Anyone watching live? Wow, just wow.

Kali2 Wed 26-May-21 12:52:21

Cummings said this morning 'Trump gazumped us on PPE'

isn't it exactly what Johnson did with the vaccines?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-May-21 12:54:58

It matters not how academic Cummings is, nor how furious he is. What matters is the veracity of his evidence.

To dismiss Cummings out of hand would be both foolish, and to overlook potential evidence relating to our government’s chaotic and incompetence governance.

The nightmare is that we have to live with the government for another 3 or so years.

I recall it being that a buyer had been accepted then dropped for a buyer who stepped in with a higher offer. And it started, and spread like wildfire, in the 70s.

The astounding and alarming thing is that there is clear evidence that there is still chaotic decisions being made. Just this week a number of Local Authorities found out about an apparent lockdown almost by default, only for this to be reversed today.

Greeneyedgirl Wed 26-May-21 13:21:52

This just reinforces what a self seeking and incompetent lot we have running the country. Cummings, Johnson, there’s nothing to choose between them. So depressing because as Whitewave says we have to live with government for another 3 or so years.

Boris called Covid ‘Kung Flu’ and wanted to be infected with it live on TV because he thought it wasn’t ‘real’ and then went on to say ‘well it’s only killing 80 year olds’!! Then there’s the ‘bodies’ piled high’ comment. What more is there to say ? We’d better pray that there’s some effective opposition by the time the next general election rolls around !!

Busy this morning but listening to a little wonder if his recollections might be different if he hadn’t have been sacked

yup.

Most definitely his views would have been different. The whole thing smacks of revenge.

MayBee70 Wed 26-May-21 13:29:48

Of course it smacks of revenge. But that doesn’t mean that what he’s saying is untrue.

Alegrias1 Wed 26-May-21 13:31:19

IMO it doesn't matter if its revenge or not. If what he is saying is true then there has to be action. And as I said above, he is only saying what a lot of us could see was the case over the last 18 months.

No 10 was in chaos, the PM made terrible decisions.

No s*** Sherlock.

It would be astounding if there isn’t a huge element of revenge in Cummings testimony.

But ask yourself - is it true!

That is what is important, not motivation etc.

No good shooting the messenger - that doesn’t make sense.

Listen to the message!

You really believe all this vengeful little man is spouting. Don’t forget he was in the thick of it, never said a dickie bird, if true nothing to stop him resigning there and then, and telling all. Hope he is asked why he didn’t if he was so appalled.

More cross posts?

Alegrias1 Wed 26-May-21 13:35:02

Do you think the things he is saying aren't true Lin52?

Do you think No 10 was completely on top of the situation? Do you think Hancock had his finger on the pulse and everything was under control? Do you think Test and Trace has been a success?

vegansrock Wed 26-May-21 14:10:47

Well we know the response of the government was flawed, but Cummings was part of it, and as such earns little or no respect. Is he saying anything we didn’t already know?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-May-21 14:10:57

Bearing in mind that Johnson is not above arranging people that have annoyed him to be beaten up, I wouldn’t like to be in Cummings shoes ?

Probably not, but he is providing further evidence and confirmation to what we already know.

@Whitewavemark2. A close relative lives not far from Bolton and he says that there wasn’t a word said about travelling in and out of the area until yesterday and now the council is leaving it up to people’s common sense and discretion. There are pop up vaccination centres everywhere, but nothing much has changed since the rules eased on 17 May - the only difference is a ban on mixing indoors. Seemingly they’re putting their faith in the vaccine keeping things under control.

Pammie1 Wed 26-May-21 14:26:19

@Lin52. He might be vengeful but how do we know he’s lying ? And there has been some corroboration of some of the things Boris has said - not just from Cummings.

ayse Wed 26-May-21 14:30:10

“The crisis was lions led by donkeys” says Cummings and he was one of them!

I agree, it’s all about revenge. I’ll bet he won’t spill all the beans today but will bide his time until another suitable moment presents itself.

The government and Cummings are all as bad as each other and we are all suffering the results. Why do we no longer have elder statespeople with moderate and realistic propositions?

IMO we need PR for a more considered approach and coalition government where groups work together. This is a shambles.

It seems to me that this sort of decision making will be something that we have learned to expect from this chaos.

As Cummings said and we saw with our own eyes time after time decisions are made, communicated to the public and then Johnson announced a u-turn.

Every single one of us can give examples.

Urmstongran Wed 26-May-21 14:36:13

Hancock is toast after this. Or ought to be he’s such a lightweight.
Plus Public Health England is not fit for purpose.

A huge overhaul is sorely needed.
The behemoth of the NHS too.

Urmstongran Wed 26-May-21 14:43:38

The comments I heard Cummings make this morning about 'gain of function' I thought were the most eye opening.

Gain of function (being the experimenting with pathogens (virus) to see how to make them multiply and spread) was a concern raised by many in 2019 and this topic was discussed in UK gov in the early days of pandemic.

100% clear 'they' knew the virus came out of the Chinese lab and Western countries had involvement.

No wonder they panicked and could come up with vaccines so quickly and at same time covered up the reality of it. Scared of public reaction if everyone knew the truth of what they had done!

Urmstongran Wed 26-May-21 14:46:55

When you think about it - no wonder the Wuhan wet markets opened so quickly again in the New Year. Those ‘in the know’ knew it hadn’t come from pangolins! They were selling them again soon enough, remember?

Scary stuff.

Trump called it out. The ‘Chinah Virus’.

The WHO are worse than useless. They know.
