightwriter? I wonder if someone is feeding his obsession. I would give non-committal answers to his attempts to convert you and carry on protecting yourself against this virus.

Kryptonite Thu 12-Nov-20 20:33:25

I always squirm when I see the nasal swab done on TV. Now I know why! Do they have to go up so far? Thank you for your posts, Tillybelle. I appreciate all you say and taking the time to support those who question. I can never forget the care home scandal. My 93 year old mother thought this was done deliberately to eradicate old people. She's not in a care home, but earlier this year was in hospital and horrified to be on a ward which several friends never came out of. It was ward G, the 'God ward' she called it. She told the staff a out this! I agree that Matt Hancock seems clueless. He's got a difficult job of course, but doesn't inspire confidence. To cancel all those cancer treatments, for example, was totally wrong and unforgivable. I remember one sufferer saying, "I hope I live long enough to die of cancer and not Covid". I'm glad my own treatment was finished before this all started. Do people break the Covid rules on distancing, masks etc because they believe the theories? Hopefully not. Are all those separated from loved ones being duped? I miss my grandchild while the other grandparents break the rules and see them regularly. As you say, people usually believe things because they want to. My family members get almost aggressive when they start and tie me up in knots when I respond. That is off putting to say the least and quite depressing. No wonder people get upset. Hoping to look at some of your references, nevertheless. Most of us just want to be good and have a quiet life, but perhaps that is burying our heads in the sand.

Ok ZZzzzzzzzzz

The claim that Covid is less deadly than seasonal flu is a load of rubbish. Again it's been fact-checked and it's just tosh.

growstuff Thu 12-Nov-20 20:29:01

I've been wondering that too varian. Presumably many of the most vulnerable have been locked up in their care homes since March and have been reasonably well protected, so I would imagine that many of the new deaths are younger people. The figures are only published every month.

Not that it matters how old or vulnerable somebody is. Any unnecessary death is still a lost life.

varian Thu 12-Nov-20 20:18:44

I think it likely that many of these 563 poor folk were under 70 and I think it very unlikely that the same number of people died of seasonal flu yesterday.

For goodness sake, stop swallowing the nonsense of the conspiracy theorists.

growstuff Thu 12-Nov-20 20:13:55

563 deaths have been reported today. I expect they're all fake news. I bet the relatives wish it was all a big scam.

Iam64 Thu 12-Nov-20 19:56:43

Lucca - confession time. I read the first few lines and concluded I was in conspiracy central, so wasted no more time.
I expect the long posters to return and tell me I can't possibly have reached a considered opinion. Yes I did.

Lucca Thu 12-Nov-20 19:54:57

Especially when I see a line like this “ The truth is this virus is no more deadly than a seasonal flu. Especially for <70s. ”
That honestly infuriates me

Lucca Thu 12-Nov-20 19:53:23

I feel very guilty that I simply don’t read spectacularly long comments ........

Well I really do appreciate you reading it, though. Really! Many thanks! I'd be the first to say it's too long - sorry ! It would put me off....

Sometimes it's so difficult to get something across without it sounding like an attack on the person I quoted. I appreciated her point of view and thought it showed how kind she is. I simply couldn't match it to anybody I know or match the CT descriptions here to the people I know who are so worried we are being led to the downfall of civilisation. I am talking about beautiful highly educated spiritual and very intelligent people who have spent so many years as Doctors, doing research learning, caring...

There is a wonderful man on Triggernometry which is a lovely interview program on YT where the two interviewers allow the Speaker to speak. They let the speaker speak and don't interrupt. Please listen to him. Please. He is lovely. So kind and gentle and wise. Even my background education in Neuropsychology tells me he's right because I worked in the hospital where I studied and I learned so much.

There are so many Professors, Doctors with distinguished careers Scientists who really do know about stats Economists, you know what I'm saying, all worried about what is happening to us. I am part of a group now of academics and medics who are truly concerned about some decisions being made and things happening. But more people are beginning to understand.

The truth is this virus is no more deadly than a seasonal flu. Especially for <70s.

See youtu.be/ZnpnBYgGARE note the recent research paper he talks about.

Please watch the above

growstuff Thu 12-Nov-20 18:51:14

I could go on.

Please don't!
