Brexit is fast becoming a disaster
(686 Posts)HMRC have published some figures to show that food and drink exports fell by 2bn in the first 3 months since Brexit.
Dairy was down a massive 90%? and there were losses across the board.
The figures show that rather it being a teething issue as the Tories would have us believe it is in fact structural and likely to continue unless there is some sort of move towards say the SM.
We really are led by donkeys.

Just done a quick online search, approximately 36% of Germans have passports and just under 50% of French. Haven’t got time to check the rest as I am going out.

Not a big deal for some- especially if they are regular visitors, but will certainly put off many casual visitors and holiday makers- those who come for a long week-end in London or many of our fabulous towns, or visit for a longer holiday.

We have often befriended folks from EU Countries wherever we have travelled outside of the EU, they had passports.
Yes, I am. Especially in rural areas, the vast majority do not have a passport. Why should they? The whole of Europe, including the UK until today- could be visited without.
So unless they want to go to USA or NZ, or very far destinations- then there was no need. Still no need for EU and other parts of Europe- so why should they spend all that money???

Yes my grandchildren will need passports to go to the UK now. They have always travelled on Spanish identity cards. Not a big deal, but not sure what the UK gains by it?

The point being, Malone is complaining about £7 Visa- when now Europeans will have to spend more than 10x that much- which they did not have to before today, and before Brexit. Passports were only required for those who wanted to go beyond Europe. Hardly 'insular' to be happy to travel across a whole, and very varied, with lots of cultures, languages, foods, landscapes, geography, etc, etc, etc.
'Insular' is a term I'd rather use for Brexiters who wanted to choose to isolate us all from our neighbours and partners- and then bitterly complain about the consequences. As Malone ridiculous rant above.

U.K. citizens have always needed a passport to travel to EU Countries and elsewhere in the world.
(My Danish and Spanish relatives have had passports since birth, they like to travel and are not so insular that they never leave the EU borders)

As from today (01/10/21) they will have to have a passport, like everyone else.
So UK people complaina bout having to pay £7 for a Visa that will last for multiple visits. But EU people wanting to come to UK will have to spend about 10X that much and more, for biometric passports! But continue to use their ID cards within EU and Schengen!
