All ready for business...pull up a chair smile

Elrel Wed 15-Feb-17 11:44:57

I'm house sitting, for 10 days warm air blowers (looking like the NuNu from Teletubbies) have been drying the area under a floor. At first I found the noise irritating but must have gradually become accustomed to it. They have just been taken away and it's so quiet, even too quiet!
I guess I'm never satisfied!!

Izabella Wed 15-Feb-17 12:15:29

Well it feels as if this new kitchen extension is sunnier today. Anyway I will pop back later as the optician has just rung to say a new unchipped and unscratched lense is now here waiting to be fitted. Hurrah! It's been like staring through a tangle of barbed wire since "the accident"

I will pop the kettle on when I get back

soop Wed 15-Feb-17 14:13:00

Elrel Is it a newly constructed house or have there been problems with flooding? I'm trying to imagine the irritating sounds that you've lived with. We have a fan in our bathroom. Whenever there's a gale blowing outside, there is a constant clacking noise that drives me bonkers. Especially at night.

wot I'm sending you a virtual (hug)

NanaandGrampy I enjoy hearing about the special treats you arrange for your grandchildren. In a way, it makes me feel sad. Sad that, as a child, I never once had a friend home to tea, or play indoors, and certainly not to spend the night.

Bellanonna Wed 15-Feb-17 14:30:13

I don't think we had sleepovers back then, though, soop

soop Wed 15-Feb-17 14:31:04

Maw That card...grin
Your six year old grandson sounds delightful. His diplomacy and good manners are worthy of a reward.

Greyduster It seems that you also deserve a reward for your diplomacy. It's possible that the other granny wishes to "build bridges". Turning up unannounced as she did, took courage. It would be nice to think that she'll feel more comfortable the next time she visits.

Jud It's very thoughtful of you to update us lot as often as you do. flowers

The ironing session was hard work. Not only a laundry basket piled high with stuff, but the washing machine to empty and pop the contents into the dryer for 40 mins...after which...more ironing. I'm jiggered.

soop Wed 15-Feb-17 14:32:54

Bellanonna True. Although one friend of mine did stay over with another friend on special occasions. I so wanted to be included.

kittylester Wed 15-Feb-17 14:41:06

Any tea going? The people in the other half of our house are having something done in their kitchen, which adjoins ours, which seems to involve lots of perpetual 'tap tap tap'. I just wish they'd pigging well give what ever it is a dirty great whack and put us out of our misery. Especially as DH keeps standing looking at the wall and saying things like 'Well, I CAN'T imagine what he's up to' and 'I think he's chipping the kitchen tiles off'. Don't know which is worse the tapping or DH!! grin

Izabella Wed 15-Feb-17 15:39:29

Yes the kettle is on and the pot warming so pull up a chair kl. Even better now I can see clearly.

So much has gone on the past few days. Some good things, some not so good. Anyway best wishes to all no matter what the situation. Loved the card!!!!

Still plastered!! No pain now at all and managing extremely well. If only I could drive.
However a mere blip in the grand scheme of things.

soop I hope you sorted the colours out. I really envy your talent ( in a nice way.). I ALSO HAVE A MARVELLOUS MENTAL PICTURE of Georgie in the pink pram.

You would think now that I can see clear,y that I would notice the caps lock. Apparently not and apologies for "shouting".

So tea now made, brewed and ready for pouring. Cup or mug?

NanaandGrampy Wed 15-Feb-17 15:42:05

There is cake !! Benefit of having a q 10 yr old Grandaughter.

Sadly, Nana only had 8 inch tins and we didn't check the recipe and it was a 7 inch mixture so it's a little on the thin side. But rest assured Grampy ( our tester) said it was the best cake EVER!

He's biased !

I was lucky as a child soop my mum felt have 4 kids have 8! So not sleepovers but our friends were always welcome and we carried that on with our girls. I can't tell you the number of times Grampy would get up at 7am and find half a dozen girlies in our kitchen making breakfast !! He never complained ;-)

Tizliz Wed 15-Feb-17 16:50:18

Been a beautiful day here - weather wise. Dogs had a paddle in the stream during their walk - don't tell them it will be frozen again next week!

Managed to do a sort on a spreadsheet that would not sort back to what it was. Thought I could do something clever and I couldn't :-( Only another 30 lines to sort out manually - can wait until I am next in the office, too much strain on the eyes.

soop Wed 15-Feb-17 17:00:08

kitty The very thought of your husband staring at the wall and contemplating/remarking on what might be going on the other side, makes me hoot.

Izabella If you should ever need a cataract removing...you will be equally amazed by the quality of colours and shapes...it's like a wee miracle has occurred. Keep up the good work.

NanaandGrampy My goodness, isn't your granddaughter looking well pleased with her cake. Never mind that the size of the baking tin was a tad small. The quality will be first class. Does it contain jam and cream? Will there be some going spare? hmm

Jud Try to get a photo of Georgie in her buggy. That's such a sensible idea.

soop Wed 15-Feb-17 17:03:34

Tizliz If you feel like swapping the spreadsheet with my latest pet portrait (that is almost but no quite reducing me to tears) I'm game. Van Gough cut his ear off when frustrated. I won't go that far...however...

soop Wed 15-Feb-17 17:06:40

My friend has phoned to say..."I didn't expect you to do all the ironing"..."I meant you to put the second load into the dryer and leave it for me to do the rest". Now she tell me! wink

soop Wed 15-Feb-17 17:09:14

The weather has been very different from yesterday's wall to wall sunshine. It's much milder. It's also wet and windy. Rory has barely opened his eyes since he took to his special blanket, in my best chair, several hours ago.

MawBroon Wed 15-Feb-17 17:10:18

Would I be right in thinking N&G's DGD looks very like Nana? Or is it just the lovely smile? smile

Lona Wed 15-Feb-17 17:16:00

Love that card Maw and NandG that cake looks good enough to eat! Any leftovers will be guzzled gratefully received here!
wot he's a miserable old git thing, you deserve better sunshine
I'm smiling today as my little dgd has requested that I collect her early from after school club on Friday, as she wants to come and play, have dinner and sleepover! smilesmile

wot Wed 15-Feb-17 17:31:13

Thanks, Lona!

soop Wed 15-Feb-17 17:48:18

Maw She does have Nana's smile.

Lona Enjoy precious time with your granddaughter.

hmm I should have typed - drier and not dryer. a senior blip. Does it matter in the greater scheme of things?

Time to log off. Daylight fading into dusk. Sometime soon we'll be enjoying longer days and shorter nights.

Thank you for your company. wot an extra (hug) for you. x smile moon

grannyqueenie Wed 15-Feb-17 17:54:40

Popped in yesterday between bouts of frustration with visiting troubled teenage granddaughter and her too long suffering mum and rather beleaguered younger sister, only to find the kitchen had moved. Taken me this long to get back to find it so haven't really much of a clue as to who's doing what!! It's amazing how quickly things move on in a busy kitchen. There's also another grand dog in residence, George who is a rather determined character clearly a family trait
Sorry to hear about house sale disappointments, poorly people/pets/ unnecessary car journeys and other general -- buggerations-- bothersome stuff going on for various kitcheners.
Ann that puppy looks very cuddlesome!

Charleygirl Wed 15-Feb-17 18:35:15

Grannyqueenie what a gorgeous young fellow George is. OMG I am going to have a houseful when I pick them all up for extra cuddles and love. "ann's" grand puppy also joins my long list with Grace, Sam and Georgie at the top. They are all absolutely gorgeous.

Tara has reverted back to her old ways, out early and home late. Where does that little beggar go? Are any of you lot feeding her because although it is a kind thought she is on a prescription menu.

Jud I do hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel if Georgie is getting pins and needles.

soop I agree, a bit late in the day to tell you that!

wot I would give serious thought to *MawBroon's card and maybe do an exchange also. At the very least he needs re-training.

N&G I may well also be coming for a sleepover as I too am rather partial to salmon and steak.

The electrician spent the entire day here beavering away and dropped a bombshell. He noticed and pointed out to me the elderly wiring- the house was built in 1988. It does not need re-wiring today but it would make sense and it would save me money in the long run if the work was done now while we have the plasterer to make good etc. He will let me know the cost tomorrow. I will be sitting down with a cup of coffee to hand. It never rains but it pours. I have a price in my mind, it would be interesting if they match. His price probably doubles mine.

grannyqueenie Wed 15-Feb-17 19:29:46

Coffee? * charley* I think you may need something a little stronger!!!

MawBroon Wed 15-Feb-17 19:57:44

Well Grace is very relieved that she has still made your list Charleygirl [whew emoticon] with all these babes around.
It is tempting to be swayed by a pretty face and a firm young body (down girl!) but oldies are good girls too.

annsixty Wed 15-Feb-17 20:55:09

Three letters today. Two from building society with notification of reduced rates on ISA's. One from United Utilities saying water charge has increased.
Drs appt this pm when I have three potential skin cancers identified, two on my nose one on my temple. I am to see dermatologist on March 2nd. Not the best day ever.

MawBroon Wed 15-Feb-17 21:02:01

flowerswinewine
Oh annsixty not the greatest. Big hugs - all will be wellxx

kittylester Wed 15-Feb-17 21:19:03

Flipping heck Ann, as if you don't have enough to contend with. sad

I think that's what is called 'in for a penny, in for a pound', Charley.

Please come and do my ironing soop, I have so much bedding to do after the monumental sickness.

N&G your young lady sounds just like our eldest DGD - knows what she likes and let's you know.grin
