I’m a pear !

I have returned to my own healthy eating plan as I need to lose a stone. I am pear shaped with a small bust, reasonable waist and overlarge hips.

On reading the ever sensible Dr Scurr in the DM this morning I discovered a healthy waist size is 31 ins for women and 37 ins for men. I rather smugly measured myself expecting a pat on the back only to find I am 5 ins over the recommended size ?

Onward and upward or preferably downward.

Thanks for your encouragement GrannyIris - to give everyone a laugh, a couple of years ago I was diagnosed with an extremely large/atonic bladder, so since then have had to self catheterise 3 or 4 times a day. The nurse told me that a pint weighs over a pound so I went away thinking I would reach my ideal weight by the end of the week grinlosing 3 or 4 pounds a day haha grin
Obviously it didn't work that way but I must admit, when I weigh first thing on Sunday morning it is before my morning cups of tea and I always catheterise before as well! Every little helps!
Which thread are you referring to about that records monthly gains/losses? Every bit of encouragement helps!

Lost half a pound this week....happy with that...I'm eating...and drinking well so if I can happily chip away with half to a pound a week I'm happy...hope you all have had a good week

Well done girls. I agree about losing weight bit by bit. I did my monthly weigh in this morning and I have lost 1 and almost half pounds. I think I am almost in the normal BMI range, unbelievable.

Hello again and well done to all.
I went out today and bought some new tops, some 3 sizes down and some 2, depending on the shop, yippee.
Does anyone else have my problem though - the tops of my arms still seem to be bigger in relation to the rest of me, so although my new things fit everywhere else they are tight on the arms.
Any suggestions on how to trim them down?

Well, I never got weighed last week as away in Dorset for a lovely week with the family.....so, got weighed today, I put on 2 and a half pounds.....I got to say I was pleased with that as I thought it would be a lot worse....how's everyone else doing?

I've got my two grandsons staying 8 and 6 and I hardly have time to breathe let alone eat. They leave on Saturday so had better have a weigh in, then I have 3 days at home before I go to Dorset where a few full English breakfast will be consumed. So I will 'fess up on my return.

We are nearing our one year birthday of Onward and Downward, quite a special day.

Keep going girls.

Well, as expected over Easter ...up 2 and a half again...no excuses...so that's 5 lbs put on in 3 weeks....easily done......am doing the SP eating plan for 7 days now, see if I can knock offthose extra pounds....
Hope your having a lovely time in Dorset nankate, what part are you visiting?

NanKate, a Fitbit is simply a device for measuring how many steps you take. Initially people tend to use 10,000 steps as a target but this is a purely arbitrary amount and can be de motivating as you have to walk a very long way to clock up 10,000 steps.
A much better idea is to walk as far as you are comfortable with then gradually increase this on a daily basis. So perhaps the first day you reach 5,000 steps. Anything over 5,000 the next day is a cause to celebrate, whether it is 6,000 or 5,010. You should gradually get fitter and feel good about your achievements.
My OH turned our 10,000 daily steps into a chore which is how I hit on this more motivational technique. Try it.

Anyone else out there been turned off of exercise by unrealistic targets?

Thanks for the useful info Esspee I agree about the importance of keeping moving. I have recently done an online course called Ageing well - avoiding falls. The main advice is to keep walking.

Shirley you have got the right idea about tackling the small weight gain quickly, it’s all to easy to let things slide. We are in beautiful Dorset now and from our fab B and B (5th visit) we can see Corfe Castle a couple of miles away. Off to Dorchester today.

At least you have a recognised shape. I used to be hourglass but I'm now more of a B with big boobs and a large stomach, partially thanks to 3 big babies, and no bum. I've also been wondering about this measurement. I suspect it's based on a 5'4 woman as that is the average height in the UK

How is everyone getting on ?

I will weigh myself tomorrow morning and see what damage 4 cooked breakfasts, two ice creams, plus 2 cocktails and various nice main meals have done to me this holiday. I have avoided puddings bar a few mouthfuls of DH’s sponge pud the other night.

Our 1st anniversary is coming up on 8 May.

I have been very strict this week...stuck rigidly to my slimming world SP plan....not a drop of alcohol passed my lips at the weekend....get weighed on Wednesday...we shall see if its been worth it or not lol.....I couldnt keep up SP all the time though....

Hello again everyone. Been a while and I've put some lumber back on, I can feel it in my fat belly! I suddenly really needed to eat potatoes and bread and sadly gave in. Didn't have any Easter eggs as I'm vegan and although they can be bought I said no, but I've tucked into loads of other "goodies" .

I have a medical during the last week in May so I'm getting back on it, although it did seem easier when I started than it does now.
I HAD lost 42lbs but I know its more likely to be a loss of 35lbs now. I'm not weighing myself for a couple of weeks as I might give up if its even worse than that!

Easy to put on, so blooming hard to lose!

Poor you Dontask. I think keeping going with weight loss is not an easy thing to do, but getting to a healthy weight that suits you will be well worth it.

Recently I had a real yearning for some particular food (it must have been chocolate) I decided to wait 15 minutes and if I was still desperate I would have it and NOT feel guilty. 15 mins later the craving had gone.

Keep going folks, with an occasional blip, we are all human.

Don't mean to gloat but me sticking to Slimming world SP rigidly has paid off....7 and a half pounds i shed this week.....I was shocked , well pleased.....what i needed to give me a spurt...

I hadn't put any weight on over the short holiday break so that is a thumbs up for me.

Well, I'm most out...put on a half a pound yet I stuck rigidly to plan...my son said it's probably muscle as I have started spinning....I hope that's the case, I was right fed up. I said their scales were wrong at SW lol....I nearly swore I was so sure I'd of lost a good few pounds ...I now got new scales so I can keep tabs in the week, don't want to let that happen again....

Hello again everyone.

I was going to wait until my medical at the end of the month to be weighed, but I had to see GP yesterday and jumped on the scales. Yipppeee I've lost a total of 46lbs in 4 months smile.

I lost 3kg on the low carb high fat but have stuck on my present weight for the past two weeks. Doesn't seem as though I will lose any more on this regime I seem to be in maintenance mode but need to lose at least 3 more kg, Any suggestions to kick start or doesn't this diet work for some people?
