How are things in practice now that Monday 19 July 2021 has arrived?

I was going into the supermarket yesterday and an awld biddy with a mask under her chin cackled at me with my mask on properly , she sneered … are you afraid of gettin sick ? I muttered .. put your mask over your nose , felt a tug on my shirt and a furious DD was pulling me away !
Must say most others were wearing masks properly

Even on Saturday I found that a lot less people were wearing masks, haven't been anywhere since then. On Saturday I noticed they were taking up the one way system stickers off the floor at the shopping centre and, I expect, in the shops, which doesn't bother me as few people followed them anyway.

Our masks will be staying on in public places for the foreseeable future and we'll continue to stay away from crowded places. Not a problem for either of us.

Are we not in lock down? We are except we are moving on Thursday so there will be more bodies than usual. We will continue to take precautions not from fear but as responsible adults.

Tuesday now,, people I see , mostly wearing masks

my interpretation of this... well this hot weather is keeping quite a few of us indoors..

and the pinging! well,, come on,, am I the only one that can see what Boris is doing? he , ie the Government, isn`t locking us down. the pinging is doing that for him, and that is what he is after,, not me Guv! all down to you lot now!

Went to Aldi yesterday only one shopper not wearing a mask, when we were at the checkout l noticed he looked round and appeared to be embarrassed that he was the only shopper maskless, l don't think he expected to be in the minority, there was a good mix of ages too not just us oldies

Aepgirl Tue 20-Jul-21 11:26:32

Most people I have seen in shops etc are still wearing masks.

Ellianne Tue 20-Jul-21 11:30:51

Waitrose today and I only saw one person without a mask.
The sanitizing points have been cut back to just the one by the entrance. I never use a trolley, I gun the shopping and put it in my own bag.

Ellianne is that the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth? I am hoping to go on a trip next month. It looks Lovely smile

I caught the bus and must have been day dreaming as I didn’t seen it coming! I got on the bus with my mask in my hand and the glares from the other passengers soon alerted me to my mistake! I actually felt a sense of relief that the rules were being taken seriously and everyone had a mask on.

Diane318 Tue 20-Jul-21 11:53:13

19th may have been Freedom Day for some. Unfortunately, I got "pinged" on that day, so no freedom for me!

Kamiso Tue 20-Jul-21 11:53:21

Drat! See it coming!!

Masks at the gym again today, except for one couple-but they were busy kissing -a mask would not have helped.
Masks at Sainsburys-many schools are out now and I felt sorry for the mums and dads suddenly faced with keeping track of children whilst wearing a mask.

I’m having more problems with the sun than the virus at the moment. I reached home after my morning walk feeling distinctly off in that ‘touch of heat stroke’ way. The same thing happened on a very warm afternoon in mid June. I used to love the sun, b****r old age!

Gabrielle56 Tue 20-Jul-21 12:03:55

Yesterday was not very different really. Still masks in Morrisons gel etc being used by most. Everyone still respecting personal space as it should be anyway. But as usual there's always one...... Someone almost leapt onDH back when he nipped to Aldi for beer. It was an old bloke apparently and DH asked him if he wanted a piggy back! Bloke duly apologised (coward, DH ex cop so has "the look"!) Some folks are just plain rude, pandemic or not, I'll still have my say if anyone is rude enough to be in my personal space, B.O. halitosis, that odour of "I've not washed my clothes in soooo long" that actually clings if too close yuk! I'd welcome social distancing as the norm!

Had to go to a Mall yesterday and most people were wearing masks and sticking to the one way systems.

I overheard a group of three ladies without masks saying "well we're not doing anything wrong are we?" They were looking round at all the mask wearers and they did look as if they felt uncomfortable not having theirs

We had kept going to our local pub when it was open and as we were leaving last week the manageress asked it we were looking forward to Monday. We didn't realise what she meant at first so she said 'you will be able to go to the bar and you needn't book a table'.
I told her that means that we are less likely to go. She looked a bit shocked!

Daisend1 Tue 20-Jul-21 12:23:51

Galaxy
Not surprising if customers are taking notice of the email sent out by Tesco asking customers to continue wearing a mask when in store..
I have no problem with this. To each his own.

Good thread this and it will be interesting to see how things evolve over the next few weeks. The Tesco delivery man didn’t wear a mask on Sunday. The girl who works at the local veggie shop that delivers to us said they are keeping the screen but will no longer wear masks in the shop as it gets so hot. I was surprised at that as it’s a very busy shop in a seaside resort so people from all over the country will be shopping there. I was getting so close to plucking up the courage to go into the shop as well: having spoken to her for so long on the phone I really wanted to say hello. In recent weeks people have been much better at moving away from us when we’re out walking. I just hope that mask wearing and social distancing has now become a way of life for many. As it is our way of life isn’t going to change at all especially when it comes to having someone inside the house, which is still the most likely way to catch the virus.

I was too hot to really bother yesterday although at my express Tesco's when I nipped in to get some salad stuff most had masks on, of course I had mine on and will continue to wear one for quite some time.
Was a bit p+++ed off in there as two young mothers had their baby buggies in there and despite politely asking twice can I get past them they carried on talking and looked at me as if I shouldn't be there. Luckily the security man told them they were blocking the shoppers so they had to move. Must be the heat people are getting moody and aggressive.

I live on the edge of Oxford, which is a Covid black spot. I still wear a mask, and the main stores still say we should.

fuseta Tue 20-Jul-21 12:54:32

I made a return journey yesterday from Banbury to Surrey and everyone wore masks on the 4 trains that I travelled on. They were two different train companies.

runnerbean Tue 20-Jul-21 12:57:36

We continue with precautions as before and exercising greater vigilance since we're in an area of lower vaccine take up and large numbers unmasked. Not using public transport and attending outdoor Masses only.

DaisyL Tue 20-Jul-21 13:15:32

Just back from Waitrose (where I didn't wear a mask) and there were quite a few other brave souls also quite a few of the staff weren't wearing masks. I have also deleted the NHS Covid 19 app - apparently they are working on a system whereby if you are about to be pinged with the app it can check if you have been double vaccinated. As far as I know that is going to be the case on 16th August.

Mollygo Tue 20-Jul-21 13:19:58

I expect we’ll hear more about people’s bravery in the days to come.
