Your idea of stable??

Javid said this week that the infection rates are stable, bit up, bit down. In fact it seems that management means just ignore it and it will go away. Why are the public so accepting? It's pretty much a scandal, hundreds of people dying each week and yet it's pretty much ignored. This article highlights some pretty horrendous facts

Wales will be about 7-8,000 I would guess because they report two days every Monday, as they don’t report on Saturday - so it will be Saturday and Sundays figures today.

Hopefully this half term week here in England will be a circuit breaker. Numbers do seem to be coming down. 33% less in Trafford than 2 weeks ago when the figures were super high.

Urmstongran Mon 25-Oct-21 18:52:08

Still too high though.
This from the Manchester Evening News:

“Flixton and Moorside in Trafford, where the infection rate was above a thousand in recent weeks, has dropped to 829.5 per 100,000 people.”

I hope half-term works some magic.
Our booster doses are due in a fortnight.

That’s really high Urmstongran our postcode is under 400 per 100,000, be careful X

Our postcode, in a very rural part of SW England, has a current covid rate of more than 1200 per 100,000. Obviously these are only confirmed tests. The true rate must be considerably higher.

Thank you GG13.

It’s scary isn’t it? I think when it’s sunny and the figures go down we all start to hope it’s easing off and we start to feel reassured.

Covid doesn’t like sunny warm weather. But the autumn and winter will be a big test won’t it?

I listened to this medical expert Professor Carl Heneghan, Director of U of Oxford Centre for Evidence- Based Medicine, rather than what journalists pick and choose to write. Your can find it on youtu.be/Hl52KPteESU.

All I can say is I’ve had a lousy day and the news that numbers are (hopefully) dropping is a bit of a pick up for me.

Just be aware that Carl Heneghan picks and chooses what to write too. Most scientists who actually work with viruses and doctors on the frontline in hospitals disagree profoundly with what he writes. He has a specific agenda (related to herd immunity) and chooses his evidence to fit it.

Apart from the roll out of vaccines to children and half term, it's possible the general decrease is the result of people being less complacent because they've been panicked. Just carry on being careful.

We are seeing a slight rise here in France. It is now 47 per 100,000 for the whole country and 37 where we live. Interestingly the biggest increase is in the 0-9 age group and the 30-39s who are presumably the vaccinated parents of the little ones.
I know someone will be along to say the UK tests more, but over the past months, UK tests have been twice as high as France and UK (overall) infections ten times as high.
You can see the success of the vaccinations on the 12-18 group in the low numbers there.

nanna8, there has to be a sensible middle road between isolation - and our peculiar 'it's all over' behaviour. Mask wearing and social distancing should still be encouraged, wherever possible.

Dorsetcupcake61, the 'government who cares little for the vulnerable' is spot on. In fact, I'd take it further. Someone, somewhere, is gleefully calculating the 'savings' in pension and disability payments.

It all comes down to money, after all. Installing good ventilation systems in schools, discouraging socialising, travel and Christmas get togethers - never - what about the economy?

The companies are called Atos and Capita! Bizarrely Atos sponsors the Paralympics which is disgusting!!
