Venice and the river Po, a virtual cruise

Kate1949 Wed 17-Aug-22 18:56:03

MissA. One year our hotel in Venice gave us a free water taxi ride to Murano. We were thrilled. However the driver took us straight to a glass works where we were obviously expected to buy some glass. We didn't. It was SO expensive. However the shop had some incredible glass works of art and we saw a glass blowing demonstration and then sneaked out.

Ah, yes, that used to happen all the time in Marrakesh.

You'd think you were going to one place, whilst they were planning a days itinerary! smile

I don't have ambitions to really learn Italian but I'm giving it a go.

Lei è una donna
She is a woman

FarNorth Thu 18-Aug-22 08:28:59

Sorry, that sounds a bit grudging - I meant I'm happy to dabble with Italian while on the cruise.

Buongiorno.

Today we are travelling overland from Bologna to Modena.

Later today we are due to return to our cruise ship Il delfino gentile, which is moored at Polesella.

The Enzo Ferrari muséum looks interesting.

Yes, thank you.

I have now completed the fourth lesson of the Duolingo Italain course.

Well, not quite totally, as it asked me to turn on my microphone to test my speaking, but I did not do that. I think it asked me an alternative question.

This lesson was the first lesson of Basics 2.

I read the TIPS for Basics 2 first.

Voi siete donne, io sono un uomo.

You are women, I am a man.

I have used the plural of donna.

FarNorth Thu 18-Aug-22 23:12:35

Io bevo = I drink smile

Il delfino gentile is still moored at Polesella. Today there is an overland coach trip aboard L'aquila cortese to Padua.

It's very quiet here.

Io leggo un libro= I read a book

StarDreamer Sat 20-Aug-22 12:18:52

Yes, perhaps some people are away on a real holiday.

I did not do a Duolingo lesson in Italian yesterday.

It would have been the second lesson of Basics 2.

I have now completed it today.

Le donne bevono l'acqua.

The women drink the water.

StarDreamer Sat 20-Aug-22 14:27:37

I have now completed the third lesson of Basics 2 of the Duolingo course. So I am now up to date at a rate of one Duolingo learning lesson each day.

Gli uomini leggono i libri.

The men read the books.

FarNorth Sat 20-Aug-22 23:26:17

I'm not as organised as you SD with the learning .

Buonanotte = Goodnight

MissAdventure Mon 22-Aug-22 07:55:12

Aha!
It took a while, but I found you. smile
I've not forgotten, and I have gone mad and spent some of my benefit money on something to soak my poor old feet in!!! (Last of the big spenders)

I've not been so well for a while, though.
I'm hoping to drum up some energy to catch up with our trips, but again, feeling awful again today.

FarNorth Mon 22-Aug-22 08:01:45

I'm really sorry to hear that MissAdventure. It's good to have you back, though.
We're on land just now, walking around, so the footbath could come in useful.

MissAdventure Mon 22-Aug-22 08:09:01

I like the walking ones; makes me feel I'm there.

Glorianny Mon 22-Aug-22 11:16:18

Just thought I would drop in and make a suggestion- I'm a bit weird but I love graveyards and Venice has a whole island. You take the vaporetto to it. Ezra Pound, Stravinski and Diaghilev are buried there. It's a lovely place for a peaceful walk.
(Sorry if some think it's a bit morbid)

MissAdventure Mon 22-Aug-22 11:37:48

Ooh I like a graveyard myself.
The way I feel, I wonder if it'll be worth me going back to the cruise! grin

Glorianny Mon 22-Aug-22 11:49:33

So sorry Miss Adventure, hope you feel better soon. Meanwhile would you like a couple of hunky matelots to assist you on any shore trips?
I did think when I was there that it would be a very peaceful place to be buried in. The Venetians visit on November 1st and 2nd, lay flowers and picnic.

MissAdventure Mon 22-Aug-22 11:51:44

I'd like to eat me picnic before I get laid to rest, if it's all the same to you. smile
Me and my daughter could never resist a graveyard.
We spent many an hour wandering around them.
