How much does your Green Waste Collection cost?

£50 by direct debit and £55 if not collected every two weeks throughout the year.

We have a brown wheelie bin for garden waste. £46 for 20 collections throughout the year.

Garden waste charging began last year, it had been feee until then. . £50 per annum for a wheelie bin or three reusable bags to be collected fortnightly other than in December, January and February when collections are monthly. Price for returners reduced to £40 for this year because of a number of covid triggered missed collections.

Hmm, looks as if the service provided in my area, Stockport Council, is very good value for money! However, I think the green bin collections are regularly debated at council meetings and alternative provision such as only having the collection every two weeks rather than weekly as now, or having an extra charge for those who want a collection might well be introduced.

As all our food waste also goes in the green garden waste bin there is always a huge outcry at the prospect of only fortnightly collections, especially in the summer months.

I actually have two green bin, the second one cost me £15 I think but is collected weekly at no extra cost if I put it out. It’s only used a couple of times a year though after my gardening service has done the pruning!

Our local authority outsources all waste collection. The current company is certainly better than the last.

£45 annually if subscribed for a fortnightly collection, but the service is so much in demand that they haven’t taken on new customers for a long time. We do have plastics, paper, glass, tins, shoes, textiles and food waste collected weekly for “free” though, each in a separate container.

Our garden waste goes on the allotment compost.

Oh, and cardboard and aluminium foil - we’ve a lot of bags and boxes!

£42 a year per brown bin here in West Northants, collected fortnightly - and as I have a large garden I need two bins, so that makes it £84 per year.

I think it's about £50 for 20 collections. However my bin collectors have just finished a 6 week strike and the new annual charge is due in July. The council has gone quiet about collecting the new fees so I hope they are extending this year's payment period.

It’s free fortnightly but then our council rates are very high so we are actually paying for it indirectly.We get precious little else for our rates.

I pay 3.40 per bin which is collected fortnightly. If I don't need a collection in winter months I still pay each fortnight and the credits are used in summer when I need more collections

Ours costs £40 per year. Emptied fortnightly except for a very few weeks in winter. A second bin can be included at a slightly cheaper rate.
Blue bin is for cycling , paper, some plastics, and grey bin for landfill. Collected alternately. Glass has to be taken to containers.

In Gateshead - £35 pa. Collected every 2 weeks from April to October.

We don't have a food waste collection in Northumberland either Fennel. My DD lived in Scotland for 6 years and misses the food waste collection they had there.

In my bit of Norfolk I think I paid £58 something this year. Brown bin taking all garden waste (and the occasional dead bird or goldfish - but don't tell them) once a fortnight all year. I feel cheated if I can't fill it to the brim with stuff which will take too long to compost.

We're still waiting for our food waste bin which I was told 15 years ago was being "rolled out" across the district. I probably shan't use it much as we have compost heaps and the jackdaws like chicken skins etc, so it'd only be for bones.

It was £36 a year then it went up to £40 and now it’s £45. I am envious that people do get it included in their council tax, I think everybody should…..?

However not been picked up for last 4 weeks, despite putting in complaints. No idea now when they are due to pick up, for the last few months it's hit and miss when they pitch up.

All are free, as are two special uplifts per annum for big items. There was talk of charging for the garden uplift but the council decided against it.

Our council charge £35 for a normal siz d wheelie bin, but I stopped paying because it's hit and miss whether they bother collecting and they don't allow us to put our rabbit muck in it (shavings and rabbit poo when we clean out). We have allotments near me and some of the men there come and take it, they love the rabbit poo because it's good for growing when it's composted.

Free every other week and includes food waste.
